Chiropody / Podiatry
AH Parfiit Chiropdy provides professional foot treatments for all the family
Chiropody / podiatry is the assessment, diagnosis
and treatment of the foot, ankle and lower leg
conditions, and there is no difference between a
chiropodist or a podiatrist. Chiropody is the old term
for treatment by a foot health professional but the
term podiatry is becoming increasingly used as it is
a common term, used all over the world,
for treatment by a foot health professional.
The team at AH Parfitt Chiropodry are registered with the Health Care
Professions Council and are members of the Society of Chiropodists and
Podiatrists, with extended scope of practice for ‘Foot Mobilisation’ and local
anaesthetic to carry out nail surgery.
There are many ailments and conditions that can be successfully treated by a
qualified chiropodist, these include: Aching and/or tired feet, Musckuloskeletal
problems, Biomechanical abnormalities of the foot and ankle, Flat feet and
fallen arches, Skin conditions, Corns and Callus, Verrucae and warts, Fungal
infections of the skin and nails, Diabetic foot health, Sports Injuries and
Paediatric (children’s) feet.
Common Problems
Athletes Foot - Verrucaes - Heel Pain - Corns and Calluses - Bunions
Ingowing Toenails - Plantar Fasciitis - Diabetic Foot Conditions
Hammer Toes - Fungal Nail Infections - Arthritis in the Feet
People with diabetes may be at risk of developing foot
problems. Therefore it is beneficial to be screened, at least
annually, to detect the presence of neuropathy, ischaemia
and/or foot deformities.

A police officer in a small Dorset town stopped a motorist who was speeding through the town.
“But officer.” the man began, “I can explain”. “Just be quiet,” snapped the officer. “I’m going to let you
cool your heels at the station until the sarge gets back...” “But officer, I just wanted to say....”
“And I said to keep quiet! If you don’t stop arguing with me you’ll be locked up for the night!”
A few hours later the officer looked in on his prisoner and said, “Lucky for you that the sarge is at his
daughter’s wedding. He’ll be in a good mood when he gets back.”
“Don’t count on it,” answered the fellow in the cell. “I’m the groom.”

Project Indigo
One boy’s adventure through time and space!
Hi, I’m Tom, a local Doctor Who blogger & I write about my adventures online at...
anadventurethroughtimeandspace.com
Project Indigo is my blog where I travel the world visiting
people and places associated with Doctor Who. Back in
February I holidayed in Paris where, like the Doctor, I went
to The Louvre to see the Mona Lisa.
Doctor Who was filmed on location abroad for the very
first time for the episode City of Death (1979). In it, the
Fourth Doctor and his companion Romana2 are visiting
Paris for a holiday and to do some sight-seeing. Romana
has her portrait sketched and she remarks that Gallifreyan
computers are better at capturing a likeness than artists.
The Doctor is appalled so takes her to The Louvre to see
the Mona Lisa which he thinks is one of the finest pieces of art in the universe. This led to
the Doctor becoming involved in an alien plot by Count Scarlioni to steal the Mona Lisa.
The Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci around 1503-1506. One source claims
the model for the Mona Lisa was the Twelfth Doctor’s companion Clara Oswald however
most people think it is Lisa Gherardini, wife of the Florentine silk merchant Francesco del
Giocondo. The Italian name for the painting is La Gioconda which means The Jovial One.
It is the most valuable painting in the world with a record-breaking insurance valuation of
£640 million.
The painting didn’t become famous outside of the art world
until 1911 when a Louvre employee, Vincenzo Peruggia,
stole it by hiding it under his coat. He was an Italian patriot
who believed it should have been returned to an Italian
museum. The Mona Lisa lived in his flat for two years and
was recovered when he tried to sell it to the Uffizi Gallery in
Florence. He went to prison for 6 months and was claimed an
Italian national hero.
Because of her value and famosity the Mona Lisa is contained
in a resilient glass display case and this and the crowds
prevented me from seeing her in her full glory. I am happy
that she is protected for future generations but wonder what Leonardo Da Vinci would
think. Would he be glad his work was prized so highly or sad that people could not get close
to appreciate it?
As I departed The Louvre I was cut off by some Gendarmes and I had to take an alternative
route to my TARDIS. I thought it was Count Scarlioni attempting to steal the Mona Lisa
again but it was actually French President Emmanuel Macron arriving! He was attending the
34th annual CRIF dinner.
If you would like to read about my other Doctor Who adventures please check out my blog.
Thanks for reading, goodbye!

