Although Garcia would likely be involved with the community
whether she had help or not, she did share, “People seem to just
trail after me and they want to do what I am doing. I don’t have to
preach to anyone.”

If Garcia looks familiar to you and you are not sure from where,
here is a condensed overview of some of the things she has been
involved in:

Walden Woman’s Club, Walden Historical Society,
Sunshine Society, Walden Community Council,
40-year career as an educator and service with the 4-H
Club and Cornell Cooperative Extension, and has
received the following awards of recognition: 2002
Village of Walden Volunteer of the Year, 2013 Sam
Phelps Service Award Walden Mayor Rumbold had
this to say about Garcia, “The love that June Garcia
has for this Village cannot be measured. Her hours
of community service stand as testimonial to her
dedication to all of us.”

While many senior citizens are likely
asked what their secret is to aging, Garcia
has some definite thoughts, “I still drive.
I just keep going. I simply can’t believe
my own age. There is no one secret. Ever
since I was little and growing up with my
brothers, we were simply raised to do the
right thing, nothing foolish and that has
been enough and we all got through it.”

So, the next time you are at a Village of
Walden community event, you might
very well run into the energetic and
driven June Garcia. If you are thinking of
adopting a pet from the Humane Society
of Walden, it may have received some
care, attention or donations as a direct
result of the passion of June Garcia.
When you realize you may have a little
bit of time and can help out a worthy
cause in the Village, you might very well
join a committee alongside, you guessed
it, June Garcia.

The 9th annual Backpack Giveaway, run by the Walden Rotary, was able to reach
over 7,000 children throughout Orange County this year largely in part to Fidelis
Care who donated all of the backpacks. A&T House of Bounce supplied a few
bounce houses, Jesse from the Barber Lounge gave free haircuts, kids got their
face painted, Walden Savings Bank gave away free crayons and glue sticks, and
Faith Moore gave away 50 lunchboxes filled with healthy snacks. Many volunteers
from Walden Savings Bank, Walden Recreation Department, and Walden Rotary
helped stuff the backpacks prior to the event. Walden Rotary expanded its reach
this year again and held similar events in Maybrook, Middletown, and Newburgh.

Emceeing the event is also no small task. Dickie Baxter, who is new to Rotary, has
his own children Cooper (age 11) and Madelyn (age 9) help work the event since
it started, and you can really tell they have caught that “give-back fever”. With so
much experience, they often help tell the adults what to do the day of. The major
excitement comes when all of the children are told to check the front pocket of
the backpack. If it contains one of the five winning tickets, that child just won a
free Kindle.

It’s an amazing event which allows so many people the chance to join together and
give back and for others to receive. Keith Hunter of Hunter Insurance Services
has been a sponsor since day one. In fact, even mentioning his name in the press
will now mean he will have to donate another dollar to the Walden Rotary Club
according to the club’s “fines” they impose on its members to help raise additional
money to do good things in the community. Hunter is a rock star who truly likes
to work behind the scenes. His heart is for giving and helping others, so it’s no
surprise to find out he is a big part of this event. It’s people like him that make
events like this a great success. A huge round of applause to everyone involved.
Great job!

Dear Young Humans of Walden,

Everyone wants to change the world. Each one of us is born with the innate desire to live a significant life
- a life unlike any other. At least I can claim that for myself. There is nothing I fear more than living an
insignificant life. I want my life to matter. I want to make an impact. I want to leave this world, this nation,
this community different than I found it. I, too, want to change the world. And while my dreams for my
own life are big and farfetched, my hope is that each one of us feel that same sense of purpose, that each of us
can agree that we want to see this world, and specifically the community of Walden, changed for the better.

I believe everybody wants to change their community. But what does that look like? Where do we start? How
do we really change a community? We all have our theories. My theory is… you. I believe you are the World’s
Secret Weapon.

Why? Because I believe in you: your true identity, your destiny, your creative value. I believe deep down in
your soul, you want what is good for your life. I believe that you want to be free - free to live your life, in liberty and in the pursuit
of happiness. I know that it isn’t easy, because you look around and see your school, your peers, your teachers, your household, and
everything on the interwebs, and from that you derive a false awareness of self. I know that at times you are unsure, scared, ashamed,
insecure, anxious, offended, wounded, angry, and confused in this life. I believe that you are underestimated. I believe that your
potential has remained dormant for far too long. I believe your mind is underutilized, and so your time is sometimes wasted chasing
trivial nothings.

But I believe it doesn’t have to be that way. I believe you want more.

I believe that you’re in the right place, at the right time - right here, right now in Walden. I believe that although you are not fully grown,
you are capable of changing this world, this nation, this village. I believe right where you’re at in life, right this moment, you are capable
of bearing far more fruit than you yield now. I believe you want your life to be better, healthier, wealthier - fuller. I believe that you have
that choice. I believe you can choose life abundantly. I believe that this choice is the choice to rule all other choices. Why? Because I
believe the best choice for a changed life is to know Christ.

I believe that godliness has value for all things: your schooling, your health, your fitness, your relationships, your finances, your career,
your dreams. I believe that everything you’re searching for, every mystery, every component of your existence, is revealed in knowing
Jesus Christ. I believe that we exist to be Hospital, a Fortress, and an Oasis for you at Trinity Church, and I believe that by pointing
you to Him, you will find all of the elements for you to believe in your created value. I believe in our mission to help you become the
truest version of yourself.

I believe in you. My question for you is, do you believe me?

Youth Pastor, Trinity Church

Want to try something new on Friday Nights? Come hang out with us! Two nights a month, the church is full of smiles, laughs,
and love. It is a safe place to make new friends, boost self esteem, acquire practical skills to face the difficulties of this world,
and learn how to grow your relationship with others and the Lord. In the warmer months the fields behind the church are filled
with kids playing dodge ball, capture the flag, manhunt and other fun group games. In cooler months the kids move inside to
play more dodge ball, human pin ball, Wii games, crafts, ping pong, and board games. Each night pizza or a specially-prepared
meal is served. We divide the youth into two groups:
