e Wolves did eventually get in step, though.
“We talked about it after the rst period, gured
out how to receive it out of the air,” said Walsh,
“and do something with it.”

e adjustment quickly paid dividends, too.
Meghan Condon battled her way up eld, got
the Wolves on their o ensive horse, and Annabel
Brennan came open on the wing. e mid elder
then got it to Faye Tobin, and she slapped it past
Marrone with 10:33 remaining in the half.

Unfortunately, Carmel answered right back.
At 9:27, Kylie Rosenquest wound up above the
crease, and de ecting o the sticks of the John
Jay defense, the ball rose above the outstretch of
Spieler for a 3-1 lead.

So, the chill only got colder, and the fourth
quarter was soon upon the Wolves. John Jay re-
fused to relent, though. Brennan teed one up from
the left of the goal, and Kate Mercer nished the
job with 5:12 remaining.

But the showstopper was still to come. It began
with a big Spieler kick save on a Kylie Rosenquest
blast with 2:40 remaining. e rebound left Con-
don busting her way up eld again and led Bren-
nan into the zone.

She then got Sophia DiFalco in range, and the
scrum actually had the ball roll through the crease.
Appearing to head for the box, the angle wasn’t
there, and Carmel was eventually able to clear.

Given all the obstacles faced this year, the take-
away was still a victory for the coach.

“ ey were always able to bring positivity, and
that’s what I strive for in this program,” Walsh
concluded.
