FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
TWHBEA – Lewisburg, TN
RORY R. WILLIAMS
Executive Director|General Editor
Howdy folks. Fall is upon us here in Lewisburg, TN though you can hardly tell with the temperatures
still rising to the 80s most days and the grass as green now as it was in May. However, inside the
office activity is rising in preparedness for the Director election, the holidays, the annual meeting
(November 30-December 1, 2018) and January membership drive.
One would think that we’d had a banner year this year with as well as all else has been for the industry,
but memberships are way down. The number of memberships determine the number of directors there
are, for which states and regions have representation. It takes three consecutive years for an adult member
in good standing, owning at least one registered horse to be eligible for directorship (along with additional
qualifications found in the bylaws). And, one must be a member before August 1st of a given year to be
eligible to vote in the coming winter election if there is a poll for that state/ region.
Now, most people in the history of conducting business with TWHBEA become a member to conduct
business one year, like register a foal, and then they fall off a year while their mare is getting the next one
ready for foaling. And, most people don’t want or feel the need to run for a directorship. But they want to
vote and cannot if their membership lapses. And the benefits of being a member are growing again; just this
year we added yet another company selling farm equipment at ridiculous discounts (up to 28% off Massey
Ferguson tractors, if qualified) to TWHBEA members, among other more common places like OfficeMax
giving 10-15%. Don’t forget that with a multi-year membership, one receives a free foal registration each
year – that’s a huge bonus in the member’s favor.
Not every metric is negative though, like memberships. Registrations are, right now, above last year’s
numbers by more than 250 and Mares Bred coming in on the reports are well over 350 higher than last
years. Transfers are holding their own and coming in flat or just under 2017 rates, but expectations are
to meet budget and be positive Year-Over-Year by the end of the fiscal year. In three of our four metrics
{registrations, transfers, mares bred} we look positive and those positive numbers mean, statistically, a better
year next year. We are thinking positive and planning positively for that to be our reality. You all should be
very pleased in the up-turn of our industry, it bodes well for all. Rising Tides, et cetera. (NO, that isn’t “Roll
Tide” – we are football neutral here.) Keep training, trading, and breeding those beautiful Tennessee Walking
Horses. When they come out kicking, get those applications in here for registration and immediately increase
the foal’s value by hundreds of dollars.
Come see us in Lewisburg, we love new visitors and we’ll be happy to sit down and chat or put you to
work. There’s always something going on. Order your banquet tickets early with Ms. Rambo – November
30, 2018 is the awards banquet here, in our great hall, and the evening promises to be fun, filled with cheer
and an overall exciting evening.
We hope you enjoy this magazine, everyone, we work hard to get it just right and filled with good copy as
well as quality photos and advertisements for your equestrian or ranching needs. God Bless you all.

FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
from the president
David W. Williams
“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald
What a wonderful time Fall is! The new breeding season begins. Our knowledgeable
breeders are planning their next champions. The 2018 Celebration is on our rear-view
mirror and the many Fall showcases are taking place. I don’t believe there is a better
time of year than to enjoy a trail ride and see the beautiful Fall colors on your Tennessee Walking
Horse.
With our new first foaling date of September 1st, the Fall breeding season is well underway.
I wish our many breeders great success with their mares and their stallion choices. I love the
beautiful kaleidoscope of the many types of Tennessee Walking Horses our dedicated breeders
produce. From Tennessee Walking Horses of many unique colors, to the Athletic Show Horses,
to the Trusty and Faithful Utility/Trail Horses; each has an equal value in the spectrum of the
Tennessee Walking Horse.
What a WONDERFUL Celebration it was. My personal congratulations to my longtime
friend Mike Floyd the owner of the exciting Gen A’Mighty ridden by Master Showman Jimmy
McConnell. Gen A’Mighty was crowned the 2018 World Grand Champion Tennessee Walking
Horse. Many thanks to all connections with The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration
for their continued traditions and for hosting our TWHBEA National Futurity.
As the weather cools and the leaves change there are many riders heading to the woods and
trails not unlike those developers of our wonderful breed. First and foremost our horses are noted
’for their smooth gait, the “Glide Ride” as many call it. There is not a more comfortable horse to
ride nor a better time to ride, than on a Tennessee Walking Horse in the Fall.
For all of our TWHBEA members thank you for your continued support of YOUR association.
Again, it’s been my pleasure to serve as your president,
David W. Williams 8

Jimmy McConnell rode Gen A' Mighty to the Tennessee Walking Horse World Grand Championship
2018. The first Saturday night Gen A 'Mighty placed second in the A division of Stallions, Five Years and
Over. Then on the last Saturday night #852 was called and Jimmy and Gen would be crowned World
Grand Champion and proved that this was a "Mighty" good team!
Gen A' Mighty was foaled October 28, 2011. He was originally owned by Dr. Tommy Vinson and on a trip
to Abernathy Stables he was purchased by Mike Floyd of Columbia, Tennessee as a coming two-yearold.
Gen A' Mighty was the reserve 2 yr. old world champion and again his 3 yr. old year reserve world
champion. In 2016, Gen A' Mighty was moved to Formac Stables under the direction of Jimmy
McConnell. This proved to be the best decision every made for Gen. Jimmy has done an AMAZING JOB
with Gen and clearly the spotlight ride of a lifetime proved this on September 1, 2018. Gen A' Mighty is
one of only four horses to win from Maury County. Haynes Peacock won twice in 1940 and 1941.
Then Delight of Pride in 1986 and the Touch 1993.
Gen A' Mighty is on a very distinguished list of World Grand Champions.
