EPILOGUE

It's been a long day so far. I stepped into the building. I was taken back by my memories. It’s just a nice
cloudy day. Suddenly, I saw one child sitting on the bench while looking at the lake near the building. Her face
looks sad. With a careful step, I walk toward her. When I am around her I’ll try to approach her. I asked her
slowly “Hey kids! What are you doing here alone?”. With a deep voice, she replied to me” I’m waiting for my
mom to take me home. I want to run away from home because I made some mistakes with my father. So, I
feel scared to go home. I stayed here for a while and don’t worry my mom knows where I am and is ready to
pick me up”. Then she asked me "But who are you? I've never seen you around this part of town before”. She
asked passionately. I smiled at her and said, “I stayed in this area before I moved into a new house in
Langkawi”. She nodded her head as her mom came to pick her home. I waved my hand as goodbye to her. I
stood up quickly and got back to what I did before and the memories of my childhood got back to my mind.

CHAPTER 1

The story started when I was 11 years old at that time. My father owned a grocery store that are a
stone's throw away from my house. Because of his interest in business, my father opened a grocery store as
a second source of income to supplement his income as a teacher. Despite being tired from coming home from
school, every day at 3.00 p.m I will be at my father's store helping him manage the grocery store. It is a great
feeling to help him because I will get paid after I help him, so I can save up some money to purchase anything
I wanted. It was a pleasure to work with my father because it made us closer as a family.

Unfortunately, on 27th October 2014, I made a mistake when I was at the store with my younger sister.
I lost RM 50 that one of our customers had given us as he bought some items from our store. At that time, my
father was not there because he must attend a seminar in Kuala Lumpur. I was frightened because I had made
a pretty big mistake back then. My mind was racing and I didn't know what to do. Within seconds, my eyes
were filled with tears. In the process, I just hoped that my father wouldn't scold me. At the time, RM50 was a
large amount for me to replace with my own money. My younger sister comforts me. She also promises to help
+me replace the money together. We searched around our store but couldn't find that money. After some time,
my mother comes to close the store. My younger sister and I promised to keep the incident a secret until my
father returned from work.

CHAPTER 2

Several days later, my father returned home. It was so cool. All my siblings were overjoyed. We ate
dinner together at night and I was still thinking about the money I lost. On the next day, my father walked into
the store as usual to see what was in stock and where his money was. As usual, he asked me to accompany
him. As I was afraid to go there, I tried giving him many reasons to not accompany him. However, they were
all in vain. Finally, I arrived at the store. When my father was there, he asked me why the money was not
enough. In a nervous voice, I claim it wasn't my fault. I would like to blame the employees that my father hired.
A few moments later, my younger sister came to us and confessed that we lost that money. I tell my father
about the whole story. As well, I ask for forgiveness and have promised that I will replace the money as soon
as possible. His face changed. His smile slowly appeared and with a sweet voice, he said “You two are a good
daughter, to be honest when you make a mistake, I won't scold or punish you if you are honest with me”. My
father continued,” Take this RM50 as your reward for being honest, as well as keeping in mind that “No legacy
is as rich as honesty”.When my father said that I felt so relieved. His words meant so much to me. Later, I
promised myself that I would always maintain my honesty no matter what. Since then, the memory has become
my favourite childhood memory because it taught me how to be a good person and why I place honesty at the
top of my list of priorities in life. Our mistake is fine as long as we all learn from them. Believe in yourself and
don't be afraid to admit your mistake.
