Strengthening Our Founda on

The Rocky Mountain Conservancy exists to provide services and ehance Rocky Mountain
Na onal Park and surrounding public lands. The best way to do that is with a strong business
model and prac ces.

New Name, New Look, New Branding

To give the organiza on a much-needed faceli , we gave it a new name that more readily
reflects what we do and developed a new logo to match. The new name encompasses the
Rocky Mountain region that we serve, most significantly Rocky Mountain Na onal Park, as
well as our conserva on mission, for land, history, wildlife and learning. The new logo cap-

tures Longs Peak and the Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep as enduring iconic images.

New Website Serves and Connects

Working closely with Old Town Media, Inc. of Fort Collins, Colorado, we designed a user-friend-

ly and accessible website to connect with more people to promote our mission and ac vi es.

The new site highlights our conserva on mission and improves registra on access for Field

Ins tute classes and membership. It also has greatly improved the dona on and shopping

Building the stewards of tomorrow

Conserva on Corps Crews Increase

For eleven weeks, crews work side by side with park and forest service
professionals in Rocky Mountain Na onal Park and surrounding na onal
forests building and maintaining trails, restoring na ve habitat and learn-
ing from expert researchers and staff.

The Rocky Mountain Conservancy expanded the Conserva on Corps
program from four to six crews in 2014 as a result of increased need
following the floods in September, 2013. This increase was heavily sup-
ported by a $71,000 grant received through the Na onal Forest Founda-

on Matching Awards Program as well as from the generous Conservancy donors.

Field Ins tute Educa on Outreach Extended

Conservancy Field Ins tute classes offer hands-on learning experiences in Rocky Mountain Na onal Park. A

wide range of topics are offered annually, including wildflowers, mammals, birds, cultural history, outdoor

skills, photography, pain ng and wri ng.

In 2014, adult classes served more par cipants than in any other year prior (3956), and our kids/family

classes con nues to grow. We also held 67 outreach programs with 1777 par cipants which translates into

more custom classes and presenta ons to the public during this year than

ever before. Fun Numbers

Donors Support Flood Recovery Efforts in Rocky

A total of $50,100 was donated through the Conservancy for park flood recovery a er the 2013 flood.

While the town of Estes Park suffered signficant road damage, it was the trails and bridges in the park that

were hardest hit. These donated funds enabled the Conservancy to recruit, train and support an addi onal

Conserva on Corps crew to work alongside park staff to repair flood-damaged trails and bridges, including:
 Restora on of ¾ of a mile of old road/trail in Cow Creek Canyon
 Installa on of 14 log checks (retaining structure) and repair of 140’ of trail in Tuxedo Park
 Installa on of 25 log checks, one log water bar (water diversion structure) and repair of 135’ of the Cub Lake trail
 Replacement of 66 natural (of locally gathered materials) log checks, one natural log water bar, and

repair of 290’ of trail on the Sand Beach trail
 Construc on of 50’ turnpike (raised trail structure) at Calypso Cascades
 Replacement of bridge handrails at old Storm Pass trail head
 Replacement of 3 broken rails on Wind River hitch rack

Planned Giving Collabora ve Ini ated

The Rocky Mountain Conservancy is proud to be a founding member of the recently launched Estes
Valley Planned Giving Collabora ve, an extension of the Estes Park Nonprofit Resource Center. The
purpose of the Collabora ve is to provide informa on and assistance to individuals who donate to Estes
Valley nonprofits to help them maximize the tax benefit of current and future gi s, including estate gi s.
The Collabora ve is offering educa onal programs regarding planned and estate giving, a Gi Legacy
website, confiden al planned gi counseling, and professional assistance for making planned dona ons.

License Plate Developed to Fund RMNP Projects

This year, the Conservancy launched a pe on to gain support for a Rocky
Mountain Na onal Park Group Special Colorado license plate as a way to
promote fundraising efforts for the park. The plate was designed by the
Conservancy and was posted on an online pe on site to gather the
required 3000 signatures of support for the plate.

Centennial Film Created to Honor the Park

In celebra on of the park’s 100th Anniversary, the Rocky Mountain Conservancy signed
an agreement with Fall River Produc ons of Estes Park to develop a Rocky Mountain Na-

onal Park Centennial film. Released in January of 2015, the film was developed through
the year to capture the many seasons and abundant wildlife in Rocky. En tled “Rocky
Mountain Na onal Park: Wilderness, Wildlife, and Wonder,” this film combines stunning
visual imagery, engaging storytelling, and inspira onal interviews with the park’s ranger staff
revealing the evolu on of the park’s wilderness, wildlife and stewardship over the past
100 years.

Plein Air Event Celebrates the Park’s Centennial

The Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters, in partnership with Rocky Mountain
Na onal Park and the Rocky Mountain Conservancy, held a special plein air
paint-out, show, and sale in September to celebrate the park’s Centennial. The
events gathered 24 na onally recognized professional painters from around
the country to create artworks in the park, “en plein air,” that were displayed
at the Fall River Visitor Center. A final 41% of the proceeds from the sale of
these pain ngs went to the Conservancy to support educa onal programs
and projects. The total amount generated from the sale of the pain ngs was
$10,269, about half of which directly supported the event itself.

Looking Forward… Board Members

Celebra ng the centennial year of Rocky Mountain Na onal Bill Tindall (President)
Park’s existence easily evokes reflec on on the incredible Carmel, IN
forethought and effort of the park’s founders. In a me that
preceded even the crea on of the Na onal Park Service, our Don Cheley (Vice President)
communi es came together to advocate that these lands be Denver, CO
held in the public trust to be enjoyed by us, genera ons later.
We owe them our deepest gra tude. Doug Campbell (Treasurer)

However, the celebra on and apprecia on of the gi they gave
to us is not enough. We owe those founders, and the genera- Elizabeth Grant (Secretary)

ons that follow us, a park as beau ful and precious as what we
have inherited. A park whose trails are secure under foot and Charles Cofas
lead to true discovery; a park that welcomes all, inspiring the Estes Park, CO
young and comfor ng the aged; and most of all, a park complete
and fully protected as the founders intended. That is the charge Timothy Davis
to the Rocky Mountain Conservancy and our supporters in the Denver, CO
years to come.
Katherine Dines
The Conservancy joins the Na onal Park Service in rededica ng Denver, CO
the park for the next century by con nuing its work repairing
and maintaining trails; providing visitors with guidance and W.S. Duryea
informa on; crea ng opportuni es for discovery to our next Estes Park, CO
genera ons of park stewards; and filling the gaps in public
ownership of park lands by acquiring in-holdings from willing Howard Fry
sellers to protect the land in perpetuity. Please join with other Castle Rock, CO
park champions in not only maintaining this special place, but
also in fulfilling the dream that led to Rocky Na onal Park’s Julie Harrington
crea on 100 years ago. Denver, CO

“By suppor ng trail work through the Conserva on Corps, sponsoring interns to supplement a variety of interpre ve and educa onal ac vi es, suppor ng the
Junior Ranger program to encourage future stewards, or buying land to protect it from development, the Conservancy and its supporters have le their mark for
the benefit of future genera ons of park visitors.” — RMNP Superintendent Vaughn Baker
