The Birthday Book of Limericks

A book of limericks in celebration of John

A grand fellow is John

A grand fellow is John, it’s true
More modest than the sky is blue

So many things he handles
Like SIXTY birthday candles
Stop the alarms — smoke will accrue!

q 46 q

Leaving for Luxembourg

Leaving for Luxembourg wasn’t so great
Stressed and in treatment, two dogs in their crates

The flight would be long
I felt less than strong

In fact, I could barely see straight

But John had a major surprise up his sleeve
He’d secretly traded my cattle-car seat
For one in first class!
I almost collapsed
With the wonderfulness of that treat

q 47 q

Fancy coffee to start the day

Fancy coffee to start the day
To wake up, this is the best way

’Course sugar on top
For flavor and pop
I’d love one, each morning I’ll say

q 48 q

My good friend John

My good friend John is turning sixty
He’s had Irish wolfhounds a plenty

His auburn hair has turned gray
His golf swing is still astray

And his true loves are Sherri and his LTD

q 49 q

There once was a father named John

There once was a father named John
To Sherri he’d not stay anon,
A tattoo of a dog,
A cool dude on a hog,

To his smile and laugh all are drawn

q 50 q

Christmas with John is all glitter and glee

Christmas with John is all glitter and glee
Decorating for days: you can’t see the huge tree

But he leaves time to shop
Twelve hours, tops

And yes, that would be Christmas eve

q 51 q

There was a great man

There was a great man who made a great wish
He asked for some pets, perhaps some fun fish

He left it to god
Prayed “don’t be a cod”
Turned out to be dogs, who were so Irish

q 52 q

Therre once was a man from Sterling

There once was a man from Sterling
Whose coffee you could always smell brewing

He’s tried every flavor
and really likes to savor
his Nespresso pods early in the morning

q 53 q

An easy and affable guy

An easy and affable guy
Who knew that he was a spy?

Perhaps not exactly
We´ll just call it “Langley”
And forget all the wheres and the why

q 54 q

Some may think it’s just a habit

Some may think it’s just a habit
Which is true if you’re not an addict
But things are revealed as time goes by
And you’re 60 now so we won’t lie

Shopaholism does you afflict

q 55 q

There once was a group in Moscow

There once was a group in Moscow
Whose friendship remains even now

We wish John the BEST
For his 60 Fest

As he carries on with a WOW!!

q 56 q

q 57 q

There was a young spook named John

There was a young spook named John
Who tried to recruit Liaison
He finagled and lied
Wore disguises to hide

He was here one day and then gone

q 58 q

There once was a man named Pereira I

There once was a man named Pereira
Who went to a place called Guatemala(era)

He said with a grin
as he rubbed his stubbly chin
“And here I thought it was Costa Rica(era)”

q 59 q

There once was a man named Pereira II

There once was a man named Pereira
Who tangled with the big Russian bear-a

The KGB tried to follow
but their attempts were all hollow
JP disappeared who knows where-a

q 60 q

There once was a man named Pereira III

There once was a man named Pereira
Who’s car was so cool, folks would stare-ah

With space-age gear
He drove with no fear
And said “Drag Race? I dare ya !”

q 61 q

Forget the Indy and Formula One

Forget the Indy and Formula One
It’s the race to Potomac that is the most fun

We will have to see
Who is first for tea
But we’ll never agree on who actually won

q 62 q

Our son and our brother turned sixty

Our son and our brother turned sixty
But he did it abroad, which was risky

For there he received
This very long read
Though it ought to go well with a whiskey
