In 2014, the Nonprofit Center developed a strategic plan with growth benchmarks, including increasing the number of nonprofits that are members. The signficance of growing our membership is not just about numbers; we know that we are stronger together. With more members, our sector has increased opportunities for connecting and collaborating. We know that working together is not only important, it is essential.
Nonprofit Center Strategic Plan Nonprofit Center Membership
“Even if we had a massive budget with the ability to do trainings in house it wouldn’t compare to the benefit of meeting and training opportunities that naturally facilitate cross-agency collaborations. The Nonprofit Center is an innovation incubator, and our community is so fortunate to have your leadership and guidance. Thank you!”
-Stella Johnson, CEO, Hope Haven
“Many years ago I learned the power of the four most important words for a leader to know: ‘What do you think?’ The City Rescue Mission has been a longtime member of the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida because of the consistent response that we get to this powerful question. I often feel that they are our very own resource center with Rena at the helm, and I always walk away or hang up the phone with answers that are profound, honest, inspiring, educational, and current! What a gift to the nonprofit community and Northeast Florida as a whole.”
-Penny Kievet, Executive Director, The City Rescue Mission

Programming
One of the most powerful ways the Nonprofit Center works to ensure the health of the nonprofit sector is through our programming. In 2017, we offered 172 professional development workshops, networking events, and convenings to nonprofit employees, volunteers, board members, and other important organizational stakeholders. Philanthropic partners, like The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, recognize the Nonprofit Center’s dedication to high quality programming and rigorous evaluation. Programming in 2017 included: Board Governance and Fundraising with Chuck Loring, Nonprofit Works Management Conference, Fund Development Professeionals Intensive, Beaches Emerging Leaders, Eleanor Ashby Leadership Series, and Fundraising and Mangement Series.

Advocate
Using Our Voice
Advocacy is more important to the nonprofit sector than ever. Nonprofits that are involved in advocacy improve their ability to engage their boards and influence positive change in the communities they serve. However, our members tell us, “It’s hard to use a strong voice while also having your hand out for support.” That’s why the Nonprofit Center works hard to represent the nonprofit sector and provide it with a strong voice in the public arena.
