Northeast Illinois Council - 2016 Annual Report

Prepared.

Prepared. For Leadership. Prepared. For Leadership.

The Scouting program depends on great leaders
to train and develop our future leaders - the youth
we serve every day. The Northeast Illinois Council

Scouts who develop into strong adults who excel
in their chosen careers, their service to community
and their consistent pursual of excellence in
everything they do. Our leadership training

Prepared. For Opportunity.

Scouts in our program, from Lion Cubs to Explorers
and Sea Scouts benefit from hands-on experiences
which often lead to new and unique opportunities
for personal development and growth.

Prepared. For Opportunity. The Northeast Illinois Council provides
opportunities for thousands of youth each year, and
the numbers are climbing. As we continue to build
our programs and train our leaders, we will continue
to support more Scout-strong youth.

Prepared. For Growth. Prepared. For Growth.

The Northeast Illinois Council was fortunate to be
fully staffed in our Field Ser vice Department in
2016. That, in conjunction with our Volunteers, our
Development Department, Scout Shop and Service
Center, Support, and Executive Staff, allowed us to
focus our efforts on our most important asset, our
youth membership base.
Keeping this in mind, seven units participated in
our Lions Pilot Program, which offers the Scouting
program to Kindergarteners to join their older
peers in pack engagement and activities. We are
energized and optimistic that, like our first grade
Tiger Cubs, our young Lions will flourish and grow
in this supportive and nurturing environment,
created by our volunteers and youth leaders.

Prepared. For Friendship.

The Northeast Illinois Council’s inclusive program
standards allow our Scouts to develop and engage
in friendships that last a lifetime. The camaraderie
between our young Scouts represents a focus on
the important tenants of the Scout Oath & Law.

Prepared. For Friendship. In 2016, our Scouts participated in events and
activities that allowed them to share experiences
and personal growth opportunities resulting in
lasting memories that will invariably lead to strong
friendships and relationships as they face life’s
challenges together.

This list represents a few of the council-wide
activities and events our Scouts shared in 2016:

Prepared. For Tradition.

Outdoor programs are not what we’re all about,
but they are what keep bringing people back. In
a world of technological distractions, the woods
keep calling. 2016 was no exception. Our camping
programs continue to gain momentum as our
young Scouts begin their journeys through the
wilderness, and their parents come back to revisit a
quieter time, sharing their own memories, traditions
and skills with our children.

Prepared. For Adventure. Prepared. For Adventure.

Adventure comes in many forms. The Scouting
program allows
our children to
stretch to the limits
of their abilities
within the safety of
boundaries created
over a hundred years
of change. New
challenges arise, new
opportunities, and
new measures of fun
continue to generate
interest in what
Scouting has to offer.

In 2016, our adventures took us from Lake Superior
to The Summit, to Philmont, and beyond. These
experiences prepare our youth to face whatever life
offers them, to accept the challenges that peak their
interest, and to persevere as pioneers on life’s great
trail.

Prepared. For Service.

Service is a key indicator of any great leadership
program, and Service to Others represents an
important component of the Scouting program
in Northeast Illinois. Consider everything from
Scouting For Food, to the Wilderness Engineering
Society, to our Eagle Projects, our Scouts make a
difference every day.
While we strive to document all of the things that
our Scouts do, each year, only a fraction of the
service hours our youth and volunteers provide
is actually reported. This is what we absolutely
achieved in 2016.

benefit our camps and our communities.

Prepared. For the Future.

Scouting in Northeast Illinois remains strong
due to the incredible support of our leaders, our
volunteers, our youth and our donors. It would be
impossible to accomplish our mission and grow
the Scouting program without this successful
combination of time, talent and treasure.

Prepared. For Life.

We’d like to thank our volunteers and Board of
Directors for nurturing, supporting and challenging
our youth to “Be Prepared” for what life brings them.
