PATIENT LIAISON GROUP

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR OUR PATIENTS

During this difficult time, we have introduced special measures to control the risk of infection between patients and
also members of staff, whilst continuing to maintain a high standard of service to all our patients.
We are therefore asking everyone to adhere to the latest medical advice provided by NHS England and the Depart-
ment of Health relating to the outbreak of the Corona Virus (Covid 19) affecting the UK and limit their attendance at
the Surgery as much as possible.

Further advice and information concerning the virus can be found at: www.nhs.uk and gov.uk

As a result, all appointments will initially be via a telephone or video consultation with a clinician who will then make
a clinical judgement on whether a “face to face” consultation is necessary.

It is important that we limit attendance at the surgery to avoid the risk of cross contamination, especially to those pa-
tients with underlying health conditions. This practice has now been introduced in all surgeries across England.

Like any other organisation, we have members of our own team who have underlying health conditions, so we are

taking appropriate precautions to safeguard their health and welfare. This is

naturally having an effect on the Practice, so we would like to thank you for Minster Library
your patience and understanding during this very difficult time for all of us

and reassure you of our commitment to all our patients. Opening Times

On behalf of: Monday 13:00 to 17:00
The Practice Partners, Minster Surgery Tuesday 09:30 to 13:30
Wednesday Closed
MINSTER SHOW CANCELLED Thursday 12:00 to 17:00
Friday 10:00 to 16:00
Minster Show committee have taken the very difficult decision to cancel Saturday 09:30 to 13:30
this year's Show in the light of the uncertainty that we are currently facing.
This decision has been taken early so you do not see your endeavours go
to waste if we had to cancel later in the year. It is also taken with an
acknowledgment of the vulnerability of several key members, either due
to advanced maturity or employment situations, and the need to keep
everyone as safe as possible at this difficult time.
We were concerned that if we had to organise the finer detail with a
limited amount of time it would not be a Show that the whole Village
would be proud of. Therefore, we will honour any bookings and monies
transacted to date, by refunding where necessary and automatically carry
forward any stall / entertainment bookings to next year.
Thank you, as a community, for your full understanding of our decision.
We want you to have the best Show possible. Stay safe and please contact
us via our website if you have any questions. We are also on Facebook,
and many of you may see Karen - from a safe distance.

8 Minster Matters April 2020

Minster Parish Council believe that Minster Matters is a
valuable asset in our parish; it is a great source of
information and a good example of how important

Peter Gill community is to those of us who live here.
Advertising is needed to pay for this community magazine
and the impact of the Coronavirus means that this funding
is going to reduce drastically in the coming weeks. Not only

that but there will be no events to publicise.
So Minster Parish Council will fund the next issue of
Minster Matters to ensure vital information will be
available to everyone, especially those who do not use

social media.

This is where you come in!

Please help us to reach out to everyone in these exceptional
times.

Write something for publication!
How are you coping with self-isolation? Share your ideas to

help others.
Tell us what has made you smile? Perhaps your children

would like to contribute?
How about some Spring photos?
Any amusing or strange stories about life in Minster?
Let’s make people feel less isolated and support each other

and maybe raise a smile!
Please send any items for publication to the editorial team.

Details are inside the front cover of this magazine.

Douglas, Christine, Violet and Mary

(known as Betty).

John met his first wife Joan, whilst dancing at Dreamland, whom he married

in 1950. They emigrated to New Zealand in 1953 and went on to have 2

children Leslie and Laurie. Joan passed away in 2007.

In 2010 John met and married Christine.

John broke his hip on Valentine’s Day and was admitted to hospital, sadly

he passed away whilst still in hospital on 26th February, his funeral, a very

simple cremation service, at the Canterbury Memorial Gardens and

Crematorium in Christchurch, was held on 3rd March.
Editor’s note: I ‘met’ John online, I think around 2006, whilst publishing
Yvonne Chapman’s poems in Minster Matters, as Yvonne already had
contact with him through her regular trips to New Zealand.
John and I continued to correspond on a regular basis right up until his
accident.
My thoughts and prayers go to Christine and his family and I intend to keep
in touch with Christine.
Are there any of our readers who remember John or any members of his
family?

Thank you…

12 Minster Matters April 2020

Hello All,
I have chosen Abbamania as the next coach trip for Minster Twinning.
It’s a West End show that will be appearing at the White Rock
Theatre in Hastings on 6 November. Come and have a ”Super
Trouper” time, rock like the “Dancing Queen” in the aisles, shake
those bones, sing the songs from the seventies and really let yourself
go. Will you find “A Man after Midnight?” Come on “Take a Chance
on Me”
Enough of the corny jokes!!
We will be leaving Minster at 1.55pm from the New Inn, followed
by the second pick up at St Mary’s church at 2pm. Departure will be
prompt, so we waste no time travelling to Hastings, where you can
shop for bric-a-brac in the Old Town which is steeped in history, or
venture to the more modern shops
There is a funicular railway to the top of the cliffs for viewing the
castle and there’s access to the caves if that takes your fancy.
Being a seaside port, there’s sure to be many eateries, including
delicious fish and chip restaurants. The coach has agreed to drop us
off at the shopping area and will pick us up to take us to the theatre.
The total cost for the coach and the show will be £40pp.
As I shall be receiving (!unwanted!) treatment in the near future, I
would ideally like to collect £10 deposit per person with the booking
and the balance will need to be paid by the end of May. Any cheques
should be made out to Mrs Carol Bubb please. Thank you in advance.
So many of us on the coach will know one another, it will make for
an exciting day.
Best wishes, Carol

ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS TREE PROJECT

I would like to thank everyone who has made squares for our village alternative Christmas tree.
Please, if you have made some, could you drop them in to Attwells, phone me for collection or hand them in to
Minster Garage.
The design and colours on the squares are fantastic (see pictures). I have also received some lovely tree
decorations. Please keep them coming.
With all the enforced social distancing and self isolation, it will give us all something to focus on.
Again, thank you all
