There is an Eskimo sitting outside an igloo eating an ice
cream!

• The is used when we are specifically referring to a certain noun.
• The is also used when we talk about someone or something for

the second time.

Example

There is a goat in the square, and a key to the castle is
hanging from the goat’s neck.

• We also use the when there is only one such noun in the world.

• This and that are used for singular nouns.

away.
Example
