Process Constitution
Impeachment process
Johnson became the first president impeached by the House, but he was later
acquitted by the Senate by one vote. The Constitution gives the House of
Representatives the sole power to impeach an official, and it makes the Senate
the sole court for impeachment trials.
How a bill becomes a law
These are the steps in the lawmaking process. A bill may begin in either the
House or the Senate except for money bills, which must be introduced in the
House. 1. Bill is Drafted Members of Congress, the Executive Branch, and even
outside groups can draft (write or draw up) bills.
How to Amend the Constitution
The Constitution provides that an amendment may be proposed either by the
Congress with a two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives
and the Senate or by a constitutional convention called for by two-thirds of the
State legislatures.
Five principles of Government
● Principle 1- Popular sovereignty Power by the people, such as when we elect officials, or when we
vote on laws. Examples include, electing Obama, or the recent mil
levee that was shot down
● Principle 2 -LImited government Power by the people, such as when we elect officials, or when we
vote on laws. Examples include, electing Obama, or the recent mil
levee that was shot down
● Principle 3 - Separation of power The government is broken into three branches. The executive (the
● principle 4 -checks and balances. president) enforces the law, the legislative (congress) makes the law, and
● principle 5 - federalism the Judicial (supreme court) interprets the law. They are governed by
checks and balances to keep them from becoming more powerful than the
others
The separation of power needs to be regulated. This system provides
each branch with power over the others. The president can veto laws
made by congress, and congress can impeach the president by 2/3 vote.
The balance between National Government and State Government. The
Government can't decide on gay marriage, the states decide that for
themselves.
