As we head into the fall season, our worship ministry begins to ramp up to bring special things to our services during both the
Holiday season and the 2020 Winter Conference. In addition to our weekly worship team, including both vocalists and band, we
add our seasonal choir. This year we are looking for many new people to join us as we sing and worship during a special Christmas
outreach weekend December 7-8. Our choral ensemble is open to all adults and students ages 13 and older. Instrumentalists are
always being sought for both the weekend services and these special events. There is a place for you. If you are interested, please

FRIDAY 6PM FREE DINNER

SATURDAY 8:30AM PRAYER BREAKFAST

Our 2020 Winter Conference speaker will be Steven Barr, Pastor
of Cast Member Church at Walt Disney World. CMC is a church
plant of the Evangelical Free Church of America reaching the
people from around the world who come to work at the Disney
Parks. Seven years ago, Steven and his family made a commitment
to be a light of hope to those who knew little or nothing about
Jesus. They purposed to build a community among the 74,000 cast
members that make the magic happen at the four major theme parks, two water parks, 24 hotels, golf courses, and campground that
constitute what we know as Disney. Steven Barr has done groundbreaking work in developing missional communities within the
"city" of Disney, where work schedules often prevent traditional church involvement. Steven Barr and members of Cast Member
Church are deeply involved in intercessory prayer-walking within the Disney Parks with a goal to have believers praying in every
park, 365 days a year.
Steven Barr is the author of "A Guide to a Life Beyond Imagination," which focuses on the "Quest Compass," a tool for evange-
lism and spiritual guidance that is transferable into almost any situation or friendship. Make plans now for this exciting weekend!

speaking truth

One thing that can be said of the Bible is that it is full of truths. These truths cover every aspect of our lives, not just our spiritual lives but
our personal lives as well. As I read through the Bible, I am reminded of the truth that Scripture reveals pertaining to finances. Even though
these verses were written over 2,000 years ago, in a different era, with an economy that was based upon completely different principles, these
words still ring true.

In today's world, it seems there isn’t much good news with reference to personal finances. Many people are stretched thin and money is tight.
According to some recent polls, only 39% of Americans are able to cover the cost of a $1,000 emergency, and 21% of Americans have no
savings for retirement. The Bible, however, reveals things that most financial advisors are sharing with clients today. The common advice today
is to budget for your expenditures and to live within that budget. One of the key elements of that advice is to make sure that your budget
includes emergency funds and money for retirement. I understand that there are varying reasons for people neglecting to save, and it is not
always due to poor financial planning. I do know that the Bible talks about this phenomenon evident in today economy. Ecclesiastes 5:10-11
gives us some insight into this:

10 He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity. 11 When goods
increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes?

David Guzik explains these Scriptures this way: “What is worse than the addiction that money brings, is the emptiness it leaves.” He contin-
ues with, “Friends and flatterers will flock to a rich man, as crows do to a dead carcass, not to defend, but to devour.”

Scripture tells us that money will not bring us any happiness, and in reality, the people drawn to our money are mainly there to consume it.
Proverbs 21:20 goes on to tell us that:

Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man’s dwelling, but a foolish man devours it.
Proverbs 28:20 tells us:

A faithful man will abound with blessings, but whoever hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.

So as hard and direct as these Scriptures are, they do reveal truths. First is that money and wealth will not bring us happiness and satisfaction.
Secondly, people will seek us out because of our wealth, not to help us, but devour our wealth. Thirdly, if we are foolish with the blessing and
abundance that God has given us, we devour it and waste it. Lastly, if we make it “our” desire to gain wealth, then we will ultimately fail.

Wealth is not a bad thing, but having the wrong attitude, or obsessing over it, can cause us problems. When this happens, it also becomes a
hindrance in our spiritual life. If we are wise and faithful, then we open up the ability for God to show abundant blessing in our lives.

My hope is that you take this advice from Scripture, and be wise and faithful with the blessing that God has given to you. Paul in 2 Corinthi-
ans 8:7 admonishes the Corinthians:

But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this
act of grace also.

This act of grace that Paul is talking about it the act of giving generously. By Paul using the word grace to describe
financial giving, he is adding meaning and importance to our giving. As David Guzik explains it:

a. Our ability to give and the heart to give is a free gift from God. Giving is a work of God’s grace in us.
b. Our giving should be like God’s giving of grace to us: giving freely, generously, because you want to give.
c. Our giving, like God’s grace to us, should be offered without expectation of payment in return.
d. By centering our giving in this lovely word grace, it lifts the whole act away from mechanics, pressure,

duty, obligation, and legalism.

What a beautiful description of our giving! The truth revealed in all of this is that we give, not out of duty or obliga-

tion, but we give because it is a reflection of God’s love and grace for us. We are faithful in our giving and are good PASTOR PAUL W. REECE
stewards of His blessing because it shows others the love of Christ in our heart and the change that His redemptive work executive pastor

has done for us.
