BEAUTILLION 2022 | Empowered to Make a Change. Destined for Greatness.

Dear 2022 Beautillion Participants and Attendees:
Best Wishes from Senatorial District 23! It is once again that time … Beautillion time, a time when our
finest young gentlemen are showcased and formally presented at an event that has ushered in the maturation
of Dallas' best and brightest.
Tonight, we commemorate the 45th Annual Scholarship Beautillion appropriately themed "Empowered to
Make Change, Destined for Greatness" which allows the entire community to embrace our sons and
collectively acknowledge their accomplishments, triumphs and future aspirations.
My family and I are direct benefactors of the opportunities afforded by Jack and Jill of America,
Incorporated. Four of my sons have benefited from the life experience of serving as Beaux. Jack and Jill
has indeed contributed not only to their academic growth and social development but has also helped to
promote their sense of ethnic identity, pride and culture.
In addition, the Beautillion nurtures family values and provides participants with unique mentoring,
character building, and social opportunities. I recognize the necessity of "growing our own" leaders and
indeed, gentlemen. As a State Senator, I can validate the impact and significance of the role Jack and Jill
plays in our community.
Today, I proudly offer my congratulations to the 20 Beaux for the journeys, thus far, these young men have
traveled respectively, as well as my continued prayer that Our God sustain and guide them throughout their
lives.
Sincerely,

Royce West

Hosted by

Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill of America

It is a personal and professional privilege to bring salutations to the Dallas Chapter of
Jack and Jill of America. The recent announcement of the 45th Annual Scholarship
Beautillion is an encouraging sign that this community still finds value in fitting young
men for service and success.

This year's theme is "Empowered to Make a Change, Destined for Greatness", which is
well placed, but it comes with many caveats and counsel. In Maya Angelou's "Yet to Be
United States," change won't come easy or without sacrifice.

Dr. Corne! West is, a philosopher, political activist, social critic, actor, and public
intellectual and said it much better than I ever could.

"You have to have a habitual vision of greatness ... you have to believe in fact that you
will refuse to settle for mediocrity. You won't confuse your financial security with your
personal integrity, you won't confuse your success with your greatness or your
prosperity with your magnanimity ... believe in fact that living is connected to giving."

All 20 of these young men have it in their capacity to be great by rendering service to
their neighbors and community. I look forward to the future date when the seeds
planted by Jack an9)i J.L,-Qallas County, in 2022 sprout and blossom.

JUDGE KIM COOKS 15

255TH DISTRICT COURT
DALLAS COUNTY, TEXAS

February 14, 2022

Greetings 2022 Beautillion Attendees:

It is with great pleasure that I personally extend my Congratulations to the Dallas
Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. on their 45th Annual Scholarship
Beautillion.

This year’s Beautillion theme is “Empowered to Make a Change. Destined for
Greatness.” As a parent, we provide our boys with the foundation they need to
become the great men that they were destined to be. We empower our African
American young men to blaze trails and be the change that they want to see. They
understand greatness takes confidence and characteristics that are pleasing to God
and not to man. When you know who you are, you can remain “Unbought and
Unbossed” as you climb the ladder to greatness. Always put God first and allow
him to order your steps.

Jack and Jill has long been a Mother’s Organization that has helped shape and
mold young African Americans by exposing them to cultural, social, civic,
political, and community service activities that prepare them to be a well-rounded,
successful leaders in life.

This Beautillion is extremely special to me as a proud member of the Dallas
Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. It is bittersweet as my son and I will be
participating in this Beautillion and graduating out of the chapter. I have believed
in this organization for the past 16 years because I too have a passion for uplifting
the lives of young African Americans. I salute and pray for each and every one of
the Beaus and Belles as they become our future leaders.

Love and Blessings,

Kim Cooks

March 5, 2022
To Participants and Friends of the Jack and Jill Beautillion:
On behalf of my colleagues in the State of Texas Judiciary and all of the wonderful people
employed by Dallas County, I would like to extend a special welcome to family and friends for
this year’s 45th Annual Scholarship Beautillion. The Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill of America,
Inc., to which I am a proud member, should be applauded for their continued efforts in the most
challenging of times, to acknowledge the meaningful and positive contributions of our African
American youth despite the dire statistics they face and those currently depicted in the media.
This year’s theme, “Empowered to Make a Change Destined for Greatness” is only fitting for
this group of young men, presented with unprecedented challenges, enduring modified sports
schedules, navigating college admissions, and decisions all while in the midst of a worldwide
pandemic. Their resilience and determination to raise the bar and lead by example is
commendable.
Congratulations to the members of the Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. for
honoring the commitments of these dynamic young men and for their hard work and efforts in
putting together a fabulous socially responsible event. I look forward to seeing the fruits of labor
of these young men for years to come and whom I am certain are destined to become future
leaders not only here in Dallas-Ft. Worth but far beyond.
Best wishes again for a successful event.
Sincerely,

Beautillion Overview

We greatly appreciate the support of the Dallas community as we honor the accomplishments
and embrace the future success of the best and brightest young men in our community as they
complete their senior year of high school.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a national not-for-profit membership organization of mothers
dedicated to nurturing future leaders by supporting children through leadership development,
volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty. The Dallas Chapter of this national
organization carries this mission forward to make a difference in the lives of Dallas children.
We are inspired and guided by our national theme “The Power To Make A Difference For All
Children On Mission On Purpose”.

