Parks & Trails employees came to the P&T
Administrative office, 111 Opera Street, and
replaced the summer flowers with mums for
the fall and winter. We love the fresh new
look of the front of our building! Thanks
Guys!

Coleman Gocio, owner of the new Hot
Springs Bicycle Touring Company, 436
Broadway, stopped in to drop off some
business cards we requested and visited for
a bit. We are excited about this new
business because he will be renting bicycles
for use along the Hot Springs Creek Green-
way Trail. He shared that he is working on
eventually offering tours of the greenway and
downtown. Cost to rent a bike is $10 per
hour or $50 per day. You can also keep a
bike overnight for $70. Coleman and a
friend, Alexis, are pictured here on a bicycle
made for two!

The Hot Springs Civitans held a
fundraiser on Thursday, September
26, at the new Crystal Ridge
Distillery, 455 Broadway. All funds
for the event are to be used for the
David F. Watkins Memorial Tunnel
Park ADA playground.

There was a silent auction, BBQ
dinner, and wonderful entertainment
from Sylvia Stems!

The Civitans presented a check for
$10,000 to the City of Hot Springs
for use at the new park in June
2018 and they have been fundraising
toward a second $10,000 since! They are
over halfway there and we are so very
grateful to this group of community minded
individuals who work so well together! The
spirit of volunteerism is strong in the Park
Avenue area and they will soon see the
park, they have worked so hard for, under
construction again! A contract was recently
approved for Goslee Construction to
complete the next phase of work, funded by
an Arkansas Department of Parks and
Tourism Outdoor Recreation Grant.

To make a donation and help them reach
their goal, contact Angie Ezekiel at 501-544
-1255.

Ken Freeman, The Trail Guy

In last month’s Newsletter, the Trail Guy erroneously spoke
about the approaching fall season. Well, except for more
falling brown leaves, Sweatember showed little signs of fall
and the beginning days of Hotober may not be any cooler.
Now, I contend that there is fun to be had on our local trails
regardless of the temperatures, but I also must admit that the
prospect of a little change to fall weather has its appeal.
In spite of the temperatures, the Northwoods Trails have
continued to draw in visitors from adjoining areas like a fami-
ly from the Dallas area that were spending their Labor Day
holiday in Hot Springs. I couldn’t resist getting a photo of
them coming off of the Pumphouse Trail in the Northwoods
with teenage daughter and mom on their mountain bikes and
dad with a three year old on a trail-behind. What a great
way to get the whole family out together on a trail. Last
seen, they were at the Northwoods’ bike wash station and
the three year old had picked up the hose and was spraying
down the rest of his family.
While talking about someone having a good time, I need to address the good crowd that the Spa
Pacers’ run/walk clinic is drawing on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at Transportation Depot.
Debbie Rigsby climbed on top of her car to provide the group photo for us to use. The Hot
Springs Creek Greenway Trail gets a part of the group to use it at each session. Please spread
the word to families you know about the Tikes, Trikes, and Trails along with Take A Kid Mountain
Biking Day coming up on October 12th at Entergy Park. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and riding of-
ficially starts at 10:00 a.m. See the flyer in this Newsletter. Not only did I misspeak about fall
coming in Sweatember, I also said there was going to be a bicycle safety video on the City News
segment of the Channel 12 airings, but it got held up in production and should be aired this
month, although I’m not going to guarantee when, until I see it! Find a trail and a friend to share it
with this month and I hope to see you out there.
