I am amazed at the reach Good Life Community Maga- 14 Car Clubs & Meets
zine has. I was in Jacksonville recently and someone 18 Technology & Cataract Surgery
stopped me to say, “Aren’t you the publisher of Good 22 Local Bike Trails
Life?” They recognized me! I asked how they saw the 27 Community Pix
magazine as we are not over in Jacksonville…..yet. 28 A Good Whiskey
They said they found a copy in their doctors office and 30 Local Celebrity
then started to follow us on social media. Wow, I was
so flattered. Even my dog Daphne has become well
known. Actually I have to tell you something funny. I
was walking her in Gainesville and someone ex-
claimed…. “That’s Daphne from Good Life Communi-
ty Magazine!” They then said to me, “that dog is fa-
mous, I know her from that magazine. What a nice dog, you must be walking her for the owner”.
Obviously this nice lady had no idea who I was…lol. So I am upstaged by my beautiful dog. I must
say that Daphne is a great ambassador for Alachua County Animal Services as I adopted her from there
many years ago and highly recommend you visit the shelter to adopt your fur baby. They have so
many dogs and cats of all ages and sizes. Just tell them, Daphne sent you!

I think this issue has to be one of our best. I admit I was terrified of writing a medical story due to my
past history of fainting at the sight of blood, but I came away with a great knowledge of technology
that left me feeling intrigued to know even more. Amazing how far the medical world has come.
Physicians like Dr. Snodgrass, at North Florida Cataract Specialist and Vision Care, and Dr. Cherylle
Hayes at The Cancer Center, at NFRMC, are using mind blowing, futuristic devises to cure diseases.

Another big reason I love this issue is…the car stuff! You all know I am a HUGE car freak. I think of
a car as I would a piece of art. I even started my own Facebook page and Instagram, just so you can
follow my automotive journey, called, #Powr_Grl. I find the people I meet at car events fascinating.
The other interest I have is fashion. I hope you enjoy the read and that it inspires you to pull out your
bright festive colors to wear this summer but leave the Katie Perry chandelier at home!

Enjoy your copy of Good Life, and go out there with the top down on your car, and the wind in your
hair, and live like there is no tomorrow. Make it YOUR…Good Life!

Do your Wisdom Teeth Hurt?

Wisdom Teeth, or Third Molars, are usually the last teeth to develop and appear in the mouth. They
are called “Wisdom Teeth” because they usually appear during a person’s late teens or early twenties,
which has been called the “age of wisdom.” The normal position for developing wisdom teeth is behind
the upper and lower second molars. However, often times the mouth does NOT have enough room for
these extra teeth and they become impacted. This can lead to very serious
dental health and medical problems such as pain, infection, crowding of teeth,
cyst development, loss of other teeth, or development of pathologies that
could lead to more serious surgery. In fact, for nine out of ten people, at least
one wisdom tooth remains under the gum tissue due to lack of space in the
mouth. Proper treatment of wisdom teeth involves their removal using special
surgical techniques appropriate for each individual case. Wisdom teeth are
best treated by a specialist, like an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental Implants are titanium anchors placed in the jawbones, underneath the gum tissue,
to support artificial teeth where natural teeth are missing. Dental Implants are actually
placed in the jawbones, and don’t require removal like regular dentures or partials, nor do
they require the removal of natural tooth structure like crowns and bridges. They look and

function like natural teeth. Dental Implants can be used to replace a
single tooth, multiple teeth, or even hold dentures in place, eliminating
the need for denture adhesives. Dental Implants can restore normal
eating and speaking abilities, and enhance your facial appearance and confidence.
Dental Implants are best placed by a specialist, like an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon,
working closely with your restorative or general dentist.

Summer 2019
Did you see the Met Gala? The

event was held at the famous
New York Metropolitan Mu-
seum of Art, hence the name,
Met Gala. This event started in 1948 and
is the biggest fundraising fashion event
of the year. It raises money for the Met’s
Costume Institute. The 2019 theme was
“Camp,” which was inspired by Susan
Sontag’s 1964 essay that defines camp as
“love of the unnatural: of artifice and exag-
geration.” And in true Hollywood style the
stars dazzled us with outrageous costumes

on the red carpet. We saw a lot eye popping color and glitter, and this will be
reflected in the stores for your summer of 2019 wardrobe.

You will be shocked to know that the 1980’s Laura Ashley style florals are back,
along with big puffy sleeves and…shoulder pads! Hmm, memories of Dallas
and Dynasty days are ahead!

I also hate to break it to you, but the 1990 punk rock style, neon colors, mixed with a splash of
animal print and/or polka dots is also back! The idea is to mix the floral prints with a solid block
of color. So a flowery skirt can be paired with a lime green shirt.

Personally, I like block colors, meaning I like ev-

as it is very body flattering. If you are on the short
side block colors can give you the appearance of
seeming taller. A great way to use the new fashion
trend is to accent with a floral or animal print belt
or a colorful accessory. The great news here is that
you can style the season to your own taste.

made and to buy one, not only do you have to have
about $500,000.00 but you also have to put in an
application that includes a video of what you plan to
do with the car. In the application it asks if you own
a Ford, and if you use Fords in your business, and
if you are a social media influencer. If you are lucky

lent, trained staff with respect to many of our staff being certified NorthFloridaVision.com
in their specific positions, for example; Certified Ophthalmic
Assistants, Certified Ophthalmic Technicians, Certified Oph-
thalmic Medical Technologist and Certified Opticians.

What services do you offer?

We offer a full range of services from General Exams for glasses
and fitting of contact lenses, to Cataract Evaluation for possible
cataract surgery, as well as testing for various eye diseases, to
include Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and detailed testing
and treatment for Dye Eye Disease. The practice also specializes
in Microinvasive Glaucoma Surgery as a surgical alternative
to glaucoma eye drops. A laser to treat floaters is available to
our clients as well. And don’t forget that we also have two retail
optical shops for a wide range of frames for you to choose from.

What don’t people know about cataract sur-
gery?

Generally people don’t understand that a cataract is a cloudy lens
inside the eye as opposed to a growth on the surface of the eye.
We take the cloudy lens out of the eye and replace it with an in-
traocular lens. That intraocular lens has the ability to correct the
need for glasses and correct underlying refractive errors, includ-
ing myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. These lenses can also be
multifocal lenses which can often allow a patient to be spectacle-
free.

If a patient is nervous about a procedure, how
can you help?

The number one way we can help decrease a patients fear is to
help educate them about what the underlying disease process is,
or what the underlying malfunction of their visual function might
be, and what our treatment method is for their underlying prob-
lem. For instance, when a patient is going to have cataract surgery
we want the patient to understand what they have, how we are go-
ing to remove the cataract and replace it with an intraocular lens.
We let them know we will be starting an IV and we will be giving
them medication to decrease their anxiety and make their surgery
as comfortable as we possibly can, and many times patients don’t
remember any of the specifics of their surgical procedure.

Chances are, the whiskey you were drink-

introduced to flavors of good single malt
Scotch whisky, blended Scotch and ex-

is a smooth and flavorful whisky with a
pleasant aroma. For my Scotch appetite,
I prefer the Speyside Scotch, with a me-

I love the double barrel aging with an
