A WATCH FOR EVERY OCCASION

A watch collection is not complete without at least one timepiece that is appropriate for each of the activities that dominate

our time. There should be a sports watch, a classic dress watch, something for more casual days, and a showpiece for moments

of high pretense — for ladies, an impressive jeweled watch; for men, an impressive complication. Here is a sampling of what is

new in those categories for 2018. S T Y L E STIMELESS

beveled bezel and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The silver
dial is polished with a satin finish. Behind the crystal case back, the

The pendant is one of the most

jewelry, layering is fashionable.
The same goes for bracelets, which

in both bracelets and necklaces,

link into a decorative element.

BAUME & MERCIER BREAKS NEW GROUND Round 40 mm steel
WITH THIS MECHANICAL MASTERPIECE watch with a white dial

The mechanical watch is an extraordinary distillation blue alligator strap, and

technological marvel. Imagine a car running for five years
at full speed without ever stopping, sputtering, or stalling
— no maintenance required. It would seem miraculous.
But that’s what a fine timepiece delivers.
Despite its seeming intrinsic reliability however, the
mechanical watch is impacted by a number of inherent and
external factors that can prove inconvenient. These include
sensitivity to magnetic fields, a lack of autonomy caused by the
need for frequent winding, inconsistent chronometric precision,
and the tendency for lubricants to break down causing mechanisms
to wear and require maintenance.
Baume & Mercier has for years been thinking about developing its own
mechanical movement. It was however clear right from the start that this
movement would have to feature authentic advances to counter the above
potential issues while remaining affordable.
The stars aligned to make this project possible. The manufacturing
capacity of ValFleurier (created in 2005), coupled with the establishment
of the Richemont Research & Innovation teams, which was incorporated
within Microcity in 2017, were suddenly compatible with the philosophy
and expectations of Baume & Mercier. In a nutshell, the three players in this
trio were now speaking the same language.

A standard watch requires regular time-

maintenance cycles for all Baume & Mercier
watches equipped with the Baumatic™
movement are considerably longer than for
standard watches.
Powered by a revolutionary in-house

and accurate and endowed with the best watch
technology available today.

COLLECTIONS
The MICHELE Deco is inspired by the
Art Deco period, originating in the 1920s and
characterized by clean shapes and streamlined
designs. This collection is defined by its sleek
rectangular case — with or without diamonds
— diamond-set dial and curved lugs that
sensuously hug the bracelet or strap. The watch
is available as a chronograph or as a three-hand
model, with a steel, 18k gold-plated, or two-tone
interchangeable bracelet.
The MICHELE Deco Madison collection
offers all the features of the Deco with an
additional touch of the upscale ambiance of
New York’s Madison Avenue address. The Deco
Madison displays silver- or gold-tone Roman
numerals on the diamond-set sunray dial. And
the 33 mm case, in steel, 18k gold plate, or bi-
color, includes a diamond-set bezel option to
ramp up the elegance.
This season brings the introduction of the Deco
Madison Mid, a petite sibling to the popular Deco
Madison. Measuring in at 29 mm — in steel, 18k
gold plate, or bicolor — the Deco Madison Mid
is available with or without two rows of handset
diamonds on its bezel. The collection also features
diamonds on its flawlessly polished sunray dial,
whose sumptuous color options include cashmere
and silver white. Roman numerals track the
time, and a date window is perfectly poised at
6 o’clock. An interchangeable strap or bracelet
affixes the Deco Madison Mid to the wrist.
