INTRODUCTION
A polymer is a large molecule, or macromolecule, composed of many repeated 01
subunits. A polymer is a compound consisting of long chain molecules, each
molecule made up of repeating unit connected together. Basically, plastics have
two categories of polymers : themorplastics and thermosets. Thermoplastics are
a family of plastics that can be melted when heated and hardened when cooled.
These characteristics, which lend the material its name, are reversible. That is, it
can be reheated, reshaped and frozen repeatedly. Thermosets are a family of
plastics that undergo a chemical change when heated, creating a three
dimensional network. After they are heated and formed these plastics cannot be
re- melted and reformed.

MATERIAL
In the subject of material technology
(VRT3013) 5 types of elements are intoduced
which is composite,polymer, ceramic,metal
an corrosion
From the discussion with the group
members, we agreed to further the topic
polymers by making a product that would
show the differences of thermosetting and
thermoplastic. We use epoxy resin for the
thermosetting where as shrink paper for the
thermoplastic
Epoxy resin and shrink paper are chosen on
several factor which is including the material
require low cost, easy to operate and at the
same time it can shows the differences

THERMOSETTINGS OF PRODUCTS
Epoxy Resin Craft THERMOPLASTIC
Epoxy resins are a two- Plastic Shrink Craft
component system
consisting of resin and Shrink plastic is a form
hardener. By mixing the of plastic that shrinks to
two components, a a fraction of its original
chemical reaction takes size when it is heated. It
place so that the liquid can be cut and shaped

CHALLENGES THROUGH
OUT THE PROCESS
EPOXY RESIN ACCESSORIES SHRINK PAPER PLASTIC ACCESSORIES
q Use rubber gloves when handling epoxy resin q The color on the surface becomes rough
and epoxy hardener because the chemical after bake and it is necessary to apply glue
properties of this material can be irritating and or exposes it with UV rays to make the
corrosive and it may cause a bit irritation on surface smooth
your skin.
q The color on the shrink paper becomes dull
q Mix the epoxy resins with the right ratio (1:1) after baked. Use marker paint to get more
of the epoxy resin and hardener or it will take beautiful results
longer time and difficult to harden
q Shrink paper get rolled when baked. Need
q The epoxy are very sticky and difficult to wash to compress with books to make the
out. Use vinegar to remove the excess epoxy surface become flat.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, Epoxy Resin and Shrink Paper are the
example for both product of Thermoset and Thermoplastic
respectively. Both type of polymers shows a significant
difference in their characteristics and end product . In
general, thermoset are usually use for wide range of
industries especially in automative, appliance, electrical,
lighting and energy markets due to excellent chemical and
thermal stability where are thermoplastic are widely used
for reusable plastic containers, diapers, ropes, carpets and
piping system.
