Telephone etiquettes - An individual needs to follow a set of rules and regulations while
interacting with the other person over the phone.
 Always remember your voice has to be very pleasant while interacting with the other person
over the phone. Don’t just start speaking, before starting the conversation use warm greetings
like “good morning”, “good evening” or “good noon” depending on the time.

 Never call any person at odd hours like early morning or late nights as the person will definitely
be sleeping and will not be interested in talking to you.

 In any official call, don’t use words like” Any guess who I am? “As the person on the other
side might be occupied with something and can get disturbed. Always say “Is it Ted?”, and do
ask him, “Is it the good time to talk to you?” and then start communicating. If the person sounds
busy always wait for the appropriate time.

 Make sure your content is crisp and relevant. Don’t play with words, come to the point directly
and convey the information in a convincing manner. First prepare your content thoroughly and
then only pick up the receiver to start interacting.

 After dialing, always reconfirm whether the person on the other side is the desired person whom
you want to interact with. Always ask “Am I speaking to Mike?” or “Is this Jenny?” before starting

the conversation.

 Always carefully dial the numbers, never be in a rush or dial the numbers in dark as it would lead
to a wrong call. If by mistake you have dialed a wrong number, don’t just hang up, do say sorry

and then keep the phone courteously.

 Never put the second party on a very long holds. Always keep the information handy and
don’t run for things in between any call as the listener is bound to get irritated.

 While interacting over the phone, don’t chew anything or eat your food.

 After completing the conversation, don’t just hang up. Reconfirm with the receiver whether he has

downloaded the correct information or not and do end your conversation with pleasant words like
“Take care”, “nice speaking with you” and a warm bye. Never say Goodbye.

 Always speak each and every word clearly. The person on the other hand can’t see your
expressions so remember your tone should be apt to express your feelings in the correct form.

 Don’t take too long to pick up any call. If you miss the call, make sure you give a call back as
the other person might have an important message to convey. Avoid giving missed calls at work
places as it irritates the other person.

 If you are not the correct person and the speaker needs to speak to your fellow worker always
say “one moment please- I will call him in a minute”. If the colleague is not in the office premises,
always take a message on his behalf and don’t forget to convey him when he is back.

EBMC MAGAZINE 11

Prioritization is the essential skill that you need to make the very best use of your own efforts and those of your

team. It's also a skill that you need to create calmness and space in your life so that you can focus your energy and attention
on the things that really matter.

It's particularly important when time is limited and demands are seemingly unlimited. It helps you to allocate your time where
it's most-needed and most wisely spent, freeing you and your team up from less important tasks that can be attended to
later... or quietly dropped.

With good prioritization (and careful management of reprioritized tasks) you can bring order to chaos, massively reduce
stress, and move towards a successful conclusion. Without it, you'll flounder around, drowning in competing demands.

Scheduling is the art of planning your activities so that you can achieve your goals and priorities in the time you

have available. When it's done effectively, it helps you:

Understand what you can realistically achieve with your time.
Make sure you have enough time for essential tasks.
Add contingency time for "the unexpected."
Avoid taking on more than you can handle.
Work steadily toward your personal and career goals.
Have enough time for family and friends, exercise and hobbies.
Achieve a good work-life balance.

Time is the one resource that we can't buy, but we often waste it or use it ineffectively. Scheduling helps you think about what
you want to achieve in a day, week or month, and it keeps you on track to accomplish your goals.

How to Schedule Your Time?

Set a regular time to do your scheduling – at the start of every week or month, for example.

There are a number of different tools to choose from. A simple and easy way to keep a schedule is to use a pen and paper,
organizing your time using a weekly planner.

You can also use apps and software such as Google Calendar®, MS Outlook® and Business Calendar. Choose a scheduling
tool that suits your situation, the current structure of your job, your personal taste, and your budget.

The most important thing when choosing your planner is that it lets you enter data easily, and allows you to view an
appropriate span of time (day/week/month) in the level of detail that you need.

Once you have decided which tool you want to use, prepare your schedule in the following way:

Step 1: Identify Available Time
For example, if you're pushing for promotion, it might be prudent to work beyond normal hours each day to show your
dedication. If, on the other hand, you want to have plenty of time for out-of-work activities, you might decide to do your
allocated hours and no more.

