Message from our Superintendent
Dwight G. Thomas

Wow! One fourth of the school year has come and gone. I want to say to the students, “Keep your
eyes on the prize!” The first part of the school year is easy for everyone: students, teachers, and ad-
ministrators alike are on the top of their game during the first quarter of the school year. However,
now we are getting into the time of year where everyone has fallen into a routine and sometimes we
lose focus of why we are here. Seniors, especially, have to stay very focused during this time of dead-
lines, such as SAT/ACT sign-ups, scholarship and college entry applications, along with a slew of oth-
er things that can sneak up on you before you realize they have come and gone. Evaluate your goals
and make sure you are on track to achieve them.

I want to take a moment to give a big congratulatory “Way to go” to the AHS Tiger Band. At the
Region 21 Marching Contest in Longview, we saw our Tiger band score an overall 1 ranking, the ON-
LY 3A band in the contest to do so. Directors, Mr. Cook and Mrs. Rodriguez, along with twirl sponsor
Tiffany Ellis and section coaches Steven Dees and Ethan Day, should be commended on the program
they designed and the preparation and time that were required to implement it. Each and every band
member has busted their backside to make this year’s program one of the best in our schools histo-
ry. Good luck at the next round of competition and Go Tigers and Go Band!

Message from our Counselor
Mrs. Donna Lowery

Seniors, if you have not completed your FAFSA application for the 2018-2019 school year, please do so
as soon as possible. There are scholarships available and deadlines are coming up quickly, so students need
to start applying, but some will require that your FAFSA be complete. A list of scholarship websites can be
found on the Counselor’s page located on the Arp High School website. Also, go by the counselors outer
office and check for updates. New scholarship opportunities come in almost every day.

Need to see the counselor, go on to the High School web page and fill out the Counselor Request Form

Fields of Faith

By: Houston Duffy

Fields of Faith was very successful this year. Students from area schools joined together to worship and
share Christ with one another. Many students were moved closer to Christ and everyone enjoyed the oppor-
tunity to share fellowship with one another. We worshiped through music and a few Henderson students
shared their favorite bible verses. After Worship and the message we all went down to the field and prayed
together. Overall, everyone had a great time and improved their relationship with God.

Cross Country

By: Cole Bardsley

The Arp Tiger Cross Country season has
come to an end. The District meet was held
on October 9th at Lear Park in Longview.
While team did not advance at district, they
had a great season and are looking forward
to next year. Thanks to Coach Q for push-
ing us to do our best and to all of you for

your help and support!

Band

By: Christine Bays

The Arp Tiger Band performed at 1:15 p.m. on October 21st and were the only 3A band to be given a 1st
division rating that day. They advanced to Area Marching Contest,
and performed at 10:30 a.m. They had an amazing performance
that landed them a slot in the finals, and they performed again that
night at 10:30 p.m. The band did not advance to state but would
like to thank all the people that have supported them this season,
especially the band boosters. The band parents did an amazing job
making sure the band was well taken care of, and they even grilled
hamburgers for the entire band while they waited for results!

Majorettes

By: Christine Bays

The AHS Majorettes earned a 1 rating at the UIL Twirling Contest and will advance to State Competition
later this year. Chelsea McDonald, Breonna Tyiska, Liana Cabe, and Macy Maxwell also earned a 1 rating
with their solo routines and will advance to State. Chelsea has even advanced to using fire batons!!
