Keynote Speaker – Risa Ward, DonorsChoose.org

Risa Ward is the Vice President, Partnerships of leading education crowdfunding nonprofit
DonorsChoose.org, a place where teachers can post project requests for the materials they need most
in the classroom, and donors can support the projects that inspire them. Risa leads a team that creates
high-impact partnerships with companies and foundations, which account for half of annual giving to
classrooms on DonorsChoose.org. Before joining the Partnerships team, Risa led Customer Relations at
DonorsChoose.org, expanding the team to deliver personalized support and a strong customer
experience for a growing community of teachers and donors.
Risa has a B.A. in Anthropology from Harvard, where she researched national service in the U.S. She is
a mentor with America Needs You and sings in the Manhattan Choral Ensemble. In 2015, Risa was
named to the Mic 50 list, a celebration of the next generation of impactful leaders, cultural influencers,
and innovators.

Session: The donation is only one part of crowdfunding. Breaking down donor stewardship &
corporate partnerships in a crowdfunding model (1 CFRE CE Credit)

Crowdfunding is an effective way to raise money. It is easy for people to see a description of a project
or need, and to give to support it. Crowdfunding charities and platforms can make giving even more
rewarding by adding personalization throughout the giving experience.
Risa will share methods used at DonorsChoose.org, the leading platform for giving to public schools, to
successfully engage crowdfunding donors.
Risa will also discuss how DonorsChoose.org builds on its crowdfunding platform to engage the
companies of today who often want to be involved at a grassroots level, making the community or
industry in which they work better. Risa will share how DonorsChoose.org makes a company's giving
experience just as personal as an individual donor's.

Featured Speaker – Simone Peterson

Simone is one of the original design team members for Manatee County’s Manatee Millennial
Movement (M3).
M3 is a group of county employees charged with engaging and soliciting feedback from the
underrepresented young professional demographic about important changes that are happening in
the county. This group has also been recognized on a national level.
In her role as Neighborhood Specialist with Manatee County Neighborhood Services Department,
Simone acts as a liaison between community organizations, neighborhood associations and county
government. She along with her division (Neighborhood Connections) helps connect the dots for
neighborhoods to make government more accessible through technology, gatherings, social media,
and word of mouth.
Having Graduated with her Master’s of Business Administration Degree and Master’s of Public
Administration degree, Simone does what she loves – building partnerships, engaging with the local
community, and completing print and design work for Manatee County Government.
Outside of work, she's an avid traveler- 27 countries, nine states, and six continents. She is a lover of
memes, Pomeranians and Pugs, candy corn, and ciders. She serves as a board member for the
Manatee County Substance Abuse Coalition and the Manasota Black Chamber of Commerce.

Session: Winning big through competitive grants for social change.
You don't have to be a startup or grassroots organization to obtain funding for projects focused on
social change. Simone Peterson shares how she and her team at Manatee County Neighborhood
Services won a coveted Knight Foundation grant to create "engagement zones" in the county. The
engagement zones seek to improve two-way communication between the county and its citizens, and
to draw millennials into the conversation. Hear how Simone is bringing together grassroots tactics within
a county government framework.
This session will focus on leadership, meaningful community engagement, Speak Up Bradenton project,
and the grant process itself.

Featured Speaker – Miraj Patel

Miraj is the co-founder of HarnessApp.com – Innovative Fundraising. Harness is an innovative
technology platform that helps nonprofits of all sizes more efficiently collect from and engage with their
donors. In less than two years of incorporation, Harness is already working hand in hand with over 45
organizations across the USA who have adopted the Harness platform. Harness was named the 2016
Tampa Bay Rays Breakout Startup Company of the Year and nominated for the 2017 Tampa Bay
Technology Forum’s Emerging Technology Company of the Year.
Miraj graduated from the University of Florida (but we'll forgive him for that) in 2013 with a Bachelors in
Marketing & Entrepreneurship. While at UF, Miraj worked for the Warrington College of Business as a
teaching assistant in business law. Miraj oversaw the philanthropic arm of 27 student-run organizations
which were responsible for raising $500k in donations from 2012-2013.

Session: Learn how to raise money in your sleep! The power of round-up and microdonations.
What they are and how they can benefit your organization.
Many of today’s nonprofits incorporate the strategy of throwing five to seven annual events to raise big
dollars from their top supporters. We zero in on our top 10% of donors in hopes that a few of them will
write the big check. And why not? It works!
However, we leave millions of dollars on the table by not adequately serving and catering to our
“average” donors. Miraj will walk us through the power of microdonations and how we can elevate our
$50 to $100 donors to giving five times more simply by changing “the ask”.

Featured Speaker – Sabeen Perwaiz

Sabeen Perwaiz is the Executive Director of Florida Nonprofit Alliance, an organization that strengthens,
promotes and advocates on behalf of Florida’s nonprofit sector. Under her leadership, FNA released
the state’s first interactive economic impact report for the state’s nonprofit sector and forged new
partnerships with the Florida Chamber Foundation, Volunteer Florida and the Florida Department of
Labor.
Sabeen is a 2015 Aspen Ideas Fellow, a 2016 Jacksonville Business Journal’s Woman of Influence and
a 2017 One Jax Humanitarian award recipient. An avid traveler, she has traveled to 37 countries and
hopes to reach 100 in her lifetime.

Session: Raise Awareness for your mission by demonstrating impact.

Nonprofit organizations are more important to our society than ever. They not only serve our
communities through mission delivery in areas such as health care, arts, social change, and human
services, but are collectively a significant contributor to the overall economy.
While there is much information and reporting on the public and private sectors of the U.S. and state
economies, the nonprofit sector’s economic contributions garner less attention. It is therefore crucial
that the industry provide accurate information on the breadth and financial scope the "third sector"
provides- in essence, reporting on its own success and lobbying for resources.
Florida Nonprofit Alliance quantifies the influence the nonprofit industry has on the economy of Florida
in its 2016 Economic Impact report. Sabeen will share information from this report while discussing how
nonprofits can use their own outcomes and impact measurements to tell their stories and encourage
investment in the organization's mission.