Step 2: Schedule Essential Actions
For example, if you manage people, make sure that you have enough time available to deal with team members' personal
issues, coaching, and supervision needs. Also, allow time to communicate with your boss and key people around you.

Step 3: Schedule High-Priority Activities
Try to arrange these for the times of day when you are most productive – for example, some people are at their most
energized and efficient in the morning, while others focus more effectively in the afternoon or evening.

EBMC Magazine | Special Edition

EBMC MAGAZINE 12

Step 4: Schedule Contingency Time
Next, schedule some extra time to cope with contingencies and emergencies. Experience will tell you how much to allow – in
general, the more unpredictable your job, the more contingency time you'll need

Step 5: Schedule Discretionary Time
The space you have left in your planner is "discretionary time": time that is available to deliver your priorities and achieve your
goals. Review your prioritized To-Do List and personal goals Add to My Personal Learning Plan, evaluate the time you need
to achieve them, and schedule them in.

Managing Interruptions- Maintain Focus, Keep Control of Your Time (avoid disturbance)

Everyday interruptions at work can be a key barrier to managing your time effectively and, ultimately, can be a barrier to your
success.
Dealing with lateness:

Dealing With Lateness, Solving Punctuality Problems

Organizing Disorganized People, Motivating Your Team to Change

Minimizing Distractions, Managing Your Work Environment

Emails

While email is incredibly useful, it's also one of the biggest work distractions we face. Many of us could spend entire days
simply reading and responding to emails.

Phone calls

Minimize phone call distractions by turning off your
phone during your peak work hours. Or, let your team
know that you won't take non-essential calls between
specific times, such as from noon to 2 p.m.
The internet- Browsing the web can take up
enormous amounts of time from our day, and when
we start looking on the Internet for one thing, it's easy
to get lost for 20 minutes or more.

Tiredness

Coming to work well rested is vital to having a
productive day.
Get enough sleep, stay hydrated, watch your diet

BREXIT REALITY

Robert Niblette

The politicians who will lead the UK out of the EU must guard against allowing a yawning gap to emerge
between their political rhetoric and the realities facing Britain outside.

When pushed during this EU referendum campaign for a prediction on the result, I tended to
conclude, however cautiously, that Remain would win a tight race. But I always ended with the
warning that we are living in a ’Trumpy world’. Like most people, including most of those
campaigning for the UK to leave the EU, my sense of the likely result turned out to be wrong and
my warning correct.

An unexpected majority of British voters have overthrown not just Britain’s relationship with its
European neighbors but the established political order in the UK, and, potentially, Europe. This
result was as unexpected as Donald Trump taking the Republican presidential nomination. In the
US, however, voters have yet to decide whether to entrust Trump with the keys to the White
House. In the UK, those who promised to the British people that leaving the EU would let them

EBMC Magazine | Special Edition

EBMC MAGAZINE 15
‘take back control’ over their lives are now expected to deliver on that promise.

This will not be easy. Blaming the EU for all of Britain’s ills has been pure displacement activity.

Contrary to some of the rhetoric, the EU has not hogtied the UK in regulation and has not drained

funds from the Exchequer. Being a member of the EU is not the reason that Britain has failed to
live up to its self-image as a ‘proud trading nation’. Britain’s ills − and there are many, as this vote
has revealed − are self-inflicted.

Nor has EU membership made Britain less secure domestically or influential internationally. Being
in the EU has generally complemented the UK’s military and diplomatic objectives, whether in
dealing with Russia, Iran or ISIS. Britain in the EU was not in ‘managed decline’, as one pro-Leave
politician described it again this morning – in fact, as those same politicians often pointed out, the
UK is prospering as the world’s fifth-largest economy and has remained one of its most powerful

nations.

This means that the triumphant Brexiteers now need to fold the popular expectations they have
raised within the envelope of reality. In the near term, they may have some breathing space.
Financial markets will hopefully stabilize once they have digested this shock to their expectations.
And EU governments are unlikely to want to compound the risks to their own political and
economic situations by pushing for a rapid Brexit. Britain’s market and businesses remain fully
integrated into the EU for the time being.

