Leeper Park Tennis Center, a facility of the South Bend Venues Parks
& Arts, is located in the heart of downtown South Bend in historic
Leeper Park. With 14 fully-lit tennis courts, men’s and women’s locker
rooms and air conditioned snack bar and club house, it is one of the
best tennis facilities in northern Indiana. We are easily accessible just
off of north Michigan Street, north of Memorial Hospital and south of
the St. Joseph River. Contact us for more information!

Regular Season: June 5-August 25, 2017
Monday-Friday: 8:00am-8:00pm
We welcome open court time in the off-seasons, however, available hours will
vary based on St. Joseph High School Boys and Girls Tennis practice and match
schedules.

Please Note: Weekend open court hours vary based on tournament schedules - please call in
advance for available court times.

FACILITY RENTAL
Leeper Tennis Center is available to rent for tournaments, tennis matches,
tennis fundraisers, etc. based on availability.
Rental fee: $200 per day plus $12/hour for the building supervisor

Hourly rates are available on a case by case basis (please call for more information on hourly
rates). Concession is not available to rent however Leeper Tennis Center retains the rights to
open concession during events.

YOUTH

LESSONS & DATES

Youth lessons are offered weekly. Participants may sign up for as many weeks
as they like; those attending multiple weeks will be identified and will receive
progressive lessons curriculum. Families enrolling two or more children or
registering for two or more weeks will receive a 10% discount.

Missed/Cancelled Lesson Policy: We are pleased to provide several options for missed and/or
cancelled lessons. Please visit our website at www.sbvpa.org for more information on the Missed/
Cancelled Lesson Policy. This information is also available to pick up at Leeper Tennis Center and is
included in the Parent Information Packet.

NEW PLAYER PACKAGE (AGES 3-8)
Includes a new age-appropriate racquet and racquet bag from Penn/Head.
Fee: $35 ($75 retail value)

PEE WEE TENNIS (AGES 3-4)
Times: 8:30-9:00am or 3:15-3:45pm (30 minute sessions)
Youth size racquets and nets are used with foam balls to encourage success. These
lessons focus on developing large motor skills and eye-hand coordination with
games and activities geared to teach beginning form and technique.
Min 5/Max 20
Fee: $40 per week

LITTLE SHOTS (AGES 5-8)
Times: 9:15-10:00am or 4:00-4:45pm (45 minute sessions)
Age appropriate racquets and nets as well as low compression balls on
smaller courts are used with this age group to encourage rallying and success!
These lessons will focus on developing large motor skills, increased eye-hand
coordination, development of technique, proper form, and positioning.
Min 5/Max 25
Fee: $40 per week

BEGINNERS (AGES 9-12)
Times: 10:15-11:15am or 4:45-5:45pm (60 minute sessions)
Basics of tennis are taught, from ground strokes and volleys to scoring and serves.
Green stage balls will be used for better stroke production and play.
Min 5/Max 25
Fee: $40 per week

INTERMEDIATE (AGES 13-17)
Times: 4:45-5:45pm (60 minute sessions)
Great for all skill levels! Players will learn the basic fundamentals with the goal
for players to hold a rally, match play and learning how to keep score. Basics are
covered with a focus on technique development.
Min 5/Max 20
Fee: $40 per week

new PLAY WITH ME - PARENT/CHILD TENNIS*

We heard your concerns regarding wait times during lessons and are
pleased to offer this great new program! Parents and their children ages
2-12 will be able to enjoy tennis focused games and activities during
siblings tennis lessons!
Fee: $3/child drop in fee; $12/week when you register in advance!

*This program is available during all regularly scheduled youth tennis lessons.

Please Note: Parents are REQUIRED to stay with their children at all times while in the Play With
Me area. All equipment provided. An instructor will be available to answer questions.

new PRIVATE LESSONS & CUSTOM DRILLS

Leeper Tennis Center is now offering private tennis lessons! Private lessons are
a great way for anyone at any skill level to sharpen their skills and improve their
game. Our private lessons are taught by qualified, knowledgeable staff on the
courts at Leeper Tennis Center.

8 years & under (30 minute sessions) Fee: $25/session
9-10 year olds (45 minute session) Fee: $25/session
11-14 year olds (60 minute session) Fee: $35/session
Adults (15+) (60 minute session) Fee: $40/session

Please Note: Due to safety concerns, we ask that all children not engaged in tennis lessons please
refrain from playing on other courts or throwing/hitting balls in the viewing area. We appreciate your
cooperation as we strive to keep everyone safe. Space is limited! To schedule your lesson, please call
Leeper Tennis Center at 574-235-9405. Private lessons are offered on a first come, first served basis
based on instructor availability. Group lessons are also available; please call to inquire about rates
and availability.

