or. “The Black Taj Mahal.”
2. Did you know that the Taj Mahal and the Gol Gumbaz were both
constructed roughly around the same time in the 17th century?

1. The Golden Temple is open to all religions, caste, and creed. This
sacred gurudwara is open to all faiths. There are four entrances to the
temple which show openness to all devotees irrespective of caste,
creed, and religion.

2. The pool surrounding the Golden Temple is known as the Amrit
Sarovar which is considered sacred by the devotees. Before offering
prayers, they bathe in the holy water of the Sarovar.

1.Delhi’s Jama Masjid was built at the behest of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between
1644 and 1656, and a mammoth 1 million rupees were spent on it back then.
2.Jama Masjid is, currently, the largest mosque in the world and has the capacity to
accommodate a whopping 25000 people in its courtyard, and a total of 85000 people on
its premises.

1. For building of the Taj Mahal, the white marble was taken from Makrana,
Rajasthan. The Jasper was purchased from Punjab. Jade & Crystal were bought
from China. Turquoise was from Tibet, the Lapis Lazuli was purchased from
Afghanistan, Carnelian from Arabia and the Sapphire stone from Sri Lanka.

2. There are no vehicles allowed within 500m radius of Taj Mahal.

1.The doorway to the cave is decorated with auspicious motifs and the cave has
many sculptures and paintings of Bodhisattvas Padmapani and Vajrapani; carvings
of princesses, lovers, maids and dancing girls; scenes depicting the Persian
Embassy, Golden Geese, Pink Elephants and Bull Fights.
2.Various incidents from the life of Gautam Buddha and the Jataka Tales are
represented and recreated on the walls of these caves.

Konark Sun Temple

Materials used- Chloride, Laterite, Holdenite

Significance- The temple was actually conceived to symbolize the

emergence of Sun God with 12 pairs of wheels and seven horses
(representing 7 days of a week and 12 months of a year). This was in
line with Hindu mythological traditions.

Features-The Sun Temple in Konark exhibits the traditional Odisha
style of architecture, also known as Kalinga architecture, on a grand
scale. It is designed as a massive chariot mounted on 12 pairs of
intricately carved giant stone wheels that are drawn by a set of seven
mighty stone horses.

to a height of 56 meters
