R.I. Presidential Message

August 2018

A well-known saying goes, "If you want to change the
world, go home and love your family." That doesn't mean
people should ignore the needs outside their own homes;
instead, they should pay attention to the needs within.
It can be tempting, when our priority is service, to focus only on the things
that look like service: the projects, the planning, the work that yields a visible
benefit to those who need it. But to do that work effectively, we need to keep
our own house in order. In Rotary, that means conducting ourselves in
accordance with the principles of Rotary, treating others with respect, and
following The Four-Way Test. It means maximizing our impact by planning
carefully and stewarding our resources wisely. And it means looking after the
long-term health of our organization by ensuring that our membership is
strong, engaged, and healthy.

Our membership has hovered around the same 1.2 million mark for 20 years.
We aren't growing, and our membership is getting older. We have too many
clubs that don't have the knowledge or motivation to have an impact: clubs
that don't know what we're doing on a global level, clubs that don't know
about our programs or our Foundation, that don't even know how to get
involved. And with a membership that is still mostly male, we clearly aren't
doing enough to become the organization of choice for women who are
seeking to serve.

We are a membership organization first. If we want to achieve the goals we've
set for ourselves, we need to put membership first. All of us have a
responsibility to take membership seriously, not only by inviting prospective
members, but also by making sure new members are welcomed into clubs
that offer them something of value. If you see someone walk into a meeting
and hesitate, be sure that person has a place to sit and is part of the
conversation. If you're enthusiastic about a Rotary program, make sure your
club knows about it and knows how to get involved. If you see a need in
your community, talk about it at this week's meeting. If we want to be part
of an organization that's strong, that's active, that's having an impact – start
at home, and Be the Inspiration in Rotary.

President 18-19

DG Adizua's August Address

Dear fellow Rotarians,

Aimspweerasttaivret othuartsweceornedfomcuosnothuroaf popurroRaocthartoy myeeamr,biteirsship. We

The issue of recruitment is and always has been the “lifeblood” of any club. However, many
times, we as Rotarians, make this process more difficult than it really is. It is just that
simple, because each and every one of us has one friend, associate, business partner that
we trust and could recommend to Rotary.

Our strategy has to reflect the changing times, attitudes and activities that are of interest to
our membership. The Council on Legislation has given the clubs a set of options to have
more flexibility in the way we run our clubs. It has never been so easy and encouraging to
be vibrant in our club activities.

This year the District has included two Rotarians along with our Membership Chair PAG/
PDRFCC  Lindsey to help in bringing awareness and leadership development to our
membership:

1. PDG Felix Stubbs (Extension and Rotarian leadership development)
2. DGE Delma Maduro (Membership Leads)

Our guiding principles have been developed over the years to provide Rotarians with a
strong, common purpose and direction. They serve as a foundation for our relationships
with each other and the action we take in the world. If we apply these principles along with
our core values of;

-Leadership –Integrity -Diversity –Fellowship -Service

We will be able to tell Our Story, because our identity is more than just our logos and colors.
It is the essence of who we are and what we do. Strengthening our clubs and membership
will help us tell that story in a compelling way.

Many of us rarely visit My Rotary and take advantage of the online tools that have been so
well designed for our development. Whether we are looking to ATTRACT, ENGAGE,
CONNECT, ADAPT or Grow, these are excellent resource tools.

The learning center provides avenues for us to be more effective Rotarians, and provides
training at our finger tips, while the inspiration for your next project can be just a visit to
Rotary Ideas or Showcase.

Promoting our clubs has been made simple by the brand center and I encourage you to take
advantage of it.

As we celebrate our successes, let us remember that our primary customer is our members
and more attention should be paid on their welfare. A happy family attracts, “Share Your
Love for Rotary”

The More, The Merrier

The Rotaract Club of Delmas Expands

Clubs around the world completed
their inductions just in time for
Membership and New Club
Development Month. The Rotaract
Club of Delmas shared highlights from
their induction ceremony.

The club proudly welcomed three new
members, inducted by ADRR
Ghessica Meleance, and
received Tara S. Estime as their new
President. President Tara expressed
her pride and gratitude for members'
hard work and efforts, sponsor club
support and for all the others who
have helped the club during the year.
She further expressed her wishes for
the club, a club that she wants to be
stronger. Rotaractors from the
Rotaract Clubs of Mirebalais, Hinche,
Pignon, Port-au-Prince, Port-au-
Prince/Champs-de-Mars, Petion-Ville,
were also present.

Rotaract Club of Nassau Sunset's

$5 Fill Up Fundraiser

"Five dollar fill up fundraiser" -
Try repeating that fast five times
without messing up! This tongue-
twisting title describes the
Rotaract Club of Nassau Sunset's
most recent fundraising effort.

The club partnered with the
WeLife Foundation in Nassau,
Bahamas to host a fundraiser
geared towards providing school
supplies for children in need.
Rotaractors, Rotarians and
members of the community alike
all supported by donating $5 or
more in cash, purchasing cupcakes
and/or donating brand new
school supplies. The drive was
successful and donations are still
being accepted for distribution in
August.

Serving Beyond Stigmas :
The "Write" Way

(The Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman)

The Rotaract Club of Grand
Cayman truly has service "in the bag"
and they are hoping to spread some
motivation to those who may need it
the most, and they are doing it by
writing meaningful quotes on brown
paper bags. These bags will be
packaged and sent to be used for the
distribution of a light meal in the
mental health court system.

The club held an event to promote the
Brown Paper Bag project, which was
attended by District Governor Patrick
Adizua, First Lady Lesline and numerous
Rotarians and Rotaractors from the
Cayman Islands.
