A Word From Our Counselor - Mrs. Lower y

February and March are going to be busy months for all students. Seniors can still enjoy
life and spending time with friends, while remaining focused on larger goals by being
aware of a few important items:

1. Confirm applications – Most colleges will send you a confirmation that your application has been
received and is being processed. If you haven't gotten receipt confirmation on any of your applica-
tions, do so as soon as possible.

2. Financial aid – You submitted your FAFSA in December, and by now you should be receiving a
Student Aid Report, or SAR. Review this carefully and verify that everything is accurate. Discrep-
ancies on this form may result in the loss of thousands of dollars in financial aid.

3. Late applications – Some schools have late deadlines or rolling admissions policies, meaning
there is no set deadline and applications may be submitted anytime in the winter or spring. As with
everything else, it is still wise to apply as early as you can. You never know how competitive open
seats will be.

4. Acceptance letters – Acceptance, rejection and waitlist letters may start arriving as early as
February or March. In most cases, you will have until the end of April to make a decision. If you
haven't received any letters yet, don't worry. It is common for letters to go out in April.

5. Visits – Visit colleges on their “short list.” https://blog.connectionsacademy.com/The-Key-Question-
During-a-College-Visit-Does-the-Student-Fit/

6. Comparisons - Consider college acceptances; compare financial aid packages offered.

7. Questions - Call college financial aid representatives with questions.

8. Decisions - Decide on the college to attend and contact its offices.

9. Loans - Make informed decisions about student loans. https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans

10. Most importantly - the temptation to goof off during the last year of high school may be strong,
students should be made aware that college admissions officers will expect to see that they’ve
worked hard to keep grades up and continued their involvement in school and community activi-
ties. https://www.connectionsacademy.com/online-school/community

blood is a necessity in our community, it goes out to all local
hospitals in our area, so spread the word, and donate, donate,
donate!
