 Making A Difference!

Teamwork Changes the Lives of Children

Two retired adults from different churches teamed up
to make an impact in the lives of students of Ruth
Fisher Elementary School in Tonapah.

Lloyd volunteers his time every week to listen to
children read and encourages them to succeed. He also
helps them with class projects and fun days. Leslie
volunteers to provide books for the children.

How do you learn to read if you have no books?

Leslie shops the Goodwill 50% sales to buy gently used
children’s books and 89 books were given at Christmas
break [plus a simple-to-read Nativity storybook was
purchased for each child] and 134 more given at the
end of the school year!

Lloyd’s testimony from May 2015:
“I am so proud of those kids. At the start of the year
some had a reading level of only 12 words per minute. One little girl was around 20 per
minute at the start but ended the year by reading 99-100 words per minute. Another
second grader could read but didn’t want to read any books but soon started reading and
ended the year with a total of 170 books that she took tests on and passed every test. I’m
very proud to state that all of the 1st and 2nd grade kids met the guidelines to advance to
the next grade. Great Teachers help Great Kids to Shine.”

Leslie shared, “I cannot go into the classroom, but I can give books. Lloyd and I make a
great team!”

Flying Standby

Thousands of people fly everyday
on commercial airplanes. They
arrive at the airport and present
their tickets for boarding.
The airlines sometimes sell more
tickets than the plane can hold and
the passenger is placed on standby.
I can relate to being placed on standby. I was going to be an electrical
engineer and I purchased tickets for the engineering plane. However, while
serving our country in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam, God had put
be on standby. The engineering plane was full and I was placed on another
plane. But this plane was God’s plane because God had called me into the
ministry.
Your pastor had other dreams and was getting ready to board that plane until
God had the flight full and he was placed on standby. And then God called
your pastor to board another plane which was to pastor and shepherd your
church.
October is Pastor Appreciation Month. What an excellent opportunity to
show appreciation to your pastor for getting on board God’s plane.

So that all may worship…

We are excited to see how God is raising up a ministry to those with special
needs right here at FBC Garden Lakes! Alan and Clarita VanMeter met with
Joni & Friends leaders Ms. Pam Baldwin (Director) and Ms. Cheryl Wilson
(Program Manager) for guidance with starting a special needs ministry.
Both Alan and Clarita have different special needs diagnosis and faithfully
serve the local church and community but know that God is calling them to
do more. Their heart is to help those with disabilities and to educate others
on how to minister and serve this often disregarded people group.

We are looking to build a 5 person ministry
team to help (1) explore the needs of our
church, (2) work with Joni & Friends to educate
and train, and (3) learn how we all can extend
the grace and love of Jesus to all peoples, so
that all may worship Him. Please pray about
joining our efforts as we seek to expand the

kingdom of God to all.

Churches can Scholarship Your Families at NO cost!
We congratulate Joni & Friends for their success as an approved organization for the AZ Tax
Credit! What does that mean for churches who have special needs families who want to go
to camp but have limited funds?
Pastors need to encourage people in the congregation, not just the special needs families,
to give now to the J&F Camp fund to be used by your special families. I have seen and
heard the results from individuals that have experienced camp; their lives will change
forever.

 Making A Difference!

My3:16 Dinner and Training - “One person can make a difference,” according to Dr.

Randy Adams and with the power of the Gospel of Christ Jesus. 117 people from 18
churches attended a dinner and training event at South Peoria Baptist Church to learn how
they can make a difference.

“In MY316 evangelism training, we teach you how to tell your salvation
story, and how to use John 3:16 to share the Gospel.”

We learned that by using the most widely known verse in Scripture and your personal story
of encountering Christ Jesus, we will be the effective witness the Lord has made us to be.
Each church received training materials, tracks, baptism invitation cards, prayer cards and
evangelism equipping materials to take back and implement in their communities.

The E.B.A. is putting together a implication packet, a nuts
and bolts for each church to effectively equip people to
evangelize in your community.

 Making A Difference!

Crossroads Christian Fellowship - New River, Arizona

Pastor Bryan Uebel came to Crossroads in 2014 and has been led by God to see this rural
church reach their community with the Gospel of Christ Jesus.

“God is doing great things here @ Crossroads Christian Fellowship of
New River, our church has seen a renewed sense of God’s presence and a

passion to seek the lost.

