INTRODUCTION

This campus terminal will combine the needs of students who come by
vehicle, or use e-hailing services or who use the UTM
hostel-campus-hostel bus service. This building will be equipped with
facilities and conducive safe waiting area.

Objective Students are requiring to design a new campus terminal
together with maximum of 3-storey IBS construction car parking building
(GF, 1F, 2F & Roof). This new UTMKL Campus Terminal must have a new
bus and e-hailing waiting area, car/e-hailing drop off and pickup area,
drivers’ lounge, convenient store, toilets and multi storey car parking
facilities as well as improving the existing bus waiting platform,
landscape and new location for the existing UTM’s official car covered
parking.

My main inspiration for this terminal is regarding the UTM’S 50th
anniversary logo. Therefore, the concept of my terminal is the Access.
This particular concept solves several issues. Besides, there are two
element that is the main highlight of the concept which are the ability to
move freely and people living together in more or less order. Therefore,
the terminal also consists an access in the middle of the two blocks as
well as universally designed spaces and approaches that represents the
concept.

Things regarding universal design, air-conditioning system, water supply
system, sewage system, electrical and telecommunication system and
fire safety requirements in the terminal will all be explained in this
following facility handbook.

CHAPTER 1

1.0 UNIVERSAL DESIGN

Universal design generally defines that the design of products and environments to
be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for
adaptation or specialized design. Therefore, users are able to reach to an extend
where they do not need to consider their their age, size, ability or disability.
Moreover, universal design is also known as craeating products, services and
environments that always meets peoples’ needs.

1.1 Parking

Figure1.1.1 GROUND FLOOR PLAN (PARKING)

The following diagram shows the parking space for the disable which achieves the
requirement of the terminal. Disabled parking is being designed in the terminal’s
parking is because to have extra spaces so that the disable user will be able to move
around conveniently and easily around that spot. Therefore, the disable parking spot
is placed right beside the entrance in order for the user to have a trouble free
situation in finding the entrance of the terminal.

The material that is used for the ramps are all reinforced concrete. Therefore, it
makes disable user to have an easy access to the building. Nevertheless, it minimizes
the risk of any injuries or accidents.

10

Figure1.2.4 RAMPS PERSPECTIVE

The following figure shows the ramp approaching the convenience store.

Figure1.2.5 RAMP LENGTH

Most buildings prefer to use a fixed, permanent cement wheelchair ramp or concrete
as the slope floor. However, permanent wheelchair ramps can only be installed where
the entrance to the house is fixed or where you are building a building with a
wheelchair.

11

1.3 Hydraulic lift with panaromic view

Figure1.3.1 HYDRAULIC LIFT

The following diagram shows the hydraulic lift used the the terminal. The main
purpose of this lift is to enable disable and normal users to transport themselves to
different floor levels in the terminal and parking block. Therefore, the lift also
provides sufficient comfort to the disabled ones by having the ergonomical railing
and the level buttons placed lower.

1.5 Counter

Figure1.5.1 COUNTER

The following diagram shows the counter that is designed in the
consideration of normal users and disabled users. Therefore, counter is
placed right at the entrance in order to give a welcoming entry to all
users approaching the terminal.
The counter is located at the ground floor of the terminal, where the
main purpose of it is the ticketing counter.

16

CHAPTER 2

2.0 AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

The air conditioning system is a system that is mainly used in cooling temperatures
in any type of spaces by removing the existing heat and moisture the room. Basically,
air conditioning system works in a way that it takes in the hot and humid air and
gives out cooling air.

2.1 Types of air-conditioning system

Figure2.1.1 AIR CONDITIONER

The type of air conditioning system used in this terminal is the packaged
air-conditioning system . This particular system works in a way that it
cools the surrounding air at the central location and distributed to all
spaces by one or more duct works and fans.

17

Figure2.1.2 AIR CONDITIONER PARTS DETAILING

Therefore, the packaged air-conditioning system is being placed in spaces such as
convenience store, waiting lounge and so on. Furthermore, this air-conditioning
system circulates cool air through the system of supply and return ducts. Therefore,
this system dehumidifies the air for the comfort of a space.

Figure2.1.3 WALL MOUNTED AIR CONDITIONER

The air conditioner is a wall mounted AC where it gives out a smooth finish without
any complication.

