1. CINDERELLA by CHARLES PERRAULT
Written by Charles Perrault, Cinderella is a modest and good girl that early lost
her mother. Her father married another woman. Unfortunately, she was a real
example of an evil stepmother. She made Cinderella do all the hard work
around the house, but Cinderella was diligent and she didn’t mind doing it. She
kept trying to be good with her new mother and her daughters, but they refused
her. Despite her position, chores and the place where she was forced to reside,
she was still the most beautiful among the daughters. Fortunately, she had a
fairy godmother, who helped her make her wishes come true. She won the
prince with her beauty but remained modest and humble. She didn’t hold a
grudge and didn’t take revenge on his stepsisters although she had a chance.
When they prayed for forgiveness, she was gracious and forgave them
everything they did to her. That way she could enjoy life with her prince and live
happily ever after.
“Cinderella” is a famous fairy tale that almost every child knows. It is a timeless
story of the jealousy and innocence of a young girl mistreated by her stepmother
and older stepsisters. This is the story that has won the hearts of many
generations by teaching them that being humble will make them rise and win
and that being good and kind will not only be recognized but also rewarded.
The shoe symbol, which we first associate with Cinderella, tells us that there is
only one person we can love. Although we may pretend, the heart always knows
the truth. A shoe that fits a single leg is a metaphor for the unique love we can
only get from one, special person.
I love this classic tale book because the illustrations are stunning and the plot
is momentous. I give this book 5 stars. You should read it guys…..

2. IF I NEVER FOREVER ENDEAVOR – by HOLLY MEADE
This book was about a bird who didn't yet know how to fly.
The bird has to decide if it will try to fly, but it was not sure if it wants to. The
bird thought, "If I never forever endeavor", then I won't ever learn. On one wing,
he worries he might fail and on the other wing he thinks of how he may succeed.
He worries that if he tries, he may get lost in the world. That makes him want to
stay in his nest where he's safe.
I think this book would help other children to learn that trying new things can be
scary, but sometimes when we try, we can find things that make us happy too.
And this book will help others know that mistakes are okay and part of learning.
My favourite part is that the bird tried and learned that she could fly. I also liked
that I read this book because it gave me a chance to talk to mom about making
mistakes and how I don't like making them. Then I learned they are good and
part of learning.
Boys and girls who are 3 to 8 years old would like this book because it teaches
about trying a new thing and how it's important to get past being scared so you
can learn new things.
I give the book 5 stars since I think it's important for other children to learn about
courage.

3. BALL DON’T LIE by MATT DE LA PENA
The book Ball Don’t Lie by Matt de la Pena is an emotional story about urban
street basketball and a young man named Sticky, who plays it exceptionally
well. Sticky has had a very hard childhood mostly spent in a series of foster
homes where people did not care for him, hurt him, or ignored him. The book
takes us back and forth between past and present, explaining Sticky’s
defence mechanisms, his silence and toughness, and his repetitive
behaviours.
Sticky finds a family in the other street basketball players in a run down inner
city gym, where he finds his skills, his heart and his desire to move beyond
the hardships of his childhood. His relationship with his girlfriend also helps
Sticky to care and to learn to respond to another person’s caring for him. All
the characters in the book are very believable, and the exciting plot and
excellent writing kept me very interested, and I was cheering Sticky on to
make the right decisions all the way to the end. By the way, this book is
available in the school library!

4. FLESH AND BLOOD SO CHEAP by ALBERT MARRIN
I liked this book. People who are interested in national disasters and United
States’ history as well as immigration will most probably be interested in
reading this book.
Readers can gain knowledge of what it was like to work in New York City in
the early 1900s. One of the things that was especially interesting was that,
there were no safety laws at work. There was also a big contrast between
the rich and the poor. Some people may not like this book because it is very
depressing, but it is an important event in history to remember.
This book was very well written. It has black and white photos along with
descriptions of the photos. These photos give us a better idea of what
people's lives were like. This book is suitable for 9-20 year olds.
I give this book 5 stars.