But fairly quickly, Britain’s weaknesses outside the
EU will be scrutinized more carefully than they were
when it was inside, including its continuing high
annual budget deficit and growing debt, as well as its
persistently high current account deficit. Fixing these
weaknesses will require structural reforms that will
take time and may end up punishing the very voters
who believed that voting for Brexit would somehow
change their lot in life for the better.

In order to prevent a downward economic spiral and popular disappointment, the UK will need to
negotiate an exit from the EU that preserves for its economy as favorable terms of access to the
EU single market as possible. The EU market will remain by far the UK's most important, yet
these terms will not be as favorable as they are today. Immediately thereafter, the government
will need to re-negotiate bilateral trade deals with its non-EU trading partners, from the weaker
position of being the one demanding the deal. And each of those deals will need to be designed
not to conflict with its new trade agreement with the EU.

However this plays out, the UK government will need to devote enormous government and
diplomatic attention to the EU for the indefinite future – ironically, far more than it did when it was

a member.

The terms of the UK−EU agreement will not only be vital for British jobs and businesses. They will
also be central to the future of the United Kingdom. A rapid move to a new vote on Scottish
independence is unlikely. But, once Scotland gauges the sort of deal Britain has struck with the EU,

EBMC Magazine | Special Edition

EBMC MAGAZINE 16

it can go back to the people to vote for an independent Scotland to remain in the EU. Even more
complex will be the long-term arrangements for the border between Northern Ireland and the
Republic of Ireland, given that this will become the land border for those travelling into the UK from
the EU, including potential immigrants.

I wrote in May that leaving the EU would carry more risks for Britain than opportunities. I remain of
this view. The British politicians who will lead the UK out of the EU need to guard, therefore,
against allowing a yawning gap to emerge between their political rhetoric and the realities facing
Britain outside the EU. David Cameron made this mistake in the lead-up to the EU referendum,
when, as I noted at the time, his deal with other EU members to limit in-work benefits available to
EU immigrants made it impossible to deliver on his general election pledge one year earlier to
reduce net immigration to the tens of thousands.

Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage now claim June 23 was Britain’s Independence Day. In the 1996
movie of the same name, victory for humanity followed the destruction of much of the planet by an
invading alien force. Contrary to the movie script, leaders of the Leave campaign have the duty to
ensure that calamity does not follow their own decision to advocate a future for Britain outside the
EU. And we will each need to play our part to help achieve a positive outcome from this decision
for Britain and its partners.

BUSINESS
IN DUBAI

Setting up your own business can be one of the most challenging times of your life. In the UAE, would-be
entrepreneurs often face a number of obstacles once they have decided to take the leap. So whether it’s
deciding between free zone or onshore licensing, or navigating all the legal loopholes, here is a guide to
setting up a UAE business.

Plan and research

Many first-time entrepreneurs worry about
the financial investment and the time they
will have to dedicate to their business.
Once those issues are dealt with, they
reach the next stage - they are full of
energy and want to get started straight
away. This often results in rushing into the
venture without adequate planning and
then having to pay the price when things
have to be ‘fixed’ later on. Slow down, do
some research and then make a plan.

Licensing

While time is dedicated to researching the business model, investment requirements, consumer
demand and all the other factors necessary, business licensing often drop to the bottom of list.
Licensing should be prioritized and you must ensure it is done legally. Choosing the correct option
at the start will save you time and money later on. There is nothing to be gained from setting up in
one licensing authority or free zone, only to discover further down the line it doesn’t serve your
company’s needs and won’t allow you to carry out specific activities.

Location

Location isn’t simply about where you would like to set up an office, shop, or factory but more
about licensing jurisdiction. There are a number options available, from onshore, licensed by the
Department of Economic

Development (DED) in each emirate, to a growing number of free zones, often themed around
particular industries or segments. Some licensing authorities allow you to set up as a freelancer or
professional services provider. Others will limit your scope of activities so if you plan to expand

EBMC Magazine | Special Edition

EBMC MAGAZINE 18

your services in the future, make sure you are licensed in a zone or authority that allows you to
do so.

