do by themselves for the City of Deer Park. You might ask
yourself, “What does he mean?”, so let me explain.

The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce is the business
community focused on working together to enhance the
economic vitality of our members and the quality of life in
Deer Park. As a member, this is YOUR Chamber of Commerce.
We want to be considered your most valuable, yet lowest
paid employee; taking as much interest as a partner but
leaving you to be the boss. Many business and professional
executives voluntarily work on committees to improve your
business opportunities and living enjoyment in Deer Park.

In serving businesses interested in doing business in Deer Park, we
are devoted to activities designed to create more community wealth.
We collectively look for solutions to your business concerns in order

to make your business prosperous.

The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce serves as a clearinghouse
of information for prospective industrialists, visitors, potential and
current residents, and area businesses who are interested in learning

more about working, playing and living in Deer Park.

Through this collaborative effort your Chamber of Commerce is
working daily as an organization with a definite “know-how” in
community development. If you are not yet a member we would

Comments

WOW, So where do we start as we reflect on the past few weeks of
the start of the Summer? We RECENTLY wrapped up a very successful
4th of July celebration recognizing the 125th anniversary of the City of
Deer Park. As you know, it was more than just fun and games and a big
fireworks display to wrap things up. We were honored to have with us
the great grandchildren of Simeon West, the founder of Deer Park. It was
a special time for them to see where some of their roots originated from;
as well as to see and hear them tell stories from what had been passed
down to them about their great grandfather Simeon.

Then the previous week we celebrated our Deer Park HS State
Champions Boys Baseball Team with a parade down Center Street and
a community celebration at the high school with about 500 fans in
attendance. There were local and state officials, coaches, past DPHS ballplayers from other state playoff
teams and even had our very own Astro/Yankee Andy Pettitte speaking and in attendance. What a GREAT
evening for our state champs, school district and the City of Deer Park.

Now onto other important news, If you haven’t heard yet, our new App “That’s DP” just won one of the top
spots with the State Chamber of Commerce as BEST Social Media Apps. There is a reason it won and all you
have to do is check for yourself and download it. You will find yourself using it almost daily because it’s easy

and so much information at your finger tips;
including things to do, where to eat, shop and so
much more.

Wrapping up the list of accomplishments is our
June membership meeting event, which was
a first because we turned it into a breakfast
networking meeting at Luby’s. For our first
meeting of its kind it was very successful. Since
we had so many positive comments about
the meeting format, we will be having more
membership breakfast meetings in our near
future.

From The Editor

Deer Park is a truly unique community. Nestled between native
grasslands and glistening refineries, and only minutes away from
one of the largest cities in North America, there is no shortage of
recreation around these parts!

In this edition of That’s Deer Park, explore what our diverse
region has to offer. With the rising cost of long-distance travel
“staycations” are becoming a popular option for families and
those looking to simply disconnect for a short period. What is
available to you in your own backyard may surprise you!

The city’s Parks & Recreation department also strives to entertain Naomi Richison
by bringing you such programs as the Summer Concert Series
and Dive-In Movies. Along with a newly-appointed Director, the Communications Director
city continues to improve the lifestyle of Deer Park residents. Deer Park Chamber of Commerce

There was an approving uproar from the crowd as we
recognized Deer Park Police Chief Greg Grigg as Lay-
man of the Year and Sherri Dial as Laywoman of the
Year, whom have each volunteered countless hours of
service and demonstrated boundless acts of kindness
within our community.

After receiving their recognition, various pastors and
local church leaders prayed over specific aspects of
our city, such as the schools and those suffering from
sickness or substance abuse. During breaks in prayer

ence with an absolutely delightful and uplifting perfor-
mance of praise and worship.

Sandberg said citizens will see continued progress in
some of the department’s larger projects including the
Deer Park Nature Preserve and the Dow Park Pavil-
ions.

Minimally Invasive Lung Cancer
Diagnosis and Staging Using EBUS-TBNA

Advanced technology from Olympus enables Dr. Muhammad Faisal to sample
suspicious lymph nodes in the chest cavity without surgery to stage lung cancer.

Lung cancer staging is the process of determining the extent of the cancer and how
far it has spread. Dr. Muhammad Faisal at Bayshore Medical Center is now capable
of performing nonsurgical lung cancer diagnosis and staging using the EBUS-TBNA
(endobronchial ultrasound transbronchial needle aspiration) system. EBUS-TBNA
enables real-time, ultrasound guided and minimally invasive sampling of lymph nodes
from the chest cavity. EBUS-TBNA technology provides visualization of the target
lymph node and the needle so that the physician can visually guide the needle in real-
time to the intended site to obtain the sample.

1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup nuts
1 cup chocolate chips
1 can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk

Preheat oven to 350°F. Melt margarine in a 9”x13”
pan. Layer bottom of pan with graham cracker
crumbs, followed by coconut, nuts, and chocolate
chips. Pour condensed milk evenly over top. Bake
for approximately 25 minutes. Allow to cool for 5
minutes before cutting into squares. Best served