Top Tips For Selling Your House
Widely regarded by many as being one of the most stressful processes a person can go
through, selling a home can take its toll on not only your wallet but also your stress
levels. However, being prepared and taking some well thought out steps to get your
home looking its best can substantially reduce this stress and help you to sell your
home even quicker.
First Impressions: The outside of your property is the first chance to wow potential
buyers and to get them interested in seeing more. Little things can make a huge
difference to the kerb appeal of your house, so make sure you cut the grass, sweep all
of the paths, move your bins out of view and clean up anything unsightly.
For a touch of colour, think about adding inexpensive hanging baskets and planting
some bedding flowers; these types of flowers really make a statement and provide
a focal point for the outside of the property. It is also a good idea to cut back any
overgrown bushes and to clean any patio areas. A well maintained garden can help
prospective buyers visualise themselves using the garden.
It is also a good idea to freshen up any tired or outdated exterior fixtures such as fences
or garden furniture and make sure that any external windows and doors are in good
condition, are clean, and all latches and handles are in working order.
Declutter: If potential buyers cannot envisage themselves living in a property, it
is harder for them to make a decision. People often find this difficult when looking
around houses and one of the major reasons for this is clutter.
Think about moving out or storing any bulky furniture and try to declutter as much as
possible, but leave some of your personality to shine through. Open spaces and neutral
colours often make small rooms feel bigger and make it easier for buyers to imagine
their belongings in the space.
Clean & Fresh: Bad smells are known to be one of the biggest turn offs for
prospective buyers, so making sure that your drains and sinks are clean, your food bin
is disinfected and that your house is aired out can make a big difference.
Fresh flowers or a fruit bowl provide a pleasant smell to a room. Scented candles are
also an option, but don’t over do it, too many conflicting smells can be off-putting.

Travel Feature -
The Celebrity Edge...
Anyone on my Facebook pages this last week, couldn’t fail to notice
that I spent a couple of nights on board the new Celebrity Edge,
when she docked in Southampton for her European viewing by all
the travel agents fortunate to tour her. Along with 80 of my Travel
Counsellor colleagues, I spent 2 nights on board, as she did a short
cruise around the Solent.
Celebrity Cruises and Travel Counsellors have a close relationship
– we love their cruise ships – and more importantly, so do our clients. And this beautiful ship is amazing.
It’s innovative, trendy and takes cruising to a new level. It’s like being on a luxury hotel at sea, with style
and vibe. If you’ve not cruised before, think of this as an alternative to a land-based package for special
occasions like a honeymoon, or an anniversary. And if you are already a passionate cruiser – think of this
a step to the future. Comfortable, spacious, and classy.
Some of the features we tried were: Our Edge stateroom with its
infinity balcony, and floor to ceiling window, the main dining room –
split into 4 different restaurants, the Garden of Eden – unique and
spanning 3 stories – with glass fronted views of the sea, the Roof
Top Garden - stunning outdoor space with activities early to late
and beyond, the Magic Carpet – a floating dinning and bar area,
suspended from the side of the ship, the Retreat – exclusive area for Suite guests with pool, hot tubs, and
elegant restaurant, specialty restaurants – including Fine Cut Steakhouse, Luminae, Le Grand Bistro.
There are so many little areas to sit, so many hideaway corners, this is a ship to be savoured, not just
used as a vessel on route. An early morning cuppa sat in the sunshine of your stateroom, behind the glass
windows of the infinity balcony; breakfast and lunch in the self-service restaurant The Ocean View Café.
Some of my colleagues took classes, or used the running track, some of us relaxed in the Garden of Eden
– admiring the space and views. Others went to The Spa, or chilled in the Retreat. And in the evening after
dinner, we saw the show in the Theatre and had fun at the Silent Disco. And finished the night at The Club.
So many choices.
Celebrity Edge is now on her way to Europe for her first summer season, based there and offering a choice
of Mediterranean itineraries. Next Spring is the countdown is for Celebrity Apex – the second ship in this
class, who will be based in Southampton.
Thank you, Celebrity Cruises, for hosting our visit on your wonderful new ship – she raises the bar in
cruising. I thoroughly enjoyed my couple of days on board her – and can’t wait to sell her this summer,
and already taking bookings for her sister ship Apex for 2020. Cruising is all about looking ahead and
discovering new horizons – these beauties help us do that.
Beach holidays, City breaks, Honeymoons, Weddings abroad, Adventure holidays, Ski,
Cruise, Tailormade trips, Flight only, Car hire, Airport hotels and parking and much more...

