Dear valued members,

I find this time of the year particularly interesting, it reminds me of Switzerland but for 36
some reason it always feels colder... This is a time for reflection, for hikes in the hills

A note from the editor

Sometimes there are life changes and
things get put on hold. For me that has
been the birth of my son Elliot. His arrival
has slowed me down, made me look at the
world in a simpler way and get excited by
small achievements of the day. For this
reason it has taken me a lot longer than I
had hoped to find a quiet moment to sit
behind a computer and compile this
newsletter. I hope you can understand and
enjoy this edition.

Many thanks  Welcome to the Elliot being welcomed to the world

WINTER IN
ADELAIDE

BY ISABELLE SCHNIDER

Although the winter solstice has passed and the days are
technically getting longer we are all still very much in winter
mode. Plans are made then cancelled, toes tucked cozily under
blankets and kettles are never given time between teas to cool
down. We all appear to be in hibernation, waiting for the warmer
days that we know are coming.

"...TAKE COMFORT IN THE FACT
THAT SOME THINGS IN AND
AROUND ADELAIDE ARE SIMPLY
BETTER IN WINTER"

Fortunately, just as we know summer will return, we can also take
comfort in the fact that some things in and around Adelaide are
simply better in winter...read more next page

2. A FULL BELLY

One thing that is definitely better in winter is comfort food. No heating will compare to that
warm glow that comes from within after consuming a delicious meal.

One benefit of spending so much time indoors is that there is no excuse not to try out new
slow cooked recipes. Braise that beef cheek, make Osso Buco or give Ribollita a try. Visit any
weekend farmer’s market for inspiration and just go for it.

There is almost equal joy to be gained from someone else doing the slaving in the kitchen, so if
this is more your style Adelaide has some great winter dining options too. Places with wood
ovens are the top of my list. Make a day of it and head to Russell’s Pizza on the main street in
Willunga or keep it local and try Etica on Giles street. Soups are essential too. Have a bowl of
Ramen at Black Dog Gallery or try the Laksa at Asian Gourmet at the Central Markets.

3. GETTING OUT OF THE CITY

Adelaide CBD can be particularly grey this time
of year. Rug up, jump in the car and head for the
hills.  The drive itself is spectacular and the
options once you get there are endless.
Visit the Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens for a stroll
through fern gully. Stop in at one of the many
new distilleries and try a native Gin or Amaro.
Visit Melba’s chocolate factory with the kids if
you need to entertain them during the school
holidays.

4. GETTING FAR OUT OF THE CITY

If all else fails and the winter blues become
unshakeable, there is one surefire way to put a
smile back on your face. Go on a tropical
holiday. There is nothing better than sending
pictures home of sunshine and beaches,
knowing that all your friends and colleagues
are sitting indoors looking forlornly at grey
skies just waiting for summer.
