Precedent Study
Spring 2016
RCR Arquitectes were giv-
en the task to transform a
historical building into a
modern house. Two corri-
dors on the sides delimited
by steel slats that created
an immense central space
divided into different lev-
els and heights. The min-
imalism of its shapes and
the materials used high-
light the massive volume
and the original organiza-
tion of the living space.

Theater/Gallery 1 BACK ELEVATIONS
Spring 2016 81''=1'-0''
The project idea was to 2FRONT ELEVATIONS
demolish the existing 81''=1'-0''
buildings on both sides of
the theatre, and to rebuild 1 CROSS SECTION
them in order to expand 81''=1'-0''
their art gallery, back of 2FRONT ELEVATIONS
stage, and the classrooms 81''=1'-0''
for the after-school pro- 1 CROSS SECTION
grams. The proposal re- 81''=1'-0''
quired more daylight and
storage for both set de- 2CROSS SECTION
sign and the ever-expand- 81''=1'-0''
ing art collection. One of
the major guidelines was
that the theatre was not to
be touched, because it is a
Texas landmark. The main
feature of my design was
to bring natural light by
punctuating the roof and
front facade with hexa-
gons that differed in size.

SPACIAL CLUSTERS
Part to Whole
Fall 2016
The spatial cluster proj-
ect starts with basic
components, which grow
into a surface and final-
ly construct a space.
The goal of the project
was to design a cluster
of components that cre-
ate a space defined by a
whole, which come from
the flow of repetition. The
design was composed by
a sphere wrapped with
half angled rectangles.

Precedent Study
Fall 2016
The site had been illegal-
ly occupied by 97 fami-
lies since the 1960’s, who
they rehoused on the
same 5,000 square me-
tre site. In order to save
money, the social hous-
ing was proposed a ‘half-
a-house’ that was essen-
tially the core of a home,
the half that the residents
couldn’t build on their
own. In the vacant half,
the family would have
the opportunity to ex-
pand their own home,
configuring the space
however they desired.

Precedent Study
Fall 2016
The building is a 35 meter
cube, which is enclosed
only by external structur-
al walls. These walls are
punctured by numerous
squares that differ in size.
These openings filter
the light and view from
the surrounding facto-
ry landscape, softening
the transition between
exterior and interior.

FROM PART TO
WHOLE
Stratford, Texas
Object to Field
Fall 2016
The first step of the proj-
ect was to find any in-
tersection in wide rural
Texas and connect the
ideas of paths and plac-
es to a geometrical and
organizational analysis.
The idea was to create a
generic cluster to merge
the ideas of place and
object. Also, to design
a grounded spatial clus-
ter as an aggregation
of cells which include a
geometrical concept, cir-
culation and movement,
figure and ground, solid
and void relationships.

URBAN HYBRIDS:
VIENNA
Vienna, Austria
Precedent Study
Fall 2016
Vienna has been among
the top “most livable
cities” in the world for
many years now. A hy-
brid building is a combi-
nation of several different
typologies within one
building. On the given
site, one had to design
a combination of public,
semi-public and private
spaces. A gallery, metro
station and a Viennese
coffee house melt to-
gether in my design pro-
posal. After the Viennese
succession, ornaments
were reinterpreted and
columns became a rect-
angular prism. For this
reason, my proposal was
inspired by the idea of
“what a column could
be like today”. A col-
umn that can not only be
structural but also a light
concept, roof concept,
façade concept and be-
come an ornament to the
building itself.

Urban Study Nuremberg
Spring 2017
The first step of the proj-
ect was to pick a city,
then pick a square mile
within the city. One had
to analyse the city by
mapping different as-
pects and uses. Some of
the required maps were
a figure ground, pat-
terning, paths, and civic
buildings.
After analyzing the city,
one had to pick anoth-
er city that had already
been analyzed. In ad-
dition, one had to do a
more in depth analysis of
one’s city, and begin to
undertand how it could
combine with and/or fold
into the other city. The fi-
nal model demonstrates
the combination of Bue-
nos Aires and Nurem-
berg.