Onshore Licensing

Onshore licensing means you are licensed in DED (Department of Economic Development) and
is best suited to all types of commercial enterprises that would benefit from being set up as a
limited liability company (LLC). Examples of this might be a trading company, a logistics
company, or a manufacturing company. Local laws require that a minimum of 51 per cent of the
shares in such companies must be held by a UAE national.
The company must also take up physical office space, and may be subject to further
requirements or approvals from government departments that regulate specific industries.
Offshore means you are licensed in a free zone.

Free Zones

Free zones can offer a suitable alternative to start-ups within specific sectors. A start-up looking
to set up a manufacturing facility and export their products may consider Jebel Ali Free Zone.
Other options include Hamriyah and Ras Al Khaimah free zones. Themed free zones such as
Dubai internet City, Dubai Media City, or Dubai Design District can help start-ups within those
sectors become part of the business community.

Local partner v/s local service agent

If you decide to license onshore, everyone will tell you to find a local partner. This is not
necessarily the case. Onshore professional licenses are available for activities such as
consulting and other services, and may be owned 100 per cent by a suitably qualified foreign
national, although he or she must appoint a Local Service Agent (LSA). The LSA provides
government registration services for a fixed annual fee and has no shareholding or involvement
in the business. Such licensing also requires a physical office location.

If we silently observe the similarities in the objectives of an institution that creates, I mean the God
Almighty the creator, parents who are instrumental in creating a family and a man made

The objective of a corporation, it is to create a positive impact in the market , make successful

Objective of parents for their children that they grow

What is the objective of the Almighty for each one of
us, to create positive impact among mankind? To turn
this planet into a heaven, to co create & live happily
in good health, wealth & prosperity.
So to sum it the purpose of any creation is to create
the factor and feelings of happiness & wellness. Our
parents , our family , God Almighty, our employer , our
friends all wants us to be happy . Yet are we happy?

Are we completely happy human beings? If we are not happy individually we cannot have a happy
family. Considering a micro to a macro level. Unhappy family cannot make a happy society and an
unhappy society cannot have a happy nation. Unhappy people are often depressed and de
motivated thus affecting the productivity. Thus we see the unhappiness is like a viral.

If we look at the bigger or the macro picture in order to prosper we need to be happy individuals.
So what are the reasons that we are not happy. Some of the reasons that we discussed at our
office work shop session are poor health, unfulfilled relationship, people talking bad behind us
which is labelled as slander and defamation, then there are financial struggle, income. Our poor
relationship with friends and neighbours even with near family, and peer. For those with grown up

children faces the trial and turbulence of disobedient young kids.

The causes of many of the reasons like poor health, lack of money, poor relationships can be
ourselves. We are to an extend responsible for creating such feelings for ourselves. We cannot
change others so we need to handle things differently in order to raise a response we want. We
need to program our thoughts and words and emotions so we are in control of the situation.
We do not see from others point of view, we do not realize that the other person may have anger
issues which is beyond control, often we are caught up in the situation and environment leading to
miscommunication, verbal battle and misunderstanding within the family. Our expectations are too
high from others. For younger generation not listening to us we forget how we as adolescence had
differences with our parents, we miss out on what are called a generation gap.

We do not show enough empathy and patience and awareness
while dealing with them. We feel wearing the branded clothes
and accessories makes us look and feel the best and show off
or to be at par with our well to do neighbours and friends &
cannot match the expenses. So much so that we forget to put
on a smile on our face and forget to wrap around the shawl of
compassion, love, and patience.

We live with limiting believes that, no matter how much I

struggle I can never be rich. We feel sorry for ourselves when

the other person is abusing us. What we do not realize that
someone else calling us names do not matter to us if we know who “I am” we are what what others
think we are but we do not explore who we are, what is our purpose? What is our strengths and

weakness?

All of us have enough shopping lists but we do not have a bucket list to fulfil in our lifetime. We do
not wish to think how will people remember me as when I am gone? What values& legacy we can
leave behind. But we wish to fantasize over the gifts we want from our spouse, friend and parents.
It makes us angry and depressed when we do not get gifted with them. we fantasize a candle light
dinner and sharing a quiet moment with our spouse or partner then feel sorry when left alone to
share a meal. This is not the fault of the other person but the fault is in our thought process, in the
way we look at things. we are more concerned for what we will get then what we can give.
There are fears and phobia we live with from our childhood and do not want to overcome these
conditions.