We have been growing and excited that our list of people desiring to get
baptized is increasing almost daily, we now have over 10 people seeking

baptism on October 16th.”

Using simple things like coins and water bottles may not seem effective but they carry an
invitation to a life changing experience.

The church gave away 150 water bottles at a yard sale and has partnerships with the Daisy
Mountain Fire Dept. and with their local elementary school.

The coins are another easy way to share Jesus and invite folks to come to church. Pastor
Bryan handed some coins to a drive-thru worker and invited her to come hear about Jesus.

IT IS ALL ABOUT JESUS!

Members of the Arizona SBC and other churches from across Phoenix
met to discuss Crossover 2017 (during the Southern Baptist
Convention next summer) and our partnership with Greg Laurie and
his Harvest America Crusade. The meeting showed the excitement
and commitment across denominations to reach Phoenix and
thousands more with the Gospel on Saturday, June 10 at the
University of Phoenix Stadium.

On March 6, 2016, Harvest America was held at AT&T Stadium in
Arlington, TX, with 82,000 people in attendance and another
180,000 watching from 7,000 host locations!

25,557 people made a profession of faith after hearing the Gospel of
Christ Jesus proclaimed.

SW Valley Homeless
Initiative

Our Goal: Host: Provide a place for 10 adults
to sleep, volunteers to
10 homeless men & women + monitor guests and a meal.

and clean blankets / towels.

Gateway Seminary

Gateway Seminary offers several Certificate and Diploma options for
people who want to increase their Bible knowledge and grow in their
ministry experience without the higher costs of being a full time
seminary student.

The Bible Teaching Certificate is available for those interested in Master’s level education
and for the lay person who wants to be more Bible proficient.

The GOALS of this Certification include:

• An increased knowledge of both the Old and New Testament

• An ability to study and interpret the Scriptures appropriately

• To be skilled with instruction methods that teach for transformation, not just
information!

The MASTERS level is 15 total credit hours = 2 1/2 years of study, 1 class per semester,
the cost per semester credit is $255, all hours are transferrable to a seminary Master’s
degree plan. Courses include: OT 1 & 2, NT 1 & 2, and Principles & Methods of Bible
Teaching.

The LAY level is 12 total credit hours = 2 years of study, 1 class per semester, the cost per
semester credit hour is $25 plus a fee for the instructor, courses do not require testing or
graduate level writing assignments. Courses include: OT, NT, Hermeneutics, Principles
& Methods of Bible Teaching.

Both options allow those completing to walk across the stage at graduation.

Brent Hale, the Youth Pastor @ FSBC Buckeye is heading up a West Valley Youth
event for the Spring of 2017. Disciple Now is more than another youth retreat, it is an
opportunity for your church to invest in the lives of the next generation of Christian
men and women.

D-Now consists of a large corporate service and small group meetings over a three day
/ night weekend. Guest speakers and artists will help attract but it is the truth of
God’s Word applied to their lives that will transform our youth.

The EBA has used copies of the three-
year 2012-15 Curriculum for the Gospel
Project for both Children and Preschool
age classes.

These can be used by
churches for FREE!

There is enough material for:
• Children: 2-3 classes of older, 2-3 classes of younger; with posters, CD's, and leader kits

• Preschool: 2 classes of each age 3yr through 5-K; with CD’s, leader kits, and supplies

Please notify Twila immediately if you would like to use these materials for your church; they
are undated so they can be started ANY time, (i.e, the beginning in January).

This is a wonderful opportunity for churches who love their children but have limited
resources to have high quality teaching materials.

An unsolicited promotion by a satisfied church…

At The Way Fellowship Church, we have been using The Gospel Project curriculum
for our elementary aged children's ministry and found it to be well suited to teaching
school aged children.  Our elementary age children's workers have also expressed a
desire to continue using this material in years to come.  

Two elements of The Gospel Project curriculum that are particularly beneficial:
(1)The material is aligned to teach the major stories of the bible over a three year

period.  It starts in Genesis and ends in Revelation, attempting to be as
comprehensive as is possible in three years.  This helps children to see an
overarching view of scripture and not simply stick to one portion of the Bible.  
(2)The Gospel Project points children toward Jesus no matter what the text of scripture.
 The authors are intentional about showing how Old Testament events and figures
foreshadow Christ.  
If you are searching for elementary aged teaching material,
I would recommend trying The Gospel Project.
