Associate

Andrea Newton, Associate

There were many factors that contributed to
my fast progression at the firm. Having the
opportunity to work with both the firm’s
partners on major transactions and being
mentored by them has probably been the most
important part of my journey; not many law
firms in Cyprus, or even international firms,
will offer interactions of this extent with
partners to a trainee.

Being thrown into the deep end, getting
involved in cases from start to finish early on
and being in direct contact with some of the
firm’s biggest clients, even during my training
year, have certainly helped my development.
Due to the firm’s large clientele base, the work
is very varied; from simple agreements for the
sale or purchase of land to setting up corporate
structures for big real estate developments, I’m
constantly learning and evolving.

It’s evident that I was given the right tools and
opportunities from the firm but I believe that
the key to a fast and continuous progression is
how you use them. I tried to take it all in,
worked well under pressure, learned from each
wrong turn and always strove to be the best. I
think it’s important to never be complacent, to
set high goals and to never underestimate hard
work and dedication. If you love and are
passionate about what you do, the rest will
follow.

I joined Harris Kyriakides LLC four years ago
as a corporate administrator and soon I
started working with the Corporate financial
team, dealing with clients’ bookkeeping.

A few months later, after being provided with
the right coaching and mentoring, I was
transferred to the Accounting Department,
reporting directly to the Partners. Internal
transfers have always been considered as a
way to improve the firm’s departments’
efficiency and get the most out of its
employees. This is why I saw this decision of
the management as an opportunity to help
myself grow and couldn’t do anything but
grab it.

Having adapted to the firm’s culture and
being aligned with its short term and long
term objectives, I now lead the Accounting
department, trying to contribute as much as I
can to the firm’s growth. Thanks to the
continued support and the weapons I have

Having newly graduated from the University of
Cyprus, I found myself applying for a job at a law firm
with no working experience or any other advantage
over other candidates rather than my eagerness to
learn, be able to give back eventually and succeed.
Little did I know, I would have been given the
opportunity to transform into a professional woman,
enjoying a great career with challenges, achievements
and fulfillment; and all that within the same firm.

I had started out as a junior administrator and having
worked in various departments from litigation to
corporate, always being aware of the importance and
uniqueness of each role. Having undertaken each new
assignment with the same enthusiasm and sense of
responsibility, I was entrusted to develop abilities,
gain knowledge and get experience and expertise not
offered at any university.

I have been fortunate to be encouraged at all times to
pursue opportunities for personal and professional
growth. As such, I find myself today leading a
department and coordinating a team while supervising
another integral department of the firm, knowing at
the same time that there are no limits to my career and
professional path, giving me the incentive to continue
working with the same integrity, enthusiasm and
eagerness to succeed.

I started my career at Harris Kyriakides LLC as a Junior
Administrator in litigation departments.

Soon after I was given the opportunity to move to the
newly formed Corporate Department of the firm and
finding myself responsible for its organisation and
establishment. This was definitely an exciting and
challenging experience for me.

All these years, the firm has been fully encouraging and
supportive and I am daily given the opportunity to
develop new skills, gain and share knowledge and grow
both at a professional and personal level.

I have been encouraged to take initiatives, I have been