18

Figure2.1.4 PACKAGE CENTRALISED AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM

On the installation of the following system In the packaged air conditioner, the
outdoor case contains the outdoor heat exchanger, fan and compressor, and the inner
case contains the indoor heat exchanger and blower. In many split system air
conditioners, the internal cabinet may contain an internal coil for the furnace or heat
pump. This system is also known as an economical saver.

Therefore, in a package air conditioner, heat exchanger, compressors, fans and
blowers are all housed in cabinets, usually placed in a concrete slab next to the roof or
the foundation of the house.

CHAPTER 3

3.0 WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM

Water supply system, infrastructure for the collection, transmission, treatment,
storage and distribution of water for homes and other buildings, commercial
establishment, industry and so on. The main function of this water supply system is
to :-
-maintain the water quality
-supply water with power and sufficient pressure
-supply sufficient amount of water in case of emergencies

3.1Indirect water supply system

It is commonly used and most preferred water supply system in this
terminal. The process is initiated from rising the main of the particular
terminal and then seperated into two ways of supplying to the male
toilet and changing room and, female toilet and changing room.

Figure3.1.1 indirect water supply system

20

Figure3.1.2 water tank

The storage tank is placed at higher places so that the water comes down into
fixtures through gravity at sufficient pressure. The storage tank weighs 10000 gallon.
Therefore this water supply system contains reservation of water even when the
supply from the main is cut-off.

Furthermore, it also operates at a lower pressure and has a very low maintenance
economically.

Figure3.1.3 water supply system

21

3.2 Water harvesting system

Figure3.2.1 water harvesting diagram

In rainwater harvesting, the outflow of water is collected by structures or other
impermeable surfaces and stored for later use. Therefore, rain is collected from the
roof to the gutter and leading the water to the downspout and then to a type of storage
tank.

A rainwater harvesting system can be as simple as collecting rain in a rainwater tank,
or it can be as complex as collecting rainwater in a large tank to meet all the needs of
the household.

Figure3.2.2 water harvesting diagram

22

Figure3.2.3 water harvesting diagram (terminal )

The diagram above shows the water harvesting system in the terminal. Basically, it
flows from the built in gutter on the roof flowing down to the pond and once the
water is collected it then transmits to the underground for the water harvesting
system to occur.

23

CHAPTER 4

4.0 SEWERAGE SYSTEM

Sewerage system always be functioning in the underground. It is mainly for carrying
waste water and human waste away from houses and other buildings to a place
where it can be get rid off.

4.1 MANHOLE

Manholes are large holes in roads and paths covered with removable metal plates. Workers get off
through manholes when they want to inspect or clean drains.

Figur4.1.1 MANHOLE GF PLAN

The diagram above shows the manhole for the male, female and disable toilet. The
man hole is known as the opening to access the undergroung for any maintenance or
system upgrades.

24

4.2 SEPTIC TANK

Figur4.2.1 SEPTIC TANK DIAGRAM

-The septic tank has two chambers
-Solids from the incoming sewage settle by forming a sludge. There fore the fats will
be forming a scum layer on top.
-The discharge of the liquid in between the scum and sludge layers undergoes the

treatment process

Fire bucket
A fire bucket is a bucket filled with water or sand which is used to prevent or
extinguish fire

Fire extinguisher
A fire extinguisher, flame extinguisher or simply an extinguisher is and active
fire protection device

26

5.1FIRE ESCAPE

The figures below shows that the fire distance to the exit for individual rooms that do
not occupy more than 6 people, it is necessary to measure the distance from the
door of such a room unless the distance from any part of the room to the door of the
room is exceeded. 15 meters.

CHAPTER 6

6.0 ELECTRICAL & TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEM

It is also known as telecom, is the exchange of information over significant distances
by electronic means and refers to all types of voice, data and video transmission.

6.1 MSB ROOM

Figure.6.1.1 msb room

The MSB main switchboard is a fundamental element of the power system of any
social or industrial facility. The MSB is located in a room or closed part of a room
where electrical equipment is installed and accessible only to qualified service
personnel. It is located at the ground floor of the terminal.
Therefore its also has its functions such as the protection against electric shock in
case of accidental contact. Secondly, it is for the fire prevention when igniting wires.
Lastly, insulation protection against overloads and short circuits.

30

6.2 RISER

Figure.6.2.1 riser

The following diagram above shows the risers of the terminal which is located at the
ground floor of the terminal. An electric riser, or electric supply duct are spaces that
usually less obvious. Unlike the spare generator room and high voltage room, it
