WEWEN 2017-2018 President Carol Brace

LETTER
FROM THE
PRESIDENT

What a crazy ride ABWA WEWEN has had since we began our second year. Our community has
rallied to assure no matter what that we are there for one and another. We have so many talented and
wonderful people in our group and I am honored and humbled to serve and work side by side with
each and every one of you!
We are all Women of the Year or Excellence which brings me to the focus of my letter. It’s that time of
year when we provide our ABWA judges our WEWEN candidates who are eligible for Women of the
Year and/or Women of Excellence awards. Did you know that if you attend a National or Regional
Conference that you have fulfilled one of the qualifiers? Also, did you know that our Regional
Conference this year will be held in Sugarland, March 22nd-24th I want to challenge all of you to
attend the wonderful opportunity. Our presenter, LaVeer Jovel, will educate us on “Mastering the Art
of Negotiations”. She delivers the essence of negotiating in one power-packed day. From what is
really happening when two parties come together to how to look out for your interests – from what to
say and how to say it to what is better left unspoken – this seminar delivers. (.6 CEUs)
Also, I am starting something new in our newsletter SHOUT OUT!!! If any of our members receives an
award. Please, send it to me. I can only squeeze so much into my section but, we could start a new
section. So this time, I want to congratulate Dr. Michelle Becker, “Shots for Holly”, she was named Cy
Fair Chamber’s Ambassador this quarter and is a finalist for Ambassador of the Year.
Remember Be Bold, Be Brave and Be You.

NEW YEAR NEW YOU

WRITTEN BY LINDSEY MEADOWS

Wow, Houston has seen some crazy weather in the last six months. A tremendous flood, and now
snow two different times. And they say the cold weather is here to stay. Winter is such an unusual

season for us as Houstonians. With so many still recovering from Harvey, Christmas, and New
Year's has passed us by. What a perfect time for us to sit back evaluate and create new goals for
this year. Our new theme in ABWA is Be Bold, Be Brave, Be You. What a great theme to kick start a

whole new year to becoming a more authentic you.
How are you going to be bold, be brave, and be you this year. Are you finally going to go back to

school to get that degree you always wanted? Are you going to go for a promotion, or open a
business? How can we as ABWA sisters in WEWEN help you to reach your goals this year? We
have excellent mentoring, education, and scholarship opportunities for our members to put to good
use to help you reach those goals in 2018. Make sure to let us know how we can help and share

your goals with us.
