On Monday, September 25, 2017, Mayor Dennis Leahy and the Village of May-
brook Board of Trustees formally recognized members of the Town of Montgomery
Police Department and the Village of Maybrook Police Department and bestowed
upon them awards of recognition for their heroic actions on May 16, 2017. Sergeant
Michael Maresca, Village of Maybrook Police Department was presented the Life
Saving Award; Police Officer Kevin Greany, Village of Maybrook Police Depart-
ment was presented the Life Saving Award and Combat Cross; Lieutenant Alex
Landolina III, Town of Montgomery Police Department was presented the Life Sav-
ing Award and Combat Cross; Police Officer John Hank, Town of Montgomery Po-
lice Department was presented the Life Saving Award, Combat Cross, and the Medal
of Honor; and Chief Arnold “Butch” Amthor of the Town of Montgomery and the
Village of Maybrook Police Department was awarded the Combat Cross and Purple
Heart from the Village of Maybrook. Chief Amthor was unable to attend the Award
Ceremony as he is still recovering from the incident. Chief Amthor’s mother Alice
and his wife Lisa accepted the awards on his behalf. Mayor Dennis Leahy and the Village of Maybrook Board of Trustees wished Chief Amthor a
speedy recovery and hope to see him back to his duties as Chief in the Town of Montgomery and the Village of Maybrook soon. Mayor Dennis Leahy
conveyed his deepest appreciation to the dedicated officers from both departments who were involved in this life-threatening incident and thanked all
of the agencies that responded, including but not limited to the New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff Carl Dubois, Orange County Executive
Steven Neuhaus, and Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.

The VFW Post 2064 Ladies Auxiliary welcomed Dee Guillory of Gloucester, Va. She was elected National President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the
United States Auxiliary at its 104th National Convention in New Orleans, La., on July 26, 2017. Dee has served the organization in many capacities, including Aux-
iliary, District and State President, for which she was named Outstanding President of the Year for her membership group. She served several terms as both Treasurer
and Secretary for her Auxiliary. On the National level, she was Director for the Legislative, Rehabilitation and Extension programs; she served on the Council of
Administration from 2003-05 and as National Chief of Staff in 2010-11.
