The first step in paying for college is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA). Many parents and students aren’t filling out the FAFSA, and losing out on college grants, schol-
arships and student loans. Some feel that they make too much money to qualify for aid, but that is not cor-
rect. If a student thinks that they are going to borrow at all, they need to fill out the form. Not all financial
aid is need-based and unsubsidized loans also require that you fill out the FAFSA. Plus, the FAFSA actually
has no income cap, so you can apply no matter how high your family income is. Soooooo…Get ready! The
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) will be available on October 1st for the 2018-19 aca-
demic year. Completing the FAFSA is the first step in determining a student’s eligibility for financial aid.

We will have “$ for College Monday” on October 23rd from 4:00PM-6:30PM at Arp High School in room
270.

Sign up for the PSAT before it is too late!! PSAT will be given on the Arp High School campus on
Wednesday, October 11th and is open for high school students, grades 9th -11th. The cost is $16.00 and must
be paid before taking the test.

Red Ribbon Week is October 23rd-27th. Good Character-Good Choices! Drug & Bully Free!

What seniors should be doing: Focus on grades, start narrowing prospective college list, obtain letters
of recommendation, schedule ACT or SAT if going to 4 year college, start looking for scholarships, and
attend “$ for College Monday” on October 23rd!!!

What juniors should be doing: Focus on grades, sign up and take the PSAT on October 11th, research
colleges, and look for community services opportunities.

NHS Blood Drive

By: Silver Roberts

Approximately every 2 seconds, someone in the United States needs blood, so on September 5th, the Na-
tional Honor Society organized a blood drive for the students of Arp to donate blood. In total, 36 donors
were registered, 5 donors were not able to give blood, and 33 units of blood were donated over this day.
Overall, 13 first time donors were registered. With that amount of blood, doctors could perform almost 6
heart surgeries, or help almost 2 burn victims. If you were not able to donate this time, the NHS will have
another blood drive at the beginning of next year in January! Don’t forget to donate!
