Bunching O n io n
Ne gi
TM Negi is Bunching Onion grown by traditional Japanese style; in
deep soil. Its long silky white shank is thick and rich in flavor. It is
fantastic for grill, BBQ, Yakitori... etc, which will give crispy outer
layer and melty sweet core. It goes with meat, fish, and all sorts
of vegetables without ever being blunt. Negi is also perfect condi-
ment for soup (including Ramen and other noodle dishes) when cut
in fine pieces. It truly goes with everything, and will fuse wonder-
fully with any culinary tradition.

TSX-513 Slow bolting. Fast growing. For spring harvest.
TSX-175 Slow bolting. Long harvesting period from autumn to early summer. High yield.
Ne gi
The long white shank of Negi grows in the soil. Traditionally, Japanese farmers use a specific earthing up technique for Negi. They create
ridges of earth and a foot deep grooves, transplant the seedlings into them, and earth the plant up gradually. The height of the mound
accompanies the plant growth to ensure Negi has a long white base. The ideal size in the Japanese market is 30 cm x 2 cm white shank
with 30 cm green leaf.
Negi trial in Mexico. Transplanted into the groove (left) and earthed up until ready to harvest (right)
We would like to introduce the simplest and easiest alternative method following the leek production technique. First, make holes -
about 15 cm deep - in the soil with a rod or a leek hole punching machine. Then, put the seedlings gently into holes when they reach
pencil thickness. The length of the white shank will depend on the depth of the hole. Thus, if you want a longer white shank, you can
either make a deeper hole or earth the plant up to your desired length as it grows. Although the growing period will depend on the variety
and the season, Negi can be harvested one month earlier than leek on average.