Anne Cornish, VA
Admin Support for Small Businesses
My passion for languages and organisation led me to train as a bilingual
secretary in 1990 and ten years later move from Germany to London to join a
global property investment company as a PA, eventually settling in Bournemouth
in 2015, when I set up my own business as a 'Virtual Assistant' (a VA).
Now you're probably asking yourself "What is a Virtual Assistant?" Many
people do! A Virtual Assistant is a self-employed Personal Assistant, who works
from home and can offer you the same administrative tasks a PA would do from
your office base, saving a small business time and money.
I have a wealth of knowledge and skills to bring to your small business, offering
admin support including email and diary management, document creation, and
travel arrangements. I can also carry out more specialised tasks such as data
entry, projects, research, English-German translations or social media content
creation and scheduling. These are all tasks that can take up a lot of time for a
small business owner and that's why I can make a real difference to you.
I tailor my service to each client's needs and am very flexible, adapting tasks or
hours as a business grows. I work with business owners in different industries
locally, elsewhere in the UK and abroad, freeing up their time to do what they do
best.
I can do the same for you! Please get in touch to find out
more and to book your free one-hour consultation.

The Bourne Academy
Emotional Scenes As Students Receive ‘Proud Letters’
The Bourne Academy has launched a new initiative to encourage Year 11 students as they
reach the summit of learning before GCSE exams begin. At a time when students are really
feeling pressure, we wanted to emphasize how proud we are of them. Last term, we wrote a
secret letter to parents/carers letting them know about the initiative and inviting them to write
a letter to support their child at this crucial time.
Parents, carers, siblings, wider families and Academy staff
wrote individual letters to each student in Year 11 filled
with words of encouragement to support students as they
head into the exam season. The ‘proud letters’ were kept
confidential, which added to the emotion when they received
their surprise letters in an Assembly last week; the letter
opening was accompanied by champagne flutes filled with
pink lemonade together with specially decorated cupcakes.
Mrs Leech, Assistant Principal says ‘Our Year 11’s received
motivational letters from family and staff letting them know
just how proud we are of them both in terms of the effort
they have put in over the last two years in the run up to their exams and on what fantastic
young people they have become. As you can imagine this was a very special and somewhat
emotional event. Our thanks go out to everyone who wrote a letter.
This will help spur students on in that last push towards their exams.’

2: Last week I travelled from London to Leeds, which was a distance of 174 miles.
I started at 9.15am and completed the journey with an average speed of 40 miles

starting at 5.15pm. The traffic was light and I completed the journey with an
average speed of 60 miles per hour.
What was the overall average speed for round trip? (The answer is not 50 mph).

June / July - Gardeners Tips
Glorious June. The best gardening month in the year for me.
Warm weather and long days into evenings. Stay at home and
enjoy your gardening. Here are some ideas for you to decide on
doing.
Harden off half-hardy annuals, which have been started
undercover and need acclimatising to the outside environment over
a period of a week or so ready for planting in their final position.
Re-pot houseplants which show signs of being root-bound and give
plants more space as they grow.
Continue to sow Beetroot, Pak Choi, Radishes and Salad leaves.
If not done so already, sow Runner & French Beans, Peas, Sweetcorn and Outdoor Cucumber directly
into prepared ground.
Plant out Tomatoes, remembering to remove side shoots.
Continue to earth up Potatoes. Use high potash feed for container grown fruit.
Other jobs could include preparing Hanging Baskets, feeding Roses (use Toprose or similar) to keep
them healthy and sustain their perfume. Keep the lawn cut regularly but not too short in dry weather.
You can apply a selective weed killer and feed on the lawn to keep it looking good.
July in the garden should be a time to sit back and take a look at what you have achieved
over the past year. Fruit and vegetables are ripening fast, and the plants are flowering like
mad. Summer is now in full swing and we are heading rapidly for the harvest of our labours.
However if you have recently taken over a new garden or have yet to rid your ground of
Bindweed, here is how to do it. By hand and by laboriously picking it over. July is the month
when Bindweed will take over if left unchecked.
1. Pull as much Bindweed off any plants it is smothering as is
possible. Don’t worry at this stage if you break the stems.
2. Using a light border or hand fork, dig around the base of
every Bindweed stem in sight. Gently pull the white stringy
roots, try to avoid breaking them. Sometimes the roots go
deep so dig in and pull as much root out as you can see.
3. In a few weeks you might probably see the reoccurrence of
fresh Bindweed growth. If you intend to rid your garden of
this weed then you must dig them up as before as soon as you see them. Do not allow them to
take control.
4. Never compost Bindweed, either burn it or bin it.
5. The alternative is by using Glyphosate or Roundup, it is fiddly and potentially harmful to
you so do take care and use protective clothing, gloves and goggles.
6. Do not despair, you will beat it if you persist.
Keep the date free: Saturday 10th. August for the NBAS Summer Show.
