Curator Statement
The capabilities of the cellphone have increased tenfold in just a few years, resulting in the mobile
device becoming an omnipresent element in almost everyone’s day to day. This dynamic has
changed how photography looks in modern times – breathtaking imagery, no longer reserved
for professional photographers, can now be created by your elderly grandmother, your mailman,
your children, and you. Cellphone photography has become much more commonplace, and as
such has developed into an art form in its own right.

Lone Star College-Kingwood Fine Art Gallery’s 2020/Vision juried cellphone photography
exhibition aims to celebrate this innovation, showing the works of fine artists alongside
emerging talent. We hope that the college, community, and show’s photographers gain greater
insight into how art is evolving to adapt to modern technology and becoming more inclusive of
talent at all levels as a result. We hope this show will bring together more of the college’s and
Houston’s artistic community, inviting any and all to have their work judged on the same level.

Our sincerest gratitude goes out to those who submitted their works and took a chance on our
first city-wide call for submissions. We would like to also thank Angie Spargur, Jason Watson,
Rosendo Reyna, Sharon Irving-Whitfield, Jim Stubbs, and LSC-Kingwood president Katherine
Persson for their support and part in making this show a reality. We hope this is the beginning
of so much more.

- T.C. Anderson

Curator Biography
T.C. Anderson is an award-winning graphic designer at Lone Star College in Kingwood, Texas,
and curator of several exhibits at the campus’s art gallery. A four-time college graduate with
degrees in graphic design, video game design, and video & post-production, she is also a
writer and poet, with work published or forthcoming in literary journals The Metaworker and
Infinity’s Kitchen, as well as Zimbell House Publishing anthology The Dead Game. She resides
in Houston, Texas, with her husband, Jared.

Juror Statement
It was a great pleasure jurying the 2020/Vision FotoFest Biennial 2020 celebrated at Lone Star
College-Kingwood. Looking at over 150 images felt at times like reading a visual diary of those
who entered a series of four or five images. Some documented exotic sites, wild animals in
repose, or concert light shows. Others used humor to stage selfies, or highlight quirky road
signs. Still others poetically observed the sun, clouds, and insects in our midst. It was difficult
to choose just three standouts. By printing a cell phone photo, we liberate it from the user’s
pocket and share it with others in a broader context. Yet, the color and detail from the backlit
screen that lent a Rembrandt light quality to some of images was lost on paper. Therefore, I
based my top three photographs on how well they printed as well as their strong composition,
color, and evocative scenery.
