STEM IMPLEMENT IN MALAYSIA

STEM has been embedded in the Malaysian Curriculum starting 2017 in
the Secondary School Standard Curriculum (Curriculum Development
Division, 2016). As one of the pillars in the curriculum, STEM is expected to
produce students with science literacy that can be fitted for the STEM related
job demand. Teachers as the backbone in this process require knowledge of
content, teaching skills and values in implementing STEM at schools.

This was due to lack of information from the authorities. There are some
barriers highlighted in this study which are motivation, syllabus, time
constraints, lack of training, inadequate facilities, students’ involvement
and school community response.

Cultivating a culture that values STEM at an early age is essential to
increase awareness of the importance of STEM in the society. Malaysia
puts the importance of STEM education at the early childhood with the focus
to trigger and fostering student interest through activities that can stimulate
curiosity.

The rapid rise of jobs related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
(STEM) have caused many schools to rethink the relevance of their curricula and

introduce several exciting new elements.

STEM Education and Entrepreneurship:
5 Big Skills that Overlap

Actionable skills
- Adaptability & Flexibility
- Persistence (KBAT)
- Creativity
- Teamwork
- Data above everything

Knowledge to actually perform the STEM task set before them — whether it’s
coding or designing a building — is invaluable.

MOONSHOTS IN MALAYSIA (cont.)

The specialty of Moonshots is it has
Entrepreneurship element. This is because STEM
in Malaysia is not focusing on entrepreneurship skill
because during the learning of STEM, they only
have essential skills such as critical thinking ,
communication and others.

The future of student is going to be competitive and
only those who can create and sell innovative ideas
will rise above the rest.

Notes :