The Jack and Jill Beautillion and Community Benefit was formed in 1977 with the purpose of
promoting high self-esteem and standards, strong morals and values, continuous education,
refined social skills, respect, service and friendship among young men in their senior year of
high school. Through this experience, our goal is for each participant to improve leadership
skills in the areas of problem-solving and critical thinking, meet community and business
leaders and understand their success strategies, learn financial management, and gain an
understanding of social issues that impact their future and build life-long friendships with other
outstanding young men.

During the process, the young men and women participate in a Leadership Development
Conference. The series of workshops and activities expose the participants to top leaders in
their field in the city of Dallas.

The Beautillion also supports participants by providing an opportunity to receive awards for
college expenses. Additionally, proceeds benefit deserving Dallas non-profit organizations and
the Jack and Jill of America Foundation.

We are honored to have celebrated the Beautillion in the Dallas community for 44 years and
look forward to more years of celebration.

Chapter History

the beginning

The history of the Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill is special and unique in that the charter members of the
Chapter joined forces ten years earlier to form The Child Study Club before it became an affiliate of Jack
and Jill of America, Inc., in 1953. Mrs. Blanche Davis conceived and initiated the idea of The Child Study
Club with twelve members, and Mrs. Davis served as the charter president. Originally the club consisted
of mothers of pre-school children who aimed through study to learn more about their children and the role
parents play in the development of the whole child. Often fathers and mothers attended meetings together
to hear expert consultants when the discussion was vital to both of them. Fathers, mothers, and children
joined for Family Christmas parties, Family Easter Egg rolls and picnics.

Charter Members

Helen Beckett, Wynona Combs, Blanche Davis, Ella Lois Hudson, Ollie Lee Mason, Hazel Partee, Winifred
Rhodes, Anita Smith, Mildred Thomas, Mary Sue Bush, Wilene Dade, Sandye Gee, Nadine Long, Gussie
Montgomery, D’artis Purity, Dorothy Rhone, Nadine Stanfield, and Willie Faye Wilson.

GROWTH

The children were grouped by ages, and various age groups began to have diverse interests. The club’s
membership grew, and the name changed to The Crib to College Club. In 1952, one of the members, Mrs.
Nadine Stanfield, informed the members of the similarity of aims, ideals and activities of the club with those
of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. The Crib to College Club applied for membership and received its’ charter
October 1953. Dr. Alberta B. Turner, the fourth National President, installed eighteen charter members into
the Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., with Mrs. Winfred Rhodes serving as charter president.
The horizon of the former Crib to College
Club widened, and the Dallas Chapter of
Jack and Jill of America, Inc. stepped into
this new skyline to join hands with mothers
throughout the United States in supporting
the aims and objectives of Jack and Jill of
America, Inc. In January 1980, the Chapter
organized an Associates section, and Mrs.
Barbara James served as chairperson
with a roster of ten. The Dallas Associates
presently have a membership of more than
78 ladies, and Ms. Oscar Faye Williams
serves as chair.

Currently, the Dallas Chapter includes a membership of 91 moms and over 150 children participating in six
age groups with Audra Chavis leading the organization.

Beau Olayinka Virden Lamikanra

Beau Olayinka (Yinka) Virden Lamikanra is the son of Drs. Olusola and Anna E. Lamikanra. He is the paternal grandson
of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.C.A. and Elizabeth Lamikanra (Osun State, Nigeria) and the maternal grandson of Drs. Virden
(late) and Adeline L. Evans, Tallahassee, Florida. Yinka has three older siblings: Dr. Yemi Lamikanra-Ijamikinwa, Ms.
Adebola Lamikanra, Esquire, and Mr. Femi Lamikanra.

Yinka is a senior at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, where he is team captain of varsity rugby. He was a
member of the 2021 Sebastian’s Cup State Championship. This feat earned him a championship ring. He is a member
of Minorities in Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANNRS) and the National Society of Black Engineers,

Jr., where he has served twice as the president. Yinka enjoys scientific
research and has been a trainee with DLC STEM-Prep. He has successfully
completed research at University of Washington, Seattle, Thomas Jefferson
University, and the University of Pennsylvania. This summer he will go to
the University of Oregon to work with his medical mentor, Dr. Jonathan
Brody.

During his years in school, he has been part of the Multicultural Club,
Mandarin Club, Musicians Union Club, and the Soccer Club. He enjoys
community service opportunities and has prepared breakfast for Manna for
Others, delivered lunches with Meals on Wheels, and served as a recreation
aide for the Notre Dame School of Dallas. Last year, Yinka participated in
the Waco Homeless Immersion Program. In his earlier school years, Yinka
played freshman football with Jesuit Dallas and several other community
football teams, as well.

He has participated with some national rugby programs and was on the
EIRA western team for summer 2021. Yinka will play with the rugby league
Gorilla Rugby this spring in the Tropical Sevens to be held in Tampa,
Florida. Considered by his family and teachers as a global thinker, Yinka
has visited many international destinations. When asked about talking in class about visiting historical landmarks he says at
some point it seems like I am bragging. So, he often prefers to not explain. On his recent trip to Kenya, he spent time at
the Maasai Mara, where he observed the natural habitats of the big five; visited the giraffe and elephant orphanages; had
breakfast with the hippos and journeyed to Ft. Mombasa. Yinka states that learning about the slave trade from East Africa
was most eye-opening.

Yinka attended Elementary School No. 2 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China for a semester. This opportunity to learn
about the culture and people of China left an indelible imprint on his decision to take Mandarin as a foreign language.
This experience in China and the Nigerian internship with Blazing Trails International with children with disabilities
helped him decide to pursue a career as a pediatrician. He firmly believes that children need medical advocates who care
that they receive the best medical advice and care. He plans on working in communities where medical care is scarce.
