Recipe... Apple and

blackberry crumble

Fruit base Topping

340g/12oz cooking apples 170g/6oz plain flour
120g/4oz blackberries 85g/3oz butter
120g/4oz granulated sugar 60g/2oz soft brown sugar

Method

Peel and slice apples and layer with blackberries in a 1.2 litre (2-pint)
buttered dish sprinkling sugar between each layer.
Place flour in a bowl, add butter and rub into a fine breadcrumb
consistency. Add the soft brown sugar and mix in with your fingers,
then spread the crumb over the fruit, patting it down with your hand.
Place in the oven at gas mark 5,190o (170o fan) for 15 minutes.
Turn the temperature down to gas mark 4, 180o (150o fan) for
45 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve with cream or custard.
(You can give a bit more crunch to your crumble by adding a handful
of chopped nuts or flaked almonds to the mix before spreading the
crumb on top).