We hate to come out of our comfort zone to explore and take up the challenge.
So the result is unhappiness and we live with it, let the feeling erode us and also what we do not
realize that we pass on these feeling to others, we behave in the similar way out of depression,
anger, fear and hurt many people dealing with us. So the cycle sets in.

But now we need to take steps to see how we can resolve these issues .It is not easy , its like
battling with your emotions. It is tough to fight with yourself. Its most difficult to control your heart
and head. The heart says cling on to the feeling , the head says let go.
It is more difficult because to be honest we can never create or even expect any such changes in
others, no matter how much you feel the other person can change. No one will change if you want

them to. Hence it is a cycle of infinity of unhappiness. The only thing that can be done is to do the
manage these feelings. But how? By practicing these 10 steps.

Step 1 Gratitude- we need to have constant gratitude. This world moves in like an pattern of

infinity. What we give we get. For sure we all have in plenty. All of us here have at least 5 great

things to thank about. To explain beautifully in the words of Oprah Winfrey” Be thankful for what
you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never,
ever have enough.” Do not live with a victim mentality, live and feel abundantly blessed.

Step 2 Forgiveness- we hold grudges for our

friends, partners, neighbours, siblings, spouse,
family and neighbours. In doing so we are harming
ourselves, we are making ourselves sad and every
time we are sad we release a harmful chemicals ,
toxins that do not get released out of the body an
causes poor health and even cancer. So we need
to forgive, if someone says bad word to you, it is his
or her problem not yours. If you are fat and
someone calls you an elephant does not make you
into one. So it is his or her problem. If there is a
genuine reason why the person is angry then take out the reason improve on it and leave alone
the bad words that accompanied it. someone played a trick with you , it is their problem.
Apologizing does not always mean that you are wrong and the other person is right. It just means
that you value your relationship more than your ego. Remember anger, resentment and jealousy
doesn’t change the heart of others– it only makes you unhappy.

Step 3 Cleanse- just as we clean our body from outside, wear clean clothes , we need to clean

ourselves from inside. Why? We have so much of deposits of unwanted feelings that releases the

bad hormones, when we are stressed, angry, jealous, hateful. Cleansing can be done through

Yoga & breathing techniques or Chakra cleaning or even crying. cleansing chakra is described in

details in my book. The secret of success to overcome recession.

Crying is as vital to our well-being as sweating. The body must release tears to self-cleanse. Just

as the ocean turns over waves to push all the grime to shore, we must too. It is part of the cycle of
life — to wash away the energies that build up inside to make way for new ones. Showing emotion

is as natural as the changing weather. A repressed being cannot flow freely with the cycle of life, if
their energies are congested or stagnant — spiritually and mentally. From time to time, one must
release the grime built up inside them to to free their emotions like the ocean.”

Suzy Kassem expresses it very truly,Guilt and fear are a kind of rot. It spreads unless it's cleaned.
And there's only one way to do that.

Ken Poirot also mentions Every day is a chance to start over with a clean slate.”
Pain is a good cleanser of the mind and therefore of the sight. Matters which seem to mean the
world, in health, are found to be of no import when pain is hard upon you.” Allow your pain to
cleanse you and burn away what needs to die.

Step 4 Energize- once we cleanse we need to energize. as we clean we need to restore a

good energy inside us, its like dressing your soul. Just like you take a bath and dress up similar we
need to energize it’s a good feeling factor. Again through yoga and chakra energizing and various
other methods like chanting holy words and phrases. Or saying affirmative words & creating at the
same time pictures in your mind, we can energize ourselves.

Energizing also to an extend means motivating. So do anything that motivates you. You can have a
mentor who can guide you, if you are unable to find a right mentor it is great option to read some
good books. You can do some motivational exercise. Thanks for great help and information that
we get from the internet. We all owe a big thanksgiving for the advance in technology that we have
made. You can go on Amazon and read my self help book, The secrets of success to overcome
the recession. There are many chapters in the book which can be of great help to you.
I am also sharing a link which is a self help with a work book. This should immensely help you if
you are to mentor yourself.

