Giglets Guide

Giglets is an online reading resource. Pupils will have books assigned to them to
read and may have tasks to complete related to the book.
How to access Giglets
STEP 1.
From a computer or tablet use a search engine to search for Giglets. Click on
Giglets.

OR
Use the link on our Resources and Activities Page on the school website.

STEP 2.
Click on Log In.

Pupils should now enter the school code, their
username and password which has been issued
to them. Make sure Account type is set to
Pupil.

STEP 3.
Once logged in, your child will see the screen below showing which books/tasks
has been assigned to them. If this is the first time logging on, no books will
appear in the Your Book section. The layout may be slightly different on a
tablet.

STEP 4.
To access a book for the first time, click Visit
Library.

Once in the Library, your child can choose a book to open. When they click on a
book, click Read book.

STEP 5.
The book should now open on the screen. Each book may vary slightly, but the
majority will start on the front cover. To move through the book, use the
arrows on the right and left of the book.

STEP 6.
Along the top menu, there are different options that you can use during reading.

Contents: drop-down menu to move to different pages (this is useful, if you
need to move to different pages quickly for tasks).
Font Size: click to make the text bigger, continue clicking until you are happy
with the size.
BG colour: allows you to change the background colour behind the text.

one click switches audio on, which will continue automatically on each
page until you click it again to switch it off.

allows you to search for keywords.

allows you to highlight keywords.

STEP 7.

When finished reading the book, click . This will take you back to

the screen where you can now open any assigned task. To open the task, click

Get started.

The title of the task may provide you will information on what to do as well.

STEP 8.
You will be returned to the book and along the bottom of the screen the task
bar will appear. Click Show task.
You will now see a window showing the Learning Intention, Success Criteria and
the steps you have to complete to do the task. You can move through each step
by clicking on the arrows at the side of the screen.

If you need to see the text to answer the questions, click Hide task and then
reopen by clicking Show task.

STEP 9.
When you get to the last step, complete the self-assessment (if asked to do so)
and click Task Complete or Save draft for later.

STEP 10.
This icon will return you to your book’s home page.

This will return you to your library of books.
STEP 11.
When finished, remember to log out by clicking on your
name in the top right and choose Log out from the
drop-down menu.
