Succeed through commitment and relentless ambition. 6 2 We begin our curriculum based on the prior learning of students and quickly establish a broad knowledge base from which we make rapid progress. We view each student as a scholar and have high expectations about what each student can achieve. The scientific, geographical and historical context of our city is taught explicitly and supported by all students completing the Year 7 Newfield School Diploma Walk. Our ambitious curriculum ensures that all students leave with the cultural capital necessary to compete globally with a world of opportunity and choice before them.

he curriculum is designed at Newfield TSchool to ensure that every student receives an education that leads to both opportunity and choice, removing barriers for future success. We offer a curriculum rich in both breadth and depth that allows students to acquire the necessary knowledge to be applied in both further study, whether that be in upper school or beyond, and in the wider world context encouraging students to become active citizens in the community, both locally; nationally and globally. Enrichment opportunities developing cultural capital and citizenship are available throughout the year in activities provided outside the timetabled school day, such as clubs, trips and visiting speakers. These all contribute to the wider curriculum offer at Newfield as well as providing ideal evidence for the Newfield Diploma. Qualifications that are on offer at upper school through the options process are currently History, Geography, Computing, Spanish, Art, Music, Drama, Design Technology, Ethics, Photography and Film Studies at GCSE with vocational qualifications available in Health and Social Care, Sports Studies, Enterprise, Imedia, Construction, and Hospitality and Catering. These support our core offer to ensure the breadth of routes to suit the diverse needs of all students. Edulink EduLink is a web / app-based service that we use to communicate with parents. Parents and students will each have their own accounts that they must activate. What is on there? It has lots of really useful information for students and their families to support them in their learning including: • Attendance and punctuality information • Homework • Behaviour and achievement information • Student timetable • Student reports • Link to the school website • Update personal information and permissions Why does everyone need to use it? • This is how students will know about their homework and be able to organise themselves effectively. • It is an important way that parents can support their child in their learning as they can discuss homework / attendance / behaviour etc using up to date information. • The school uses it as a tool to communicate with families and will send messages via the app. Communication/Homework @newfieldsheffield At Newfield School we use Facebook, X and Instagram to promote events and celebrate success. Search for us at: Students will be set maths homework on the website https://www.sparxmaths.uk/ They will be introduced to the platform in their maths lessons, where they will be shown how to access their personal account, the expectations of standards and how to navigate their way round the platform. Their first homework will be about logging on and using the platform correctly. Sparx will set homework once a week that is expected to take around 30 minutes. This will involve completing retrieval questions on a couple of topics with support tutorials if needed. The working out for homework is completed in a separate homework book which students will show to their teacher on hand in day. 15 We are excited to confirm the launch of Sparx Reader at Newfield School. We recognise the excellent reading habits that students have at primary school; Sparx Reader is a platform that sustains these reading habits in secondary school. Every week, your child’s English teacher will set homework through Sparx Reader that is expected to take 30 minutes. This will be reading a book chosen by your child on the Sparx Reader website and answering comprehension questions about what they have read that session. Sparx Reader will recommend books to your child that are appropriate to their reading and chronological age and interests. Your child will be introduced to the Sparx Reader platform in an English lesson and their login details will be the same as they use for Sparx Maths. Sparx Maths Sparx Reader

25 Encouraging our students to walk and cycle to school eases congestion on the school drive and reduces polution. The safety of our students on their way to and from school is of paramount importance to us. Parents should not come on to the school site to pick up their children unless absolutely necessary. Please arrange for your child to walk home, take the school bus or be picked up from another location away from the school site. If your child cycles please ensure they are visible to other road users and pedestrians and wear high visisbility clothing, lights and reflectors and a helmet. Walking to school provides an excellent opportunity to meet up with friends and extend their social network. When walking to school please ensure your child crosses the road safely and uses designated school paths. 718 – Manor Top to Newfield School 723 – Woodseats to Norton to Newfield School 721 – Heeley to Newfield School 20 - Olive Grove to Warminster Road
