It’s important that a club delivers a consistent retail experience across all channels. Fans
interact with their club in many ways and although fans rank as one of the most loyal customer
types, they do have expectations, expectations set by today’s High Street and online retail

channels, or the customer service is not up-to-scratch then Amazon and eBay, platforms
familiar to the consumer and renowned for deals, steal the sale.

Disjointed information can cause confusion which inevitably delays, or at worst impedes, a
successful transaction. We are the ‘now’ generation - we get the information we need about
anything at any time, news, movies, facts, all beamed and streamed to a plethora of devices
that we carry and interact with on a daily basis. We are also the ‘impatient’ generation - when
we decide to buy, what we want should be easily found, checkout should be quick and simple
with clear and consistent messages, and we expect to receive delivery on time and as
advertised. Mistakes will not be tolerated.

The website is a connection to the club's fans and when developed correctly a club can reach
its fans 24/7. There is no doubt that when it comes to increasing club revenue and fan
engagement, huge emphasis should be put into getting the club's website right. However,
focusing entirely on the website, it’s easy to overlook fundamental behind-the-scenes
functions that are required to manage demand and provide the ever so important customer
service that is expected, and at the end of the day, it is customer service that builds brands.

DELIVERING CONTINUITY IS INCREASINGLY MORE IMPORTANT

It’s a modern misconception that a website is far more important than the clubs retail system.
The thinking is that a website will bring in sales revenue whereas any till system will allow me
to sell my stock at the club. Historically this is probably true, but today having the correct
retail infrastructure across the entire club to cope with demand and deliver continuity is
increasingly more important if a website is to reach its full potential.

At the heart of the retail platform is the inventory - an accurate inventory is fundamental to

Mental Health Charity 'Mind' Font Into TRIMS-SRS."

Working in conjunction with Lee Hyde, director of retail at Ipswich Town Football Club, Touchretail reacted
quickly to the clubs request with an appropriate solution drawn up in a matter of days. Stu Francis, CEO of
Touchretail comments: “Custom shirt orders processed through any sales channel, in ITFC’s case this is
through Magento 2 or their Touchretail EPOS units, will automatically substitute the first letter of the
player name with the equivalent EFL Mind font character, thus ensuring accurate inventory management is
maintained throughout the retail operation. ‘Min/Max’ reorder levels, stock alerts and detailed reporting
will help the club maintain the right level of stock to meet customer demand.”

Lee Hyde, director of retail at Ipswich Town FC comments: “I approached Touchretail a little apprehensive,
thinking “I doubt this can be done”, but after a very quick discussion Stu reassured me that the TRIMS
system could handle the testing requirements we had. This was the reassurance I needed in order to be
able to commit to stocking the new Mind ‘Squiggle’ font style for fans to purchase on their shirts. At retail
level we have the option to replicate the official player shirts, or offer a simpler plain version without the
Mind ‘Squiggle’ font. At the end of the day the fans want what the players have on their shirts. However,
from a stock control perspective this could have caused huge issues for us. The EFL have launched letter
sets in both plain and Mind ‘Squiggle’ across two sizes and six colourways, totalling twenty-four letter
sets! Fortunately due to the work Stu and his team have carried out, I can now confidently offer this option
to our fans when many clubs are choosing not to. At the click of a button, I’ll be able to see stock holdings
across all letter sets, and re-stock requirements. To be able to view this with no manual adjustments or
manipulation is unbelievable. This alone justifies our choice to partner with an ePOS software brand as
forward thinking as Touchretail. I think many clubs will be interested in taking a look at just how we
manage this so simply!”
