Edith Baker

Position: Secretary

Edith is continuing on as the Club’s secretary, she has been involved in the Club for 16 years. She

was born in Schaffhausen Switzerland where she lived until she started teaching in Ennenda,

Canton of Glarus for 1 ½ years. In 1971 Edith moved to Australia for 2 years, to visit her penfriend
and with the intention to go on a working holiday with her. While in Australia she met Bob and got

married and had two beautiful sons and three grandsons who have often enjoyed the functions

with the Swiss Club. She is still tutoring ESL and runs a private Alternative Healing Practice. Although

Edith has adapted to the Australian way of life, Switzerland is where her roots are and it will always
be her home.

Melanie Muller has a special connection to Switzerland with her husband being
born there. She has come to celebrate Swiss culture and its fantastic traditions,
her favourite is the tasty “Weihnachtsguetzli". Melanie is studying Health Science
(Naturopathy) full time and works part time at a marketing agency. She is looking
forward to spreading the word of Swiss people of SA with the newsletter, digital
communications and other Media. She believes in ensuring all demographic
segments within the club have their needs catered for in order to retain and
grow the Club's membership.

Isabelle Schnider

Position: Activities

Isabelle is looking after the activities for the Swiss Club, alongside Herbert Gall. She
was born in Adelaide to two Swiss parents, Maya and Martin Schnider. She spoke
only Swiss German until she started attending school. Although she has never lived
in Switzerland she has travelled and lived in Europe, America and throughout
Australia. Isabelle has a strong hospitality background, having completed a Swiss
Hotel Association Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management in 2010. She has many
contacts in the hospitality industry in Adelaide and hopes to draw on her experience
in events to make this year one of the Swiss Club's best.

Christmas
Time Hearts

These felt heart ornaments make
great gifts or even gift wrapping
accents. Follow the tutorial below, it
is too easy!

Materials:
Felt or wool
Embroidery thread and needle
Stuffing
Ribbon
Scissor, pin and tracing paper

Instructions:
1. Cut out hearts. To make a heart shaped paper pattern, fold
a piece of paper and starting at the fold, cut out one side of
the heart so that the fold is the centre of the heart.

2. Cut ribbon, ensure is long enough to hang as an ornament.
Place in between the two heart cutouts wrong sides
together.

3. Sew the hearts together. Use a blanket stitch to sew
around the outside edge of each heart. When about a one
inch opening remains, fill the heart with stuffing, then finish
stitching to close the opening.

Mix it up with a variety of fabrics and thread, you can even
recycle old jumpers. Be sure to visit Melann's Fabric and
Sewing centre who stock a wide variety of embroidery
threads, Christmas fabrics and more.
