CREATE AND DELETE DOCUMENT LIBRARIES

CREATE A LIBRARY

a) Click on View All Site Content and Create; or Site
Actions – Create.

b) Select Document Library.
c) Give the library a name.
d) In the Description, insert the purpose of the

document library, what you are going to use it
for. Make it a robust description!
e) Display On The Quick Launch – Yes. It will be
placed on the Quick Launch for easy access.
f) Ignore Incoming Email and Document Template
for now. Click Create.

TIP…
 You can change any of these settings after the fact, except for Document Template.

g) All management of your Document Library is
done in Settings – Document Library Settings,
(intermediate and advanced courses).

NOTE…
 You ALWAYS put the Description in when creating

libraries and lists. The list gets very long very
quickly and you need to understand what each
library is for. This is good governance for
continuity and ease of use of your site. Look
under View All Site Content to see where the
Description makes a difference. Remember this
is your site map. Change this in Document
Library Settings – Title, Description and
Navigation.

DELETE A LIBRARY

a) Click on the library you wish to delete, then
Settings – Document Library Settings – Delete
This Document Library.

b) Confirm that this is what you want to do – the
library is deleted.

c) To restore the library, click on the Recycle Bin
from the Quick Launch.

d) Tick the white box next to the library you want to
restore and Restore Selection.

e) Confirm your actions.

NOTE…
 The restored library does not automatically go

back onto the Quick Launch. You need to re-link
it to the Quick Launch.

RELINK A LIBRARY TO THE QUICK LAUNCH
a) Click on View All Site Content to find the restored

library.
b) Click on Settings – Document Library Settings and

select Title, Description and Navigtion.
c) Change the settings under Quick Launch to Yes.
d) Click on the Home tab to get back to the landing

page, the library is now on the Quick Launch.

TIP…
 Note that the library is no longer in alphabetical

order. Re-order it in Site Actions – Site Settings –
Navigation / Quick Launch.
