Comerford makes history at Villanova

Yorktown alum becomes career leader in points

BY MIKE SABINI
CONTRIBUTING WRITER

Katie Comerford, a 2016 Yorktown graduate, has

enjoyed a historic career at Villanova University,

which includes being the school’s all-time leader in

points.

She recorded her school-record 184th-career

point, in a 12-9 win at Navy on Feb. 22, against what

was then the No. 16 team, in the country

She tallied the historic point when she scored an

unassisted goal into an empty net with just one sec-

ond left before halftime, after being fouled by Navy

goalkeeper Abbi Young, to give Villanova a 9-5 lead

at the half.

She passed Shannon O’Neil, who had the previ-

ous record of 183 points, which had been the school

record since the 1997 season.

Comerford’s record-breaking goal was even more
