UNIT 6
DIRECTIONS
Topic
Talking about Direction
Main Idea
Our world is currently narrower. People traveling between cities and
countries are with greater convenience. We can go places that we have
never been to because there are maps. It is important to know the
information of the place you are going to or if unable to read the map
clearly, you can ask the people in that location. Therefore, if we can get
information, we can give directions to tourists the accurate information in
order for them not to get lost and be impressed by coming to our country.

How to Get to the Grand Palace in Bangkok
The Grand Palace in Bangkok is located in the center of the city and is the
former of the Thai Kings, from King Rama I to King Rama V. These days, it’s where
royal ceremonies are held, and it also serves as the place to welcome guests of
the king.
One of the easiest ways to get to the Grand Palace is via the subway
system in Bangkok, known as the BTS. Take the Silom Line to Saphan Taksin
Station, also known as the s6 Station. Go out through Exit No. 2, and look for the
dock for the Chao Phraya Express Boat. The Chao Phraya Express Boat is not just
a way to get to the Grand Palace but also a fun experience all around, with
many stops along the way to see other places in the city. The boat takes several
routes, the “orange flag”, “green flag”, and “no flag” routes get you to the
Grand Palace. Whichever route you take, get off at stop No.9, which is the Tha
Chang Pier. From there, it’s a 5-to10—minute walk to the entrance of the Grand
Palace.
If you don’t want to take the BTS, then take a taxi, motorbike or tuk-tuk to
the Saphan Taksin Station or another pier to pick up a boat. There are pros and
cons to taking each one of these mode of transportation.
A taxi is more reliable, comfortable and air-conditioned, but the gridlock
traffic in Bangkok means it could take forever to get to your destination. A
motorbike can weave through traffic, but it can be scary experience for those
not used to it. Finally, a tuk-tuk is a fun way to get around in Thailand, but it’s
more of an experience rather than a practical means of transportation. This is
why the subway is the best option.
