Lincoln County Emergency Management, Hunter Siren Project 2019

Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, $4,583, Awarded 10/23/2019

Project Summary: To improve and update the infrastructure of the community of Hunter to allow them to make
their citizens aware of threatening storms and the back up system to maintain this essential function.

Use of Funds: Grant funds were spent on the generator to support the Siren Project

Impact & Results: I think this story is yet to come. The impact to the Hunter community will show when the storm
season comes and when fires happen. This grant was one of four grants that all had to happen or the project would
not have been completed. We will observe March 2-6, 2020 as KS Severe Weather Awareness Week (SWAW). We will
also participate in the statewide test tornado drill will be held Tuesday, March 3rd at 10 am.

Post Rock Extension District, Dining with Diabetes

Kansas Health Foundation Fund, $1,158, Awarded 10/11/2018

Project Summary: Dining with Diabetes is a series of four two
hour classes conducted by trained Kansas Extension educators/
agents and community health partners. This program helps
individuals learn strategies to manage their diabetes through
menu planning, carbohydrate counting, portion control, and label
reading. Participants have the opportunity to sample healthy
foods made utilizing concepts taught. The Dining with Diabetes
program increases knowledge about healthy foods, presents
healthy versions of familiar foods, demonstrates new cooking techniques, provides taste testing of new recipes,
provides basic information regarding diabetes and nutrition, and provides opportunities for sharing and learning
from one another and from diabetes health professionals.

Use of Funds: To purchase ingredients for sample meals, measuring cups and spoons for participants, American
Diabetes Assoc. diabetic divided plates, lamination sheets for placemats, choose Your Foods brochure, 25 water
bottles and advertisements in Lincoln County Newspapers.

Impact & Results: We had an overwhelming positive response to the Dining with Diabetes workshop and had over
30 participants sign up! With the help of partnerships through K-State Research and Extension, the Lincoln