PRE-SEASON TENNIS CAMP (AGES 5-12)
Dates: June 13-June 15
Time: 9:00am-3:00pm*
We have three days of fun, games, activities and TENNIS planned for you!! Kick off
the season with our Pre-Season Tennis Camp; this camp is for kids ages 5-12 of all
skill levels. *Drop off time is 8:45-9:00am; pick up time is no later than 3:15pm. A late fee of $5

for every 5 minutes past 3:15pm will be assessed.
Min 8/Max 20
Fee: $90/child

Please Note: Racquets are available for use during camp, however participants are encouraged
to bring their own. Campers are required to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and sack lunch. Camp
will run rain or shine - in the event of rain, games, activities and skill drills will take place in the
clubhouse. Camp fee includes daily drink and snack.

POST-SEASON TENNIS CAMP (AGES 5-12)
Dates: August 7-August 11
Time: 9:00am-3:00pm*
Join us for a fun filled week of tennis instruction, games, activities and skill level
match play! This camp is for all skill levels. Racquets are available for use during
camp, however participants are encouraged to bring their own. Campers are
required to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and sack lunch. Camp will run rain or
shine - in the event of rain, games and skill drills will take place in the clubhouse.
Camp fee includes daily drink and snack, camp t-shirt and participation medal.

*Drop off time is 8:45-9:00am; pick up time is no later than 3:15pm. A late fee of $5 for every 5
minutes past 3:15pm will be assessed.
Min 8/Max 20
Fee: $150/child (Register in person or over the phone to receive a 10% discount* per child when
registering multiple children from the same family.

Please Note: Racquets are available for use during camp, however participants are encouraged
to bring their own. Campers are required to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and sack lunch. Camp
will run rain or shine - in the event of rain, games, activities and skill drills will take place in the
clubhouse. Camp fee includes daily drink and snack, camp t-shirt and participation medal.

Registration: Beginning April 1; online at www.sbvpa.org, by phone at 574-299-4765 or in person
at O’Brien Recreation Center. Must be registered by the deadline to receive the t-shirt.

new MID-COURT SUMMER TENNIS LEAGUE (GRADES 6-9)
Dates: June 19-July 10
Times: 5:45-6:45pm
In partnership with the South Bend Community School Corporation, we’re excited
to offer this new program for kids of all skill levels entering grades 6th-9th for the
2017 school year (participants do not have to be enrolled in a SBCSC school to
be part of this league). Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of the game,
strokes, serves and play strategies through a mix of drills and match play where
sportsmanship is always stressed. This six week program will include two practices,
one match per week, and end with a league tournament at Leeper Tennis Center.
Min 8/Max 30 per location
Fee: $43

Tennis Center. Registration fee includes all instruction and tournament fees as well as a new racquet.

SATELLITE SITES
Dates: June 12 - July 27
The South Bend Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer FREE
Tennis Lessons at area parks. Lessons are geared for ages 5 and up with the goal of
learning a new sport, improving skills, staying active and having fun!

Monday & Wednesday Tuesday & Thursday

St. Clair Park (Belleville): Boehm Park: 10:30-11:35am
10:15-11:10am Coquillard: 11:45am-12:40pm
Kennedy: 11:30am-12:30pm Riverside Manor Park: 1:00-2:00pm

Please Note: There is no registration required, just come out and play! Participants are required to
wear gym shoes to be able to play. Lessons and locations are subject to change. No lessons if it rains
or in extreme heat. Equipment will be provided however you may bring your own. Participants are
encouraged to bring water.

END OF SEASON PLAY DAY!
Date: July 27
Time: 12:30am-2:00 pm
All youth participating in the Satellite Site program are invited to an End of Season
Play Day at Leeper Tennis Center!

COMPETITION AND MATCH PLAY

PIE SEIFERT MEMORIAL
Dates: May 20-21
Events for the entire family including child/parent divisions.
Register online at usta.com. USTA membership is required to participate in this event.

new LEEPER PARK TEAM TENNIS (AGES 7+)
Dates: June 20 - July 18 (No classes the week of July 4)
Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays (two practices per week)
Times: 5:00-6:00pm
Leeper Tennis Center is now offering Team Tennis for kids ages 7 and up who
are interested in tournament play. Team Tennis will include competition,
developmental training focusing on agility, strength, and team play, strategy as well
as non-advancing competitive play. This is a great opportunity to advance your
skills and learn to play as a team.

Red Ball Team: Ages 7-8
Orange Ball Team: Ages 9-10
Green Dot Team: Ages 11+
Fee: $75 (includes entry in the Junior Metro)

*no discount available if participant chooses to not play in Metro

Please Note: You must be able to hold a rally, have good tracking skills, be willing to learn to keep
score and interested in competitive match play. Players will initially be placed by age but may move
based on skill level at the instructor’s discretion.

JUNIOR METRO CHAMPIONSHIPS
Dates: July 21-23

Leeper Tennis Center. USTA membership is NOT required to participate in these events.

ADULTS

USTA START/RESTART PROGRAM (AGES 15+)
Dates: June 12 - June 28 and/or July 10-August 9 (no class 8/1)
Times: 5:30-6:30pm
Interested in learning to play or maybe you used to play and need to brush up on
your skills? Join our USTA Adult Start/Restart Program at Leeper Tennis Center!
Quality instruction in a low-stress, fun social environment. Drop in when you can or
register for the entire session and save!
Drop in fee: $8 per person/per lesson
Session fee: $42 per person ($14 savings)