Step 5 Repent- if we do any act which is not wholesome act like stealing, verbal abusing

others, curse, selfish, cheating, fooling, cyber stealing ,hacking, cyber bullying, We need to realise

our mistakes. If done repeatedly it becomes sinful. Once we realize our mistakes , we should not

do it again and also repay for the action that you committed. We are all human, we make error is

human nature. But the ability to realize and correct your mistakes and prevent them from

happening further is what sets you apart from the rest.

Step 6 Repay- sometimes just repenting is not enough we need to repay. You need to pay

back in cash or kind for what you have done. You need to punish yourself nut not by inflicting injury
or hurt . But by educating yourself, finding better options as a preventive measure in the future and
to find a way to repay it. Sometimes it may not be easy to repay the same person with whom for
example you were mean but you can begin by being kind in remembrance to the act and be do
some act of kindness to old, orphans, dying etc. So if we have stolen we need to donate. If we
have hurt somebody we need to show more love to others.

Step 7 Take up a challenge start with a roller coaster, a swimming lesson or even by petting

your neighbours pet or better still handling the sales of your company. Going out and meeting the
challenge fulfilling the targets. This is an important management , most often what causes you
unhappy is a situation for example you are exploited at your work place. But since you are familiar
with your work , you accept it as a victim without any resistance because you do not want to loose
your job. You do not even want to quit and try for another one because you feel its very difficult to
get another job. If you know how to win out of your comfort zone this would not happen to you. This
situation can even happen at the home front with many falling victims to domestic violence. Also in
friends group when even if your friends are bullying you , you prefer to take it rather then moving
out of the group and being labelled a loner.

Step 8 Bless- we need to bless , that is give good energy to others, be understanding,

sending good wishes. We are a part of nature and we see around the mature that everything has
been created for our welfare. So we need to return the love we receive from nature, friends and
family and even enemies by way of sending a good wish or invoking God favour on them. It is
interesting that many people have questioned me why do we need to bless our enemy? Its very
simple, for sure no one wants to be near your enemy or even have the enemy focus his attention

on you. So you bless him for a life full of well being and away from you. So why not? Bless your
enemy. Life is too short and time is precious, we want to make use of time for ourselves and our
friends and family , we do not want to loose time battling , hence why not bless.

Step 9 Affirmations- we need to constantly have a positive mind frame. Have a positive

belief. We should remember that our body is intelligent , it takes information from what we hear ,
see, smell, taste and touch, So if we use a suitable phrase termed as affirmation and use it to say
as many times you can in the day or even twice a day. Your body a, mind and soul starts tuning in
to the affirmation. It creates a positive feeling in us. We start believing what we hear and visualize
again and again. Every cell in our body gets repetitive positive feedback. Let me quote you an
internet definition from http://www.successconsciousness.com/affirmations.htm of the affirmation
means Affirmations are sentences aimed to affect the conscious and the subconscious mind. The
words composing the affirmation, automatically and involuntarily, bring up related mental images
into the mind, which could inspire, energize and motivate. Repeating affirmations, and the resultant
mental images, affect the subconscious mind, which in turn, influences the behaviour, habits,
actions and reactions.

Step 10 Pray- we need to pray to our higher consciousness to give us guidance. Pray is our

connection to our higher soul. It is our way of communication to our Creator . Prayers have the
component what is called the Law of Attraction. If you want to be happy a, you pray to be happy.
We ask God for something or for something to happen or to help us from a helpless situation,
which will make us happy. We all pray to whom we belief in so we are tuning in to the channel , we
are attracting happiness.

Thus you cannot stop others hurting you, making you feel low causing you to be unhappy. You
cannot change them but you can do effective management to protect yourself from getting hurt,
change your feelings towards them .When the Lord Jesus Christ was on the cross being nailed, he
was in physical pain but He did not feel sad asking God why are they being so cruel to me, He did
not feel like cursing them or even taking revenge some day, instead He looked at it from a different
angle, He prayed for them He asked for blessing ,said, God forgive them they do not know what
they are doing” That is what made him so different from rest of the people on earth. That is why He
became our savoir. It is the toughest thing to do and no human can do. But at this time we realize
sword for a sword is not always a solution, love is not just not an act of loving kindness it is a
weapon to defend yourself, to protect yourself , it is a tool to reduce intolerance increase the
happiness around us and around the world.
