Future development areas for Murex Beirut
• Digital revolution under way in all services
(hotels, taxis, retail, etc.)
• Capital markets, investors and states (our
natural clients) will also undergo the same
transformations and will have to equip
themselves accordingly
• There is a need for an actor of this
transformation: we believe that Murex can
be a game changer in this industry, and can
do it out of Lebanon
Can Murex’s experience be repeated?
Yes. Software Ireland v/s Lebanon
Creativity & tradition (editing, printing,
advertising, movies, etc.)
Near-shoring v/s offshoring
Lebanon and the software industry
Industry where the only capital is human
Very good educational system (USJ, AUB, UL,…)
Loyalty
Creativity and tradition (publishing, communication, music,
advertising, movies, etc.)
“Near-shoring” v/s “offshoring”
But: Tax issues
Lebanon
Other areas with competitive advantage
• Any asset-light, brain-heavy and tech-heavy
activity with potential international impact:
Software is high on the list (B2B, B2C, such as gaming
for instance)
But tech-linked services too, such as communication,
consultancy, advertising, knowledge technology or
any service leveraging social media and targeted at
the Gulf
• Water resources
• High value added agriculture
• Biotechnologies
• Model: Ireland
What is a mineral?
• Minerals are the components of all the solid
matter that constitute the Earth’s crust and
its mantle
• About 5,000 minerals found so far on our
planet
• Minerals consist of crystals, which are
periodic arrays of atoms assuming perfect
geometric shapes and displaying a very wide
array of colors
• About 400 minerals provide beautiful
crystals
3 categories of minerals
Precious minerals
Industrial ore
Fluorite (200 Ma!)

Museography
Put emphasis:
• First on beauty of nature
(as for plants and
animals)
• Then on scientific,
historical & economical
aspects

punishment »
