Community Grants Report
January 2020

Lindsborg Arts Council, Lindsborg Svensk Folkdräkt

Smoky Valley Community Enhancement Fund, $500, Awarded 11/16/2018

Project Summary: The Lindsborg Svensk Folkdräkt is a collection of Swedish Folk
costumes designed by two local artists. This grant would pay for the production of
patterns of the costumes in time for Lindsborg’s Sesquicentennial celebration.

Use of Funds: The grant monies from LAC, Smoky Valley, Nutt and McPherson
Community were applied to the Palmer printing invoice.

Impact & Results: The grant was one of several contributions that made this project
a reality. Having a community costume strengthens our living Swedish heritage
sustainability. After Tara and I unveiled the collection designs and enthusiasm grew
it truly became a community project as individuals generously gave there time and
talents bringing the project to fruition. The patterns were available to the public
two weeks prior to Hyllningsfest. During Lindsborgs 150th Sesquicentennial Svensk
Hyllningsfest 2018 there were 12 women and two men wearing the Lindsborg Svensk
Folkdräkt. Lindsborg is now one of two communities in the U.S.A. that has a community
fork costume.

Bethany College, Bethany College Lightning Detector Upgrade

Smoky Valley Enhancement Fund, $3,000, Awarded 11/15/2019

Project Summary: This project is to continue to provide safety for the numerous entities who utilize our facilities
through the use of our lightning detector. Bethany College, USD 400, and the City of Lindsborg all benefit from the
use of the lightning detector.

Use of Funds: To get a new lighting detector that is connected on the Bethany College stadium press box.

Impact & Results: The grant helped fund the new lightning detector we have installed on the Bethany College
stadium press box. This lightning detector serves Bethany College, USD400, and the City of Lindsborg, as all those
entities use the Bethany College athletic facilities in some capacity. The lightning detector sounds off when lightning
is at a close radius, therefore helping keep participants and fans safe. Without the funding, we would have had
to incur the cost of the new detector, which we were not prepared to do as the former unit needed updating
abruptly.
