The Framing Factor
With no specific topic, perhaps inadvertently Tom’s mind was
fidgeting with ideas of being trapped in childhood and futility
of life. All in all Tom wanted it to be colourful, even if just darkly
colourful. Tom’s collages tend to come from unconscious suburbs
rather than known streets, using only
images found in old books and
magazines. The collages can
be interpreted in any
way the viewer
chooses.

Annie took peer feedback post-it notes
from university projects and made
images that illustrated the low self-
esteem felt at the time - face, body,
bad skin. Annie used to care a lot about
what people thought (particularly where
it came to appearance) but the only
feedback that matters now is regarding
the things Annie makes. Embrace messy
and love ugly, because it makes us free.

Deviant Woman Marinna Benzon

She was all poem.
With overcomplicated metaphors, half-eaten similes,
sleep-talking stanzas a-top of a pile of linguistic symmetry.
Centuries of her ancestors wrote with the same quill,
The one that composed anointed Bible verses
and sketched out an all-American will.
Fallen words that lay in disarray
between sofa cushions, she duct tapes together.
Biting bottom lip, hair pulling, water-stained from some unlikely weather.
Tethered with her less dominant hand, tempted by greater fruit,
bruised by a ruined man.
Stand, she screams, as her arms spread wide.
The same arms that wrap another woman presented her more shame than pride.
Confide to a God, spoke in tongues on her knees.
Hands up, but her defects chant broken haikus in her sleep.
Just be.
She left her old corpse at her hometown’s main street.
Washed her hands in the River and cut her wrists out to bleed.
She seethes, clenching her jaw, manifesting into a one-woman allegory;
Dancing with fabricated fables and sleeping with half-written stories.
Her skin speaks in prose and her eyes sing in ballads.
Her feet stomp with beat poets and her mouth is an articulate maverick
The staple of her credo, stitched in her gums and teeth.
She is tired of being an anagram of he’s
So she embroidered a pride flag on her wrists, over her cuts
She inked her skin with the last drops of her Mother’s love.
She took her ancestors’ narratives and dyes it in her hair.
She framed her pussy on a pedestal in the middle of Town Square
Her chest exhales displaced sonnets and muted epigrams to the ears they reach
The curves of her declaration turned her body into a Figure of speech.
Ill-fitted oxymorons will claim that novels and stories, they wrote ‘em.
But women, women wrote verse because we are all poem.
A World Within Your Mind
Meditation is a little like
bathing the mind. Rid yourself
of the negative energy that
latches on daily. It is the
breath that clears the chakras
and releases the stream of
energy. If you focus hard
enough you may even slip into

hear yourself the loudest.
In this quiet, tranquil space
you are one with the part

A bar of sand, crisp and white, stretches far along the coast. Thomas Hancock
Waves lick at its edge. They’re in no rush, calmly rolling in and @dodotom9
out, in and out, infrequent and relaxed. They don’t care that a
party is going on. They just continue rolling.
Ignorant of the calm, the crowd is active and crazy. Bodies
writhe in time with a pulsing beat. Sand drifts this way and
that, kicked up by frantic feet. The song fades yet grows in
volume, effortlessly slipping into a new cadence. The dancers
roar their approval.
Behind them a violet mountain rises, bridging the gap
between sand and sky. Striations of colour streak up its surface,
culminating at the peak where a girl dances, smooth, elegant,
her hair swinging in counter-sway to the beat. The others look
up at her, their moves matching her rhythm. One, two, shimmy,
shake. A rabble made one by synchronicity.
Yet shadows stretch. The sun slowly slips behind the
mountain, and shade gradually spreads across the beach. As
cold sets in, the dancers begin to falter, and the crowd thins.
Those remaining look up to their leader. A silhouette against the
golden glow, she continues unperturbed with no loss of vigour.
A lone man approaches. He wearily ascends, each hop like a
leap in the low gravity. Stretching his arm out, he prepares to
tell her it’s over, and is blinded by a dazzling light. As one sun
falls, another rises. Its warmth washes over the sands, and
dancers flock back to the beach with cries of joy.
The girl catches the man’s eye, her lips curling into a
knowing smile, before flowing into a rapid succession of
movements. His weariness forgotten, in a single leap the
man rejoins his people, and the party begins anew.

This piece has a clear otherworldly
aesthetic, showcasing an interesting
juxtaposition between reality and fantasy.
“Painted Peach is dedicated to bringing a range
of top quality face and body art services to
events around Bristol and across the UK. With
international experience in body painting, face
art and special FX, we aim to bring fantasy
to life and create escapism by transforming
models and performers into characters,
creatures and anything in between.”
Many creative endeavours are a result of
collaboration. Body painters need models,
models need photographers, photographers
need printers, and the possible connections
go on. Some extraordinary humans manage
many of these steps alone but more often
than not we seek out other professionals
to help elevate our artwork and show it to
the world. Creatives should do their best to
support each other. Collaborative pieces are
not only an opportunity for a bit of fun but
offer a chance to learn from another artist
and expand your own artwork and practices.

We are all made of stardust. In a world full of darkness and
negativity everyone has the ability to bring colour into the
world; this is aptly demonstrated [left] by the harsh comparison
between the muted background and the vibrant galaxy created
inside their head. You are powerful, you need only remember it.
